This is an issue that will not affect many people but the character slot limit is currently 64, I wondered if this is going to be changed in the new patch.
Incase you were wondering my current goal is 80 characters with one character for each class race and gender combo, 64 is a really strange number for char slot limit so its currently not worth me increasing the number of char slots I have past 40
I mean… ugh.
If you put it that way… Well sure… increase the cap.
But really?!!
Something to care about?!
Good lord. I’m surprised the cap is even that high, I mean how could anet reasonably assume anyone in their right mind would make that many characters? I thought I was bad having one of each class lol. Are you leveling all of those to 80?!
Honestly…. I wish there was no limit especially with all of the fun account stuff happening tomorrow….
Hi my name is Lilith and I’m an altoholic.
OP has no clue of how computers (digital) actually store numbers….
64 makes perfect since if you do.
Anyone that hits the limitation has spent enough gems with ANet to request a special compensation by ANet to go to 128 (the next BIT increase) (and possibly some therapy coupons….)

I understand this however you dont need to keep the limit like this anet could put a limit on at 40 which you know would make sense
._.
I’ve been playing since release, I only have 3 characters at 80 because it bores me to level the other 5 professions (slowly getting there)…
I salute your dedication… ._.

I just threw up in my mouth.
I currently have five 80’s and I can’t imagine leveling another; the grind to 80 is just so dull.
I doubt they will increase the space allocation to allow 80 characters per account.
What I recommend you to do is buy another account, that way you’ll be able to have 128 characters, you can even make 1 account only males and another females, you’ll have space for mule toons and so on.
EDIT: BTW guys, he said his goal to to have 1 toon of each class, race and gender, not level all of them to 80.

I was going to do this and have a second account however before anet changed their minds and said there was a limit they told me that there was no limit so I already have more than 40 characters

Good god. I have a friend with 18 chars and I thought that was ridiculous. But 40+, holy smokes.
It is fun making new chars though.
There’s a simple solution. If you want more than 64, get a second account.

I would like my legendary skin on all my characters + hom ect
Wow!! That is a whole lot of characters o.o I would eventually like to have three of each race (one per weight class) but the OP has a whole amount of dedication that I don’t. And I thought my husband was crazy for having 15 level 80 asura…..I can’t imagine doing that with more than 20 or so.
Good luck on your quest!
The reason for the 64 character limit is simple:
64 bits and each bit indicates an active character slot.
GW1 had 32 limit. OSs when GW1 released were primarily 32bit.

I hope you are joking…..(sarcasm does not translate to forum posts very well).
This does not need to turn into a binary math class, but your OS or computer processor address line capability is NOT related to this issue in the least.

He could be right though, although it would more likely that it’s just an array or something with a flag on each slot saying whether it’s occupied or not.

Very likely that he isn’t joking.
When an account is created a certain space is reserved in the Data Base and for the character slot info, Anet choose to only allocate 6 bits (2^6 = 64) as key to characters among the same account, if they added 1 more bit (2^7 = 128) would be 128 character per account and the HUGE majority of the players won’t use it so that space would be wasted.
