Dear Anet,

Being able to only create 1 Charged Quartz crystal is a bit ridiculous. I understand that crafting the celestial gear is something that you want people to work for but at least let us make 3-5 a day. it’s already a challenge to get the quartz crystal itself due to lack of nodes.

The celestial armor for example is great set and would be used more often by people if they could experiment with it easier and figure out new builds. Also it is rather weird that the ascended Insignia is not account bound and the exotic is.

Ps: When can we expect jeweler and chef to go to 500 ?

That’s fine. At least it won’t take me a week to craft a single exotic piece.

I second this suggestion. I’d love to try celestial gear on some of my characters, but the time-gating is prohibitive to the point where I have no interest in pursuing it.

I second this suggestion. I’d love to try celestial gear on some of my characters, but the time-gating is prohibitive to the point where I have no interest in pursuing it.

For berserkers it’s less than 2g per piece of gear in vials of powerful blood,
Even if quartz prices didn’t rise it’s 12.5g per piece of gear in quartz.

Quartz prices will increase if time gate is removed. My guess is as much as 2x, maybe even 3x, the price of ecto.

first of all thank you for your feedback folks.

The price would increase and I believe you when you say 2x or even 3×.
To counter this big price influx, just increasing it to 3-5 charges a day would help then a complete removal of the time gate + what stops Anet of adding a couple of extra nodes in dry top for example or to increase the amount one nodes. Maybe even add it part of the reward for killing champs in Dry top. The price would not increase that much that way

There would certainly be an initial price spike as people who aren’t willing to wait for celestial gear would impatiently outbid each other. Afterward, the demand would temporarily (and slowly) drop until it reached a new equilibrium. It’s hard to say what the ‘final’ price would end up being; I doubt it would be more than double in the long run.

Currently, quartz represents about 50% of the 21 gold cost of Celestial Exotic insignia and about 20% of the ~12g cost of the Sinister equivalent. If quartz doubled, then would be paying 32 gold for Celestial and ~14.5 gold for Sinister.

Are those interested in a reduction of the time gate willing to pay those prices instead?

Yeah, I understand that. The fact is 5 days per piece is a much greater inconvenience to me than paying a bunch of gold or farming the mats myself. So have fun smacking your head, I guess? It isn’t changing my position.

I’d also be fine with this suggestion. Just so long as there is some reasonable alternative to charging 1 crystal yourself every day for a month just to create a set of exotic armor. It simply isn’t worth it and I expect that’s why so few players use celestial gear (aside from it being unsuitable for most builds).

Easy workaround: Charge quartz before you actually need it.. Then you will have plenty when you do.

What makes you think it’s that easy to “offset” — there’s no magic formula that predicts how the price will change if the time gate is nerfed. There’s no obvious number … or location… of nodes that will precisely offset a known increase in demand, since people tend only to farm out-of-the-way nodes when the price is high enough… and they’ll overfarm them if they aren’t out of the way.

And what’s to say that the increase in price is bad? For farmers, it’s great.


Another alternative would be to reduce the timegate with a new recipe using a “super-charged quartz crystal”. Celestial recipes would use a single SC Quartz (versus 5 charged quartz), but you’d need a stack of uncharged crystals (versus 125 for 5 regularly charged ones) to make one, i.e. double the quartz cost.

This gives people the choice: pay a steep premium for quartz to have their gear sooner or pay less and wait longer. That allows for the market to adjust to actual supply/demand

+1 for lifting the Charged Quartz embargo.

I’ve already crafted one full cele set, two weapons included, mostly before ascended mats became tradable. Now I’m working on upgrading two guilds. I’d be willing to pay outrageous amounts of gold to other players to avoid that additional time gate.

Nothing stops you of not buying them if they would be tradable or charge more then 1. The idea behind changing the timegate or trade/ untradable is so it because a bit more accessible to people.

While everyone has their own reason to get them, one very important aspect would that making it more accessible would motivate people to try new builds such as the celestial one. There are plenty of builds nobody has tried or bothers with because of the time it takes. ( full set takes +-2 months)

I will agree with you that the game lacks meaningful crafting

While it’s impossible to evaluate that bet, as all things will never be equal enough, it’s pretty clear from other things crafted materials that people are willing to pay huge premiums to avoid the time gates. Even jeweled dowels/patches earn a premium over ordinary ones, and those aren’t directly gated.

Still, it’s moot — all we can do is speculate about what might happen and try to address the consequences and whether we think those are important or not. Some people would love higher-priced quartz and tradeable charged quartz and some wouldn’t.

The complete funny about a thread like this is people complain that it takes a month to make a full set of armor and threaten to not make the set simply because of that. Do they actually believe anet will change it over night? So instead they keep playing (without charging quartz) and only after gate falls will they craft it. Then when they see each piece costing 30g in quartz they will make a post about how long it takes to farm the gold to make the full set.
