Changing race - a different approach?

I know its a tired subject, but i didnt’ find anything when i searched.

What about an Endless Tonic for each race?

Your characters gender and armor type would stay the same, but the rest would be random generation of features based on the racial tonic (such as Endless Charr Tonic, or Endless Human tonic). Like the Selfish/Selfless tonics, it would last until you zone, are part of a cutscene such as personal story or living story, or cancel it.
It would be way for players to change there racial skin without effecting their PS or any other racially dependent aspect of the game. Afterall, we do have Watchknight tonic. All that tonic effects it the character’s appearance and nothing else. You can even conduct normal combat while using the WK tonic.

Just a thought.

It’s a thought. But all tonics in the game so far change you to a standard model. The only difference they allow is your weapons. You can hold your own. Even if it allowed you to wear your own armor, you would still be wearing the face and be the gender of the tonic’s model. In a cosmetic based game, a very fundamental part of how you look would not be of your choosing.

I don’t understand why they don’t let just repick all your stories choices if is what is holding that back.

Do a store item only for lvls 80 and you must completed your personal story. Let choice you a new race and then a menu with the choices you did on the story. I have seen all the stories option chart and tbh it was not that huge…

I don’t understand why they don’t just copy paste your existing gear/traits/bags/items/map exploration whatever and delete the original character and fastforward your ‘ghost’ into the character creation tab, only allowed to pick the profession you had before. When character creation is completed you get everything back your old character had but that old character is deleted.

There still is the problem of the initial story line choices and a new race at character creation now being not chosen by a char that is out of character creation. Choices that had to be made before creation but aren’t, is bound to bring a host of bugs. (And if it’s copying gear, how about race restricted cultural armor on another race).

Maybe it’s all not as easy as we on the outside think.

I doubt this would be an acceptable solution for the vast majority of people who have requested race change.

Race is a largely cosmetic choice in this game with very little effect on gameplay. Which means most of the people asking for a race change will be ones who care about the aesthetics of their character and are therefore unlikely to be happy being restricted to one standardised model shared with everyone else using the tonic, or even a randomised appearance.

I know I’d rather delete and remake a character, or stick with a race I’ve changed my mind on, than sacrifice all other types of customisation to be able to have the race I want.

What part of deleting the character and being prompted into character creation do you not understand? You know character creation? The part where you have 10 stages of character creation?!!
What about cultural armor? if you changed race than obviously you can’t equip the cultural gear, have fun transmuting it again.

There are 2 possibilities:

  • the character code is so poor that any tinkering will break the game beyond repair.
  • Anet has people going full coocoo about race changes and has an abnormal sense of character identity.

Either way, there is a huge demand for race change to the point people won’t shy away from spending 2k gems for each race change and nothing is being done to this part of the market.
The entire point of race change is to play a different race without having to go through the agony of map completion again (and maybe the birthday).

Gosh. If it’s as easy as you say I wonder why they haven’t done it yet.

Maybe it’s because it’s not as easy as you make it out to be and there’s a bunch of bugs that spring up with it.
