I realize for whatever reasons, people will think ill of this but I would still like a dev’s idea on the “character boost” feature WoW has developed and if the same function would ever be applied to GW2.

I expect users to attempt to speak for the devs and state cases against the idea of having such a feature though why would you try to speak for someone else in the first place?

As for why I would absolutely love for this to become a feature in GW2, I have one level 80. It’s a thief. And while other characters for each of the classes I’ve only been able to get them to levels 30-40. This is due to me having already leveled my 80 through all the zones. I’ve seen all that and now I’m told I must do it again if I want another level 80. And honestly I couldn’t care less about the personal story that unravels with my progression despite all the hard work the devs had put into it. If there’s any story I’m interested in it’ll be the one I build between my character and other user-played characters and not the personal story which has basically been predetermined. I’m long past the point where I can care about revisiting the same instanced regions with the same characters and story.

Now, for those who think I’m bashing here, I’m not. I can’t tell you how much I think of this wonderful game as well as it’s world and all the ambient assets within it, characters or surroundings. It just seems that GW2 (being the first MMO where I’ve gone the longest without a sense of grinding) needs a character boosting feature to stop the feeling I now have of grinding.

This feature is where I see the definitive cure for the feeling of grinding in any MMO coming from. Thoughts?

You don’t have any tomes, writs or scrolls saved up? I have the birthday scrolls and been doing PvP dailies, which give a tome a day, plus there are the 10 monthly from logging in. I plan to use those to get to level 80 in seconds.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

They already have this feature. It’s called scrolls of xp from diong dailies and tomes of xp from login rewards.

You can completely level characters to 80 without leaving the tutorial if you have a means of accessing your bank.

Any times I’ve ever gotten have gone to any one of my characters whenever I received one in the hopes of progressing that character just a bit more. Wanting profession for my characters had made me impatient enough to disallow enough tomes to be saved up as to have 80 tomes at a time. The most tomes I’ve collected was about 20.

The issue of the promise of tomes at the end of (in concept) a month’s time not being enough of a draw to log in every day is also a problem with me.

I want to play end-game content with a new character with new mechanics. I don’t want to only log in so I can get a chest 8 times over the course of 8 months so I can level a character to 80 and only THEN (at the end of said 8 months) be able to have a max-level character.

As for the scrolls, they only function to bring a character up to level 20.

Anyway, the point has been lost. WoW’s version of character boosting allows the user to pay real money to create a max-level character from to begin with OR to boost an already created character to max level in order to participate in end-game content.

This has also been proven to put a major dampener on illegally selling characters as well which has turned out to be a less than reliable way to get said max-level character as many players have found out in the past. Sometimes it’s worked, other times it hasn’t.

Again, my argument is that I’ve played through the various regions of the map as it is and while many different major world events happened such as the whole Scarlet Brier thing in Kessex and the attack on Lion’s Arch. I simply no longer feel the need to go through the same scenery again.

I think it will be difficult to level any alts if you have no desire to do anything in game more than once.

You might consider the different stories depending on race, order, etc. That there is more to the maps than the quickest way through. There are other modes of play. Etc., etc.

Good luck.

As to your question, ‘Will ANet have pay-to-be-level-80’? Probably not since they hand out so many tomes, if you do the PvP dailies, that people already can get enough tomes to get to level 80 in a few seconds. Anet probably considers that good enough. The main reason that WoW has it, as I understand it, is because each expansion adds 10 levels and is now at level 100. These additional levels discourage both new players and old and afaik that game doesn’t have any tome equivalents, so they sell a high level char instead.

As to your particular situation if you don’t want to PvP to get tomes, I’ve heard that leveling through EOTM is fast. Perhaps you could give that a try.

I’m surprised they haven’t made tomes of knowledge available for gems. Or some other version of it at least. $50 for insta 80.
