Search for the fractal skins.
Why?
A chaos axe USED to be a status symbol aquired from the underworld, now it’s just a symbol of how much time you spent grinding a new character up for a BL key. Or how much money you spent on BL keys.
Is there going to be ANY future skins/loot that you acquire the good old fashioned way, rather than jumping through hoops? Doesn’t seem like it, and I’m getting pretty bored with this silly formulaic approach to new skins. Grinding for BL tickets via BL ticket scraps via BL keys makes running Underworld for a chaos axe seem like a treat.
You most certainly did not “eliminate the grind”… not if you want to keep up with items as they’re being released.
coughcough Torment Weapon skins coughcough
As you didn’t notice almost all new skins come via gem shop because obviously anet dont care about harder content for special reward.
They do care to release shiny weapon skins buyable with RNG based gem store items.
….or with lots of gold.

Because you can’t buy them on TP. Your search would yield nothing.
Additionally, you cannot buy Green or Yellow SAB skins. You can buy blue ones all day long, but very few people do I see running around with the yellow ones (which is why I love my yellow SAB staff).
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….

Those are only acquired by actually playing the fractals, you can’t buy it or do a gimmicky farm to get it. So you can only get it in the old-fashion way.
Oh there is also the Teq. and Triple Wurm skins.
But I agree that the game need more skins like that, where money isn’t the only requirement.

oooh I get you.
I just miss having a chaos axe on my gw1 mes, and I was excited for like a second to have a chaos weapon again, but then I saw “bl ticket” and then I saw the skin itself and I’m a little disappointed its not pure light like in gw1, but it’s still a pretty neato skin.
It is unfortunately the way of non-sub MMOs nowadays. They are either pay-to-win or pay-for-cosmetics. You can avoid one, but you won’t avoid them both.
I wish I could make a good argument for them doing things differently, but they gotta bring home the bacon somehow.
Well… there is still no forced, necesarry grind. You can get everything you need, without doing so. Now getting what you want… that is another issue and it is your choice if you want to work for it or not.
I agree though… seems like almost every new weapon set or armor is gemstore/tickets, which is a shame, because while you can still get that lovely skin it is more “hey lucky”, “did I really just spend money on this?” or “well this what I get gold for I guess” never that, “this shows that I acomplished something. Completed a part of the game, I really like this”.
It is perfectly alright for some skins being gained the way they are now, but would be nice to get more to earn like those we can get through dungeons or fractals.
I personally would rather just straight up buy the skin, cash/gems whatever you wanna call it, rather than spend the cash on gems to spend on keys to spend on chests to MAYBE get a ticket to buy the skin. Such a convoluted process. Ain’t nobody got time fo that!
Just buy the skin off the trading post if thats what you prefer.
You must be new to these forums? Every second post is complaining about RNG. People would rather buy them…

Speak for yourself. My chaos axe in GW1 didn’t get much attention, and it’s an OS perfect variant for a warrior (15^50, 20/20, +30) so I’d have a challenge just giving it away at merch value. It was not, for most of GW1’s lifespan, symbolic at all.
Reminds me of some of the FDS discussions that used to happen. It’s a nice sword but I never had deep sentimental attachment to it other than it looked awesome and for 9 years I couldn’t use it and then it finally is useful in GW2 because a FDS was trash in GW1 – that unchangeable fiery hilt wasn’t worth a kitten .
I’m glad they’re releasing GW1 skins in GW2. I’m glad that they aren’t a chore to obtain (any of the weapons that were a chore to obtain in GW1 either don’t exist in GW2 or are dirt cheap – see Froggy Scepter or Voltaic Spear).
If we’re going to complain about prestigious items in GW1 that were devalued in GW2, let’s look at the mini panda. Yeah, that’s something with substance.
Or maybe we won’t, because these complaints are just absurd.

Chaos axe was a symbol of what? Anyone could buy one. It’s not like they were soul bound. People used to sell them in LA and later on in Kamadan.

They were thus a status symbol of “I have money and need to spend it on something shiny”.

Seems to be the standard in F2P games. If a sub-fee game, replace ‘money’ with ‘time’.
Regardless, my mouth would indeed salivate at a ‘perfect’ req. 8 Chaos Axe, but I was just as happy to grab this bad boy.
Meh I don’t care. We got chaos skins, that makes me happy. Sure they look a bit plain and could have used better models, but the special effects are amazing in my opinion.
I think the best looking one out of all of them is the chaos axe, and I don’t even use axes, but it looks like a good example of the GW1 version (although the GW1 version was a bit more transparent and you could dye them, but nevertheless…)
I am with a lot of people here in this thread. What happened to playing content and an armor set or weapon representing specific activities? Besides the many backpieces of course. I am so tired of backpieces.

I suppose it’s from people saying they’d happily buy weapon skins if they were on the Trading Post.
ArenaNet went: “Challenge accepted.”
So . . . now you know.

I never understood why people wanted a req. 8 chaos axe other than the fact people would pay ridiculous amounts of money for something that was pointless. If you were using an axe build on warrior, you had 13-14 in axe mastery to begin with and caster axes never specced in axe mastery – they simply used them to look good and use the modifiers.
In general, I always found it strange that anything besides q7-8 on tactics shields went for any higher than a q9-12, feels extremely plush to the “rarity” of the drop that never justified amplifying the value of other “rare” items.
Again, though, it all just seems like a wild absurdity of what people thought vs. what was the reality.
