Character swaping in duingeon's !
That’s the bad way to do it. The nice people I’ve had do that would ask first, then help kill the boss with their 80 character, then while one of us watches the cinematic they switch out with their low-level and get the exp that way.
You could indicate at the start of the dungeon you could say you will kick anyone that does this if it bothers you so much. If only one person does it I don’t find it to be a big deal personally. Though yeah a bit annoying.
I only run dungeons with friends really… so we all know from the start if I or anybody else is swapping at endboss.
you do know you can vote kick people right ? thats why i run dungeons with at least 2 friends.
I always LFG with “No Swap” in the description and always kick anyone who tries.
Even then if I hadn’t put that in the LFG I would probably get annoyed enough to kick anyone who swapped unless they had been amazing through the rest of the dungeon.
I don’t mind if people ask but the whole expecting thing is rude.
while i agree that they should say that they will swap. i understand why they do it. since the game released dungeons where one of the prefered ways to fast lv, but now even the lowest dungeon (lv 35) as been turned into an unofficial lv 80 only dung by the community so i understand them doing this because is very hard to get their lowbie in anyway
i do not agree though with the “they arent helping and get all the benefits” comment since they “do” helped all the dungeon progress with their lv 80s, they are just swapping for the very last boss so their contribution to the party was 90%
now if they swap “during” the last boss i do totally agree with you, but if they swap “before it” and actually participate in the fight is another story, they are helping with it, and unless they are using extremely low quality gear for the dungeon lv (lv 10 or so gear on AC) they dmg difference vs a zerker geared 80 isnt that abysmal because of the scaling down.
long post short
1: they have the right to do it because nowadays is the only way to get the low lv dungeon exp for what it was made for; leveling. though i do agree that they should let know they are planing to do it
2: swap “before” the final boss and not “during” so they actually help in the fight and be atleast equally or higher geared than the dungeon lv
Dungeons aren’t so hard that you should have to worry about such things. If for some reason your group is having trouble beating the boss; tell them to switch back or get kicked. Simple.
Usually I see this done for CoF P1. I’ve had guys swap and be gone almost the entire fight and I never even noticed. Yeah it’d be polite if they made the group aware they are going to swap, but seriously if you can’t beat the last boss on P1 with only 4 players, then the guy who swapped out must’ve been carrying the rest of you. So I find the people who have a problem with this either (A) want a speedrun and are bothered by the loss of DPS or (B) need to l2p.
The ones that don’t ask are bit rude… Though you do make a good point, I actually don’t know what they would do if someone said “no”.
This post leads to the one glaring question… Should A-net re-balance scaling down? That way it wouldn’t be 80+ etc… If people could contribute equally on any character that was the appropriate level, the switch wouldn’t be as common.
It is rude and more. A good rule of thumb for determining if something is immoral is to ask what would happen if everyone did it. If everyone decided to swap without notice on the last boss then the outcome would be no net gain for the group, in fact a loss.
Inform your group or don’t do it.
On a side note it is funny when someone swaps without warning and we kill the boss before they can load in.

if anyone want to swap in dungeon, they should do it with their guildies. guildies normally would understand each other. pugs don’t.
Archeage = Farmville with PK
I appreciate all of the constructive well though out replies
I have told people I do not mind they swapping after the boss is killed in fact i have even offered to watch the cut scene while they swap ( That is more than fair right? ) . But they reply that they do not trust me to watch the cut scene ???
I guess i need to make some friends in game who are able to log in the same time that I do so as to avoid all of this PUG problems.
I just keep thinking there must me some way the Developers can fix this problem so that people will not be able to take advantage of others.
Do other MMORPG’s have these same issues ?
My two cents. First of all, why are we allowed to swap characters in dungeons? That’s the first time ever I’ve heard about this, in any game ever. The practice sounds a bit… strange.
Second, and this is by far more important: Whatever happened to decency and being polite? I admit this isn’t just character swapping I’m talking about, but it seems far too often that people think MMOs (and online-game in general) is an exception to the “be polite” rule. It’s often like they don’t realize or care that the other characters are real people. Why is it “ok” to be a total ****wad in an MMO towards other people? Short answer? It’s obviously not.
Over all the years I’ve played games, there is one simple thing I’ve learned: You’re only going to have fun if you allow yourself to have fun. Meaning you can whine and b*tch about the game all day long about the graphics, gameplay, bugs, glitches, other players etc, but that doesn’t help at all. If you rather allow yourself to have fun, you are going to have fun. Game buggy? No big deal. Just reload and carry on. Other players being jerks? Ignore them. Boss too hard? Level up, get better gear, practice or get others to help you (if the game supports co-op.)
And most importantly: If you treat other people nice, they will treat you nice. So if you keep doing stuff you’re not supposeds to do in dungeons, no one will play with you. If you keep doing what you are supposed to do and activly help the others, you are all going to have a great time, and you just might end up making long-term friends. Is leveling up a low-level character quickly so important that you are willing to risk looking like a complete looser to the entire server?

None that I play.
The funniest part of this issue happens when you actually tell them “no” after they ask and you end up being called an elitist jerk before they leave.
Makes you feel great about just wanting to finish dungeons quickly with everybody pulling their weight.

They already did that this patch.
Not exactly equal because that would be silly.
