Im so sick of the “comedy comments” from the human race (and others races aswell) like “eat my dust” or Ohhh that gotta hurt" etc. For the love of god, pls more or new voices, an option to change voices, whatever, just something! I even tried turned down the dialog volume but that effects all so…. ya thats kinda much.

Now, I havent read up all bout HoT or future updates so if I missed something then excuse me making this post.

When the chatter annoyed me I turned off the dialog. Haven’t been bothered by it since.

Honestly I like all of them except sylvari male (“huuuuuurgh! huurgh!” when jumping).

This has got to be the most annoying line in the game. More annoying than the belcher norn guy.

Playing only humans and asura… Hearing ‘I can outrun a centaur!’ constantly makes my ears bleed.

I changed my game audio to French years ago. I would never go back. It has improved the feel of this game to no end.

Problem solved (and a new one created).

One time someone in group used a skill right after getting attacked and he yelled “I’m bleeding for great justice!”

I don’t understand what you expect to get. Even if they bothered to add voices they would have the same one liners, just with a different voice. It seems that the writing itself is what you have a problem with, and that’s not going change for any reason.

Same here and the line that annoyed me the most was “Ahhh, refreshing” when female characters healed.

I deleted my Norn Female 80 Guardian because hearing “Might makes me right” made me hate the character so bad that playing it was annoying even with sound off just knowing they said it… They need an option to turn those sayings off without turning off all dialogue.

“Sweet, sweet loot!” uttered when I get a piece of crap I have little to no use for was among the reasons that drove me to plug in headphones (which disables speakers), and leave headphones hanging on spare monitor so I don’t hear anything.

True story: I used to have two human female characters, but the fact that they both had the exact same voice bothered me too much, so I rerolled one as sylvari. In fact I’ve determined that I CAN’T have two characters of the same race/gender combo, just for that reason.

judging from the voice actor lines present in the HoT beta there are new VA’s for the races. I’m hoping this means ambient/reactionary commentary will be getting re-recorded

Ahem. It would be nice if you could disable the dialogue for your character only.

As a whole I think the chatters are ok, but:

“Eat my dust!” <— Have to agree, wouldn’t miss this sentence!

“May Lyssa confound you” <— I want this back!!! cries

I mainly play male sylvari, in part because the voice and lines amuse me rather than annoying me.. Same with those overdone jump sounds.

I have never rolled female human or female sylvari specifically due to “I can outrun a centaur!” and “this rose has thorns!” I just can’t do it. And I have a female norn. I just.. can’t.

That is my fav quote from Sylvari, more so, since her name is a part of Rose, so it works well for her too.

Your problem is not a video game, and I wish people would not waste ArenaNet’s time with such issues when there are far more important things waiting.

But just to answer why this will never happen, there are thousands of lines that have to be recorded for each race and for each language. This grows exponentially, so if you have five races, two genders, four languages, and a dozen lines per character (which is very conservative really) its 5*2*4*12 = 480 total lines to record.

And that’s just a low-end estimate.. I imagine the actual number of voiceovers in the game (when counting random NPCs, PS, etc.) is in the hundreds of thousands.

They could give us new lines to unlock via the gem store. I made a post about it and wanting “Custom Shouts” a while back.

Activated voice commands that you could buy through the gem store – they would have a cool down so you can’t spam them and annoy people and would probably be pretty cool.

I would certainly spend money on them.

I quite like my Charr’s wit as he’s in combat. But I’m hoping they record a larger pool of phrases because I do admit the same phrase can be repeated in quick succession.

The asuran female when jumping is fun though. It is like she is trying to use her voice to give an added boost. Hmmph!

Dialogue annoying? That’s a personal problem. Can’t see how 2 years later, people still haven’t habitually tuned them out like a switch.

In my experience, this almost as natural as breathing. My attention will switch to dialogue like a dog ready to play fetch. If I’ve mentally recorded said dialogue so that only what I haven’t heard before interests me. Anything else goes through one ear and out the other. Then again I’m a pretty selective listener; at times, I’ve totally ignored people in teamspeak as result.

TLDR Turn off/on dialogue as needed. I don’t see this as worth Anet’s time in the near future.

Sooner or later you might learn the very important skill of selective hearing or how to tune out things that you just find repetitive and obnoxious, then you’ll no longer have to worry about what the characters say because you just won’t hear it anymore…or better yet, just listen to your own soundtrack that drowns out everything in game.

Nothing is more mad than having to listen to Faolain’s disturbing laugh everytime you just wanna get that TA path done. Seriously.

Yet another reason I love playing Asura. I can see me getting real tired of human voices (that dang centaur comment), but for the most part Asuran wit isn’t growing old for me any time soon. Female charr voices sound pretty good to. It’s not so much what they say, but the way they say it. Clear message not to screw with them.

Far as favorite voices from MMOs though, the laugh from female operatives in SW:toR is just perfect.

Not quite the same, but I love some of the cheesy ambient dialogue of NPCs – Divinity’s Reach and that guy who says “My job’s better than yours!”

The “I like pie” is my favorite npc line out of any npc line ever.
