Here are some things that I think would be great to add to character customization; but before I get to that I’d like to say although we have an ever growing customization panel, with all the faces etc- no matter how you edit your character, you will look the same as the next person with the same face. You can increase the eyes, lower the nose to make a monstrosity but it’s still evident what face you’re using sadly.

Anyways, some ideas I have and have seen others share are:
-Two different color eye pigmentation
-Larger body types (there is a large female norn NPC and player characters cannot get that big sadly)
-More tattoos
-Make-up toggle? The red lipstick and smokey eye is very night-scene. Not only that there are some where you can really like the shading of the face but the makeup throws it off.
-Accessories color, more colors!
-Orange hair colors.
-More horns for charr & feline beast faces
-Two-toned glow options for sylvari
-Racially diverse hair for human/norn races – Take a look at nightfall; the hairstyles are on point to a fantasy-vabbian culture. what I mean by that is although some may not be accurate to a T, you can tell it’s meant to be African/Vabbi/Egyptian based. I’m sure there are still people in Tyria who stay strong to their roots and are clearly Elonian.
-Canthan hairstyles (Take the Gw1 hairstyles and clean them up for Gw2 right?)
-Loooooong hair for human male and female characters. Classier but still kitten female mohawks, More messy hair options for human male,
-Better beards. All of the human male beards look pasted on.
-More body markings for Asura
-More Asura based hairstyles
-Long hairstyles for Sylvari (There is also a Sylvari NPC with “branch” blossom hair we have yet to get, that would be a lovely addition to the female Sylvari)
-Mole/wart options
-Scars
-MERMAIDS (jk, but not jk)

So, these are just some ideas personally I’d like to see eventually. Hopefully. Fingers crossed. But, I doubt it. Not sure what you guys think.

^ The sad truth. Exactly why I’m forced to choose short hairstyles for my female characters in most MMOs, lol…

Another issue with more variance is you will increase load times for players as well as put more stress on servers. The more variance you have the more the servers have to keep track of, the more they have keep track of aesthetics the more slow down you’ll have on skills (such as skill lag in massive WvW fights).

Don’t get me wrong, I love diversity when it comes to looks but it also comes with a price. EvE Online is a prime example of this, the more variance of ship & paint types the harder the servers work & the slower the battles happen due to server lag.

Also a character customization possibility could be the personality system determining things like battle quotes and idle animations.

Character personality was modified with some NPC discussion options although there was an option in character creation too.

More ears for asura, more horns for charr, more beards for everyone. Older looking faces, specially for humans. Fatter and wider, thinner and leaner bodies. A chubby+busty body for human girls. New and better beards for everyone.

The option to dye hair accesories in the wardrobe.

A cure for the head-armor-induced baldness. A real bald hairstyle for human girls.

A voice pitch modulator (So my old cranky necro doesn’t sound like an enthusiastic teenager).

A variety of selectable idle, walking and running animations in the Gem Store.

But you do realize that this is Fashion Wars 2? I mean… 50%.

personality system would be awesome! tough, mysterious, merry, drunk, etc!
also, more regular clothes costumes and not overly fancy, like town clothes.
also, guyliner makeup for guys for our inner rocker/pirate fans XD
