Mainly in PvP but also in PvE fast keybinds are very important and it’s very beneficial to bind your immunity or stunbreak to an quick-to-reach key, but here’s the problem: on mesmer it’s F4, on guardian it’s your elite skill, on elementalist it’s your utility skill etc. and this makes it impossible to make serious keybinds for multiple classes.
For example as a thief you only have to bind one class specific skill but when you decide to try out mesmer u realise u used all your good binds already and they have 3 more skills to bind. Constant keybind switching is really boring and discouraging playing different classes.

This would be even better if Anet would let us save keybinds for each build once they implement their build templates(if it hasn’t been cancelled).

I totally agree, I only play one character because I hate keybinding for other professions.

On my thief my number 1 is steal and my 2 is weapon swap. If I want to play an ele ideally I would change the elements to 1, 2, 3 and 4, since they don’t have weapon swap.

In wow every one of my characters would have very different keybinding setups, and that just doesn’t work in gw2 and it is too tedious for me to re keybind everything every time I want to play another character.

Get a gaming mouse/keyboard. That should allow you to make different keybinds with the hardware. You could even bind a key for changing your key binds. I was doing that for a while with my Razer stuff before I realized it would be better to just learn to play.

Get a gaming mouse/keyboard.

get yourself one with enough programmables macros and build a profile of macros for each class. Set a key combo to alternate profiles.

This is a huge problem and they really need to do something about this. The only thing that’s keeping me to only play one character is because of the constant changes to the keybinds.
People who’s saying that we should get a new keyboard/mouse with macros just so we can play the game smoothly… is it really worth spending triple the money on a keyboard/mouse than I spent on the actual game? The problem is really easy to fix, the most obvious solution would be to give every character their own keybinds.

ya so play toon A my heal is 6, toon B itll be H, toon C it’ll be U, toon 4 itll be 9. ya thats not confusing at all. The game already allows you reassign your keys. Try reassigning QWER to 7-10 Now EVERY key is right there asap. No keyboard/mouse needed.
no complaints about my stun break is here ALL THE time so now every class came be the same.

Lol, some people are obviously under the impression that you need special hardware to execute macros. Of course there are (free) software solutions for this, e.g. Autohotkey. So no @Hypzz you don’t need to buy anything, you can make macros and keymapping profiles for any ordinary keyboard/mouse. By request I could provide an example how to do it in Autohotkey.

However the problem of external profiles is the chat (or other input fields like mail or TP). It is hard for a macro script to know when you want to type in chat and therefore to temporary deactivate your profile. So for example you have weapon swap on E, but on your ele, your profile remaps this key to F1, then good luck using only words without E while chatting because you won’t have one. You could of course always manually de/re-acativating the profile, but thats painful imo.
This isn’t a problem however if your profiles only involve special keys like mouse buttons or ctrl, which don’t intefere with text input.

So for proper character/class specific profiles Anet has either to do it themselves or implement a interprocess interface such that external software know when to toggle profiles.

This probably one of my top two complaints about GW2. They FORCE skills into specific interface slots. IE, weapon skills can only ever be 1-5 and cannot be moved around. Class specific stuff (F1, F2, F4, etc) and such are also hard-coded per class. The only customization you can do really are the utility skills.

In just about EVERY other MMO, I have specific keys I use for specific things. For example, the “X” key is always my escape/interrupt/stunbreak type ability no matter which MMO i’m playing. My “E” key is usually my spam AOE style ability. My “mouse 4” is usually some for of instant single target attack.

In GW2 however, every single class is a clusterkitten of skills randomly placed in different slots with no way to control it outside of remapping keys for each individual class.

I pretty much only play one class because of this.

2nd biggest complaint is no way to save different builds and equipment sets. You have to completely swap gear for different builds PER class and they have no way to save these. You have to completely switch up talents/traits or whatever for every different build.

Dual spec, spec saving, auto spec switching, whatever you want to call it has become a standard feature in most games so not having it in this game is pretty sad. The closest they’ve come is unique PvP spec, though they’ve basically just handled that by reducing PvP to weapon, rune, and an single equipment item to provide all stats/spec.
