Heya

I have two little suggestions here and the first would be to add an inspect character feature. No, no, no — nothing that shows gear slots like WoW or some other MMOs, just something that allows the player to open a window and visually inspect another character, no stats, achievements or anything else – just a visual of that char – In short, an inspect feature for COSMETIC purposes only. Many GW2 characters are so pretty and I believe that would just be an awesome feature instead of orbiting other players on foot… ESPECIALLY since I cannot zoom into 1st person (which is something else we should have, imo).

Second, and I feel this one is very important, players should be given the option to fill out an in-game profile for their character. If you are at all familiar with the WoW RP scene you may be familiar with an addon called “MRP.” What MRP does is allow the player to create a profile for their character with such information as character height, weight, age, nickname and you can even add a few paragraphs describing your character while providing a backstory. In WoW people often abuse this addon filling it with ERP, but I feel as if a report profile feature was added and it was an official Anet creation that had a report profile feature people would shy away from filling it with smut or other objectionable material.

What’s more is this does not have to necessarily be for RP. If you are looking for a guild, looking for friends, looking to PvP, looking to recruit for a guild or anything, you could just put it in your profile – right there in-game.

What this feature would do is give players a convenient tool that could be used to get to know each other, and furthermore an in-game character profile is a great ice breaker. Also, there is no official RP server in this game (which has been made worse considering Megaserver), and such a profile would allow RP’ers to easily hook up without relying on outside sites. Megaserver has scattered GW2 RP’ers into the wind! This could help bring us together.

It does not seem like either one of these features would be hard to add to the game, and ideally it would be totally optional.

I love the lore of this game, I love the community, and I believe this would be a great addition to bring the community closer together.

STO has (had?) a feature where you could add your own description or text about your captain/general/admiral. When you pulled up info on a player you had targeted, the default information about their profession, what class of ship they commanded, their rank, gender, and species were accompanied by this text. Many players used this space both to describe their character and/or background as well as to advertise guilds or grouping preferences for the end-game content and PvP.

So your mention of the MRP profile sounds similar, and that could be a fun way to further customize yourself.

You’ll probably be doing this after you’ve inspected them anyway…so why wait?
‘Asking’ promotes community interaction too (so a double plus there for communication!)

Just asking them is not the same as seeing the character in cosmetic inspection window where you can zoom and rotate the character, etc. Such a feature could well stimulate conversation; if you inspect and like their outfit, THEN you’re likely to open up conversation. Even if it didn’t it’s still a pretty nifty feature to add to the game, imo.

Also, that wouldn’t be a “headache” for many devs since most love what they do, especially in the gaming industry

I really like the idea of a character profile for the game. Be able to add description about your toon and get some general info on the character maybe only just the cosmetics. Regardless in PvP in spectator mode you can see all stats. I see guild wars not only as a MMORPG (Stats/Armor/pvp) but a social experience and being able to maybe add like a profile pic in my character description would be kinda cool for me of course it should be optional.

Another suggestion for the RP part (I’m slowly trying to get into it myself) Is to provide RP specific server areas. Every time you go into map area you could be prompted to join an RP version of it. It would be maintained separate from the other map servers and would help get all the RPers in the same version of the map. I would think this would also be a pretty easy implementation.

I think their might be a server of RPers already I’m not sure which one it is but I remember seeing something about it in general chat. Ill look around the interwebs and update my post if I find anything.

I love both these ideas. Sure someone can link you stuff but what if you’re the opposite gender? What if you want to get a closeup of their dye choices? (Side request — preview dyes from character panel dyes so we don’t have to search them out on the TP to get a preview on gear we don’t own yet).

Just last night some of my guild spent a while in RP with some friends not in the guild, and right away up came the topic about wanting some sort of descriptive MRP style thing to allow others to “see” visible things about the character without having to take time repeating it for new arrivals. Sure folks in my guild know my main has got a raspy voice now thanks to the Miasma and other lung assaults, but I still have to establish it every time I RP with someone new.

As to RP instances, ‘twould be loverly, but given the lack of response on giving us RP flags to shift us thusly megaserver-wise, I’d not hold breath. Otoh our RP last night was in Metrica and we twice got booted to fresh maps when the pop got too low, so certainly it was pretty much just us most of the time

There is, the Tarnished Coast, which is the de-facto RP server in GW2. However, with Megaservers the RP community has been somewhat scattered, sadly.
