"Chill is ____ now!" thread
Looks more like a nerf? It says it now stacks to a max of 5 not that it now stacks in intensity.
It stacks duration up to five times, which is standard for conditions and probably a bugfix.
Not intensity.
just realizing this in game yeah definitely a reduction/nerf…dan i hope it works out with reapers if it stays this way..
Wow.
I seriously just the other day made a Necromancer build entirely focused on chill and now they’re nerfing it?
Greaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat.
they are aware how strong chill is, thats why its so rare. They did say that in reaper’s stream
May not be a good idea to spend lots if gold on any build right now since there are OBVIOUS bugs fixes and balancing that has to happen. Wait until everything is sorted out.
I know I’m a bit old fashioned. Back in Guild-Wars 1. Chill (from Water Elementalist) is fabulous… long chilling duration, very decent crowd control. Winter’s Embrace even act like tormented condition in Guild-Wars 2.
Nowadays in Guild-Wars 2…. Chill doesn’t even deal any damage, and the duration is very very short. (At least under Ele’s dispose) I keep on hearing Chill is strong, but does it comparable to bleeding? burning? tormented etc. It doesn’t even have any damage, and now Anet further nerf Chill. Spells/Sigils/Skills that inflict Chill all have longer recharge time.
In GW2, we have a lot of condi-remove! Plus a lot of leaping, dashing, movement buff, or spec to prevented slower movement condi etc. I really don’t see how Chill is OP at all. Anet buff every condition while nerf Chill? The intention is just bizarre.
I think the chill effects will stay the same queued length, I just think the DAMAGE of CHILLS could stack though… we’ll see when we see the reaper… terror and chills…
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.

The strength of chill isn’t anything to do with damage; it’s that it makes mobs barely move and any non auto attacks they use will be used 2/3s less due to the increased recharge time.
In PvP this is a killer.
In PvE, there’s a few places that having Chill is incredibly useful but overall, probably won’t even notice it that often.
In WvW, works great to split up zergs to isolate and kill.

Except with the mobility skill change they removed a large chunk of chill’s power.

Condi reaper in pve is doomed to fail at the moment through this patch. Necromancer bitter chill is nerfed with this trait. It will be felt easily.
It seems the developers, for some reason, suddenly hated necromancers. I got the strong feeling that after the rebalance necromancer become, in fact, the worst class in all aspects.
And now developers furiously hammer nails into the coffin of the poor necros…

I kinda wondered why they did this. I experienced chill from necros but it was never so game breaking that it needed to be changed what so ever. But this is just imo.
You do realize Chill gives the best boon when converted… right?
I think the devs realized that people actually wanted to play Reaper since it sounded fun. They made sure to squash that horrible nightmare before it got released.
Now they can just ignore reaper and nerf it occasionally like they do necro, to make sure it is the worst class in every game mode.
Look at the other chill nerf…necro related.
This nerf has nothing to do with the current game and everything to do with reaper when it is released.

It’s never been a “sudden” thing. Necromancer have been dumped on for a long, long time.
The blood magic change is the only good thing that’s happened to us since I started playing aside from the dagger cleave change which impacted multiple classes.

And what effect does that have ? How long can someone be chilled if it´s aplied every few seconds after the “Nerf” ? For me it doesn´t look like a large change just a bit more of a security cap.

If you apply chill every second that means the enemy would still be permanently chilled.
Is this actually working? i have yet to see chill stacking at all…
Also what’s up with necro’s trident #5 skill “Frozen Abyss” it says in the tooltip that it gives 7 stacks of chill but the cap is just 5 and right now it’s only giving 1???

The wording on the patch notes was just bad. they meant duration stacks, not intensity stacks.
Well, alacrity is considered a very powerful buff, that’s why there’s only a handful abilities granting access to it. Chill is basically a reversed-alacrity + cripple and there are quite many skills to give chill across many classes, quite powerful , wouldn’t you say? So I wouldn’t say this “nerf” is unjustified.
it means THEY got me for " neg criticism in clever disguise".
Know that it has been fun and I love ya all.
To many people were probably making necros without wells. So really the necros have no one to blame but themselves.

How is this nerfing Bitter Chill? Even if your target already has 5 stacks, applying further Chill will refresh a stack and you’ll still apply Vulnerability with Bitter Chill.

Yeah, that was a mistake I made. Did test it myself for another threat but forgot this one. I’m not sure about refreshing a stack though.
hate to join the complaining train but chilling Reaper is what i was looking forward to HoT for (already made an ascended GS for it), with these chill changes (even though it might turn out better than expected) it feels like Reaper (with its chill specific set of traits) is getting nerfed even before its released. Am glad i haven’t pre-ordered yet and will wait to see how its re-balanced before i spend my money.

And broke the design concept of the reaper. The idea was a horror movie monster that you can’t easily escape from (thanks to chill). This was balanced out by giving them slower but powerful attacks, so getting away from the Reaper was kinda the big idea. Now with mobility changes it becomes (conceivably) easier to disengage from a Reaper when the fight doesn’t look that good.
