Last night someone whispered me and it listed their account name rather than a character name. I’d never seen this before and was wondering why it happened. I get whispers all the time from people from different servers so that can’t be it. We aren’t in same guild either.

Probably whispered you while still on the character select screen. At that point, the user’s account name is known but no character name since a character wasn’t picked yet.

How do you whisper someone on the character select screen???

You cant whisper him in character select screen. That guy created a character and then he deleted that character… So you got account name…

We were both in the Not So Secret Jumping Puzzle area. We had been in a party together earlier but when this happened I’m not sure we still were. In any case, his character was standing right next to me. When I right clicked his icon and selected Whisper it listed an account name rather than character name. It was the same account that had whispered me moments before. That’s when I finally realized who it was that had whispered me.

I’d assume it’s a glitch, like when a party member shows on the map with their account name rather than character name.

Same way you whisper them in game. You can pull up your friends list on the character select screen too you know.

But where would you put the whisper? Does a chat box appear on the Character Select screen? I can’t say I’ve ever seen one….

Edit: Just tried it, and it is not possible to chat/whisper from the Character Select screen.

I should try that when I get home lol…

They may have been hidden/invisible. Thus, it didn’t give you a character name in the reply, because that was “hidden”. At least, I think that’s how it works.
