As someone who wasn’t able to get many decorations last year. I was really looking forward to adding all the holiday decorations to my guild’s hall this year. However when the holiday hit. I found that Charged Slivers and Glacial Fragments prices just skyrocketed in price.

I was curious if anyone else experienced the same frustration? I understand that this is inherit in the market model that I should have anticipated materials to skyrocket. But do you think Anet should at least give us an easier way to acquire the needed materials?

(Example: Perhaps being able to salvage charged cores/glacial cores/cores in general, for their sub components?)

This would help in the prices and the ability to acquire the proper materials needed. Since there doesn’t seem to be an actual “Good” way to get the item outside of the trading post. (Especially for Charged Slivers.) The only way to acquire Glacial Fragments is either through a low level alt opening bags and having a very rare chance to get it. Or farming certain ice elemental.

I’m hoping the price will go down eventually, but these make it very hard for my measly amount of in game savings to really put a dent in any decorations.

What do you guys think? Should we provide input on the ability to more easily acquire low level crafting materials if they’re going to be used in modern recipes?

I wouldn’t bother but there are other ways to get slivers and fragments. They are part of the map bonuses. For this week(ends on Thursday) it is Diessa Plateau for Charged Slivers and Iron Marches for Glacial Fragments. Just do events and you will rotate through the list of items from the map bonus.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Map_bonus_reward has more explanation of how map bonuses work as well as a chart of the current week’s rewards if you want to look at it that way instead of having to hover over each map.

Organize a guild group to run events on Diessa Plateau and/or Iron Marches and ask that your guild mates donate the slivers and fragments to the decoration drive.

Thanks for the ideas! I didn’t realize that Charged/Glacial were in those maps rotations.

I share the frustration and the map bonuses are unlikely to generate enough slivers for the decorations unless you solely grind them and nothing else, by which time most of Wintersday will be over.

Some of the scribing costs need rebalancing again so that festivals become less about grinding out enough materials and more about encouraging creatvitiy in decorating via making them more accessible.

Which is why you need to prioritize. Get the time limited stuff first and leave the rest for later … but I view all decorations equally I don’t care about seasons and festivals. Still need to acquire vast piles of snow.

I don’t think that is valid though. All Wintersday decorations should be acquired fairly easily through the festival. It should be about how creative you are with the decorating your Guild Hall, not money sinks or grinds or farms or economy balances or any of that – not when it comes to festivals. I personally don’t think it is the right approach to look at decorations being something to aim for next year rather than this.

The costs are not unreasonable when you consider that they are supposed to be gathered by 15+ players.
