If they are making everything shared between characters in your account are they going to do the same for bag slots?

They aren’t making everything shared. Masterwork and Exotic still soulbind, for example, and I’m perfectly fine with this. I’m also fine with determining which characters ‘need’ additional bag slots, and which don’t.

While account bound is nice, is can be pushed too far.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Well I am only bringing it up because now dyes, armor (skins), and weapons (skins) are account bound. So why not add bag slots to account? I understand that you can choose which character to add more and what to leave with less, but with a character for every class it would get costly to upgrade each toon.

GW2 is supposed to be cosmetically centric, so it makes sense for skins and dye to be account bound.

Bag slots aren’t cosmetic. Nor are they overly difficult to acquire. Beyond that, how much more of their revenue stream are you expecting Anet to give up? They are a business, and if they aren’t making money, they aren’t giving us new stuffs.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Honestly with the amount of user currently logged into GW2 plus the china addition. I do not think they’re hurting for capital at this moment. They can afford to make bag slots account bound.

Gee, I thought the game was dead according to many posts. Funny how the population of the game changes to suit the topic of the argument.

I’ve never purchased an additional bag slot. But, I have created a personal Guild Vault, and my whole account uses it…for free! That was nice of ArenaNet to allow us to do that at no charge, don’t you agree? =)

Bump, you’re looking at the short term picture.

Sure, right now they aren’t hurting for revenue. They are introducing the wardrobe and accound bound dyes in NA/EU. This should produce an increase in interest for purchasing the gem shop armors and weapons. Additionally, they are launching in China, which will produce a solid chunk of box sales. However, this only lasts for so long, and will taper off.

After people have bought their armors, their weapons, their boxes, Anet still needs solid items that people will typically purchase over the long haul. Character slots, bank tabs, individual character bags, transmute charges, mini packs, dye packs. There are all long term revenue options available to them.

That’s how business works. They have their long term, reliable sales items to bring in a consistent revenue (bags, bank and char slot to name a few). Then they have their sales items (ie, everyday in March promotion). And they have their ‘limited time feature’ item (jory’s axe / daggers, kasmeer’s staff).

I’ve never purchased an additional bag slot. But, I have created a personal Guild Vault, and my whole account uses it…for free! That was nice of ArenaNet to allow us to do that at no charge, don’t you agree? =)

I haven’t bought any, although I’ve thought about it for a couple of chars. My husband bought 1 for his ele, just so he could carry an extra invis bag.

shrug

To each their own…

Yes but if you can only deposit into said vault but not withdraw it is useless. Good option though Cedo.

Understood. Easy is usually a good thing, but I think in this instance it might be pushing the line a bit far. Just my 2c though.

I don’t really understand your post. Why would you not be able to withdraw from your own Guild Vault?

Not only did I get a lot of bank space free of charge, I also purchased several bank upgrades. I don’t think account-bound bag slots would be best for the game’s overall health, especially when we have alternatives…some even free. =)

He’s talking about being able to withdraw on the fly. With a guild bank you either need the Vault Transport upgrade or you have to go to the nearest guild bank access (which is generally in town). Vs bag slots which are always on you…

cedo multiple times I deposited into the guild vault and then when I tried to take something out the border would be red and not let me drop it into my inventory. So I do not put anything in there because I wont get it back. I think it has to do with the classification the guild leader gives each person. If you check the ranks the lowest one has the least amount of things you can do. Which is my case.

Ahh, ok. Well, do they still have permanent Banker Golems? Maybe that would be a solution, then.

And, hey! Whatever became of that Asuran Butler Golem? I was looking forward to that, but sadly, it never materialized. =(

Ah, well, I was referring to a Personal Guild Vault. You would have all permissions because you would be the Guild Leader. =)

I don’t know if they still have the perm banker golems or not. That might be a solution too.

I’d love to have bag slot unlocked account wide.

The wallet is account wide and so are additional bank tabs and material slot increases.

I’d actually buy bag slots if they were account wide.

No.

They would be giving up a significant revenue source by doing this.

I’m sure we all would like account bound bag slots, there is a balance between gameplay and monetization.

Slots bags should stay on a character basis yes. But i would love to be able to craft a bag (with Xunlai Electrum Ingot ?) which is shared accros all characters. Equip one of theses bags on each of your character and everything you put in it is available to all characters. That would be fantastic for unlimited gathering tools and infinite royal pass and so on. I’m sur many players who didn’t yet would start to buy this kind of items. For now they are account bound but you can’t really use them for all your characters.

This isn’t a bad idea. You have to buy the slot, but you can make a bag that is shared between chars… for all those darn things that you always forget to go back to the bank for..between char swaps.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

As someone with a lot of alts, I’ve bought a lot of bank extensions, but I flat-out refuse to buy soulbound bag slots. I would pay 3 times the price of a regular bag extension to get an account bound bag extension.

There’s really little use in buying additional bag slots for 1 or 2 or 3 of your characters when the remaining 8 alts won’t profit from it :/
