Choir Bell Abuse - Reportable?
if you read the question he is reporting not a musitian, but a player that is deliberately spamming the same tone over and over, he also explains than when politely asked to stop he was being chased down by the player to be harassed with the bell.
also using time warp for double speed spam…
i don’t think he is complaining about some seconds or even minutes of bell spamming…
this imo is clearly reportable, i don’t care if you are 7 or 99 years old, someone have to teach you that you can’t bother people.
why should be the op to leave the place? he is not doing anything wrong. and just because npcs spam their lines doesn’t mean you can do the same and i am not talking about “for great justice” that is not really the same issue here.
do you want to learn to play the bell to impress ladies? probably the best way is not spamming in LA but in an istance or an area where you don’t bother anyone!

I think the concern is that GMs may not have a way to verify that bell spamming was happening. They might check the player’s chat logs, see nothing, and assume you were abusing the report feature.
Well, if the GM’s are dumb enough not to know where the report for the bell gets posted…. after all, they made the game, one would think they would know where to find the log for the bell.
Solution: Tell the person to STFU and mute the volume for a bit. He’ll get bored of mashing 11111111 and then eventually leave you alone.
So basically you’re reporting people for being annoying? Should I report this post for being annoying too?
Its a public place. If you dont like it you can go somewhere else. Same as real life.
That’s simply not ANet’s stance on spamming and exploitation. Nobody offers your argument as an approach to dealing with gold seller spam.
Maybe because its different circumstances? Imagine you in a park and a little boy starts ringing a bell. Are you going to insist that child be arrested? Now replace that person with someone selling stolen goods.
You have so many options. Being so petty as to insist that there is no other solution than the noise maker be punished shows that you are no better off.
Wow… I guess you don’t care that you hear dingdingdingdingdingdingding when you’re at the bank or crafting stations right? Just go to another bank or crafting station! EASY.
Ugh. They could limit the amount of rings you can do in a minute, that might be nice. because especially if they are using time warp, they are obviously there to spam and be annoying.
If you think this is “petty”, you are mistaken. It’s not real life, it’s a game, and there is NO reason to be spamming bells all over the place.
Uhm, just run away? Why are you making a big deal out of this, you’re not forced to stand near these “bell spammers”, like c’mon use your head. If they follow you just go to a different town.

Did he post hundreds of times in one minute? No.
Take your sarcasm elsewhere, smartbutt.

I love how the solution is to “run away”.
They made a big deal out of sales chat in local chat in GW1, because it was spammy and disruptive. This is no different.
They should never have made that stupid bell to begin with.
Playing your bell on auto is just their way of showing off their rare item. If you want to have people banned for showing off their bell, then you may as well have everyone that stands in city’s with their commander sign. If we’re going that far, you may as well have the people dancing around with their legendaries in towns banned. I see no difference except one is an audible flaunt which you can turn off by muting your sound or turning off SFX, and the other being a visual nuisance that you cannot turn off.
I know it’s an outreach, but really there is no difference.
This isn’t an exploit. It’s not breaking game mechanics. It’s only annoying to people who choose to continually stand next to that person without the sense to either hit mute or turn off the sfx in town.
It’s people like op that make me not want to play this game anymore….crying over such things.

Nobody is crying, we are stating facts, and if you want to quit over something like this, then good riddance. You’re actually the one Q_Qing. See you later.
If it’s not spam then why did they put a time limit on how often you can do /rank and /zrank in gw1? It’s the same thing, but with visual effects, instead of aural.

Well, you have your opinions and I have my own. And your opinions in what I stated means nothing to me

So you’re NOT quitting over people complaining about the bells then?
I never said I was. I clearly stated “It’s people like op that make me not want to play this game anymore….crying over such things.”
People that pick such stupid things to sit here and complain about and report about do make me want to leave. I’ve had many talks in game with GMs because of people like OP reporting me for unwarranted issues. It’s because of people like OP that innocent people ‘accidently’ have their accounts banned because of consistent reports against them. The in game support isn’t that great in this game, they may just see “Oh, this person has X amount of complaints and I have a busy day!” #BAN#
I know it happens in this game quite often. I’ve had friends that have been banned because of people like OP reporting for nothing, and it took them days to weeks to get back in because of the mistake.
So yes, it’s because of people like OP that make me want to quit this game.
repetative annoying sounds in GW is why I keep the sound off and Winamp on playing music I want to hear while playing on the computer!
I think if a person is clearly picking the most crowded areas of the game, like trading post or bank in L.A. or a world event and spams it there its pretty obvious the person is out to annoy and looking for attention.
Kinda reminds me of Aion the power shards spam turning off and on was annoying. I think the did temporary bans for it.
This sort of thing exists in real life, so I’m sure this is not that unreasonable a thread.

“no loud radios, $300 max. fine”
True, I don’t encounter it very often… but if someone is going out of their way to annoy people, discipline them like any other spammer if possible. Why is this ok while other spamming (like gold sellers) is just completely abhorred ?

I’ve played Aion from Closed Beta to a few montsh after it became F2P, and I’ve never heard of such a thing.

Neat, it f2p now? I’d like to see that game.
So, this has been happening increasingly since the Wintersday event ended, presumably as more and more Unbreakable Choir Bell users grow bored. Players stand around in Lion’s Arch and repeatedly spam the same note over and over. It’s incredibly obnoxious and there’s not really any way to block in, in the way chat spam can be blocked.
When this happens, I typically report the players abusing their bells for spamming. I suspect that these reports are disregarded, however, because the logical place to check for evidence of spamming infractions would be chat logs, not combat logs. This assertion is backed up by the fact that I’ve seen the same player spamming a choir bell in Lion’s Arch several times this week. The character this individual uses is a mesmer, and frequently uses Time Warp to exacerbate the spamming effect.
My question is, does ANet consider bell abuse to be reportable as an infraction? If not, is there a plan to implement a way to mute specific player’s attack sounds?
Ppl stand in lions arch and spam it?
turn of sound i options
or leave Lions arch… or move away from them
If this is legit then I wish to report Anet to Anet because of all the NPC’s in LA that just spam the same thing over and over. They were deliberately made to annoy people that’s why they repeat the same speech over and over….
Like “Creatures of metal and steel!” in the norn home city. Always makes me start running out of there.

Yes it is! That was chat this is just sound and if you run like 15 feet away so culling will kick in you won’t hear anything. I think, lol! I actually purchased one of these bells because of this thread, didn’t know they were tradable. :)

I personally think the solution is mocking the offender in local for a little bit.
Maybe they could make it so if you put someone on ignore, you don’t hear their vocalizations or see their output. No idea if this is even possible but it would be nice for more than just choir bells.
well. the feature that makes the most sense is having mute for character sounds or mute for sounds made from a muted person made scene. after reading some of this forum is that different people have different opinions on things and start pulling things from a game people don’t like you be striped down to a game were all you do is push a button and then someone is like that button is annoying! I actually like the bells I have seen other posts people wanting them to add other musical instruments. But the Ability to mute unwanted sounds is a valid point though. The Bells though was a good idea for no other reason you have some other pointless thing to do in the game just because you can. Even though it’s a game irl elements or things that make sense even come into play interactive background scenery, And well Mounts that’s another Forum topic

That player was probably the same one who liked drinking the Yeti tonic in Kamadan and then spamming /sit over and over so people’s audio channels would be flooded with sounds of Chewbacca getting a hernia. It’s annoying, but I hope that they don’t remove the Choir Bells altogether. There are some truly talented musicians out there who perform in cities, and I think it would be a great shame if they had to be silenced just to stop some immature kid.
I hate people sitting at the TP with those noisy insect pet things myself. But, just like the bell, assuming people aren’t cheating to ring it more than they should(And even then..), it’s ANET’s fault for putting it in rather than the players.
’Here’s a bell. Now don’t ring it or we’ll ban you.’ Turn your sound down and stop trying to fight jerks by being a bigger jerk.
No, it is not ban-able. I use my bell quite frequently in WvW.
So far almost all of SoS’s WvW community has me on ignore and reports me regularly. Though i warn them it is against the rules to falsely report a player.
It is quite entertaining to watch CoronBale accuse me of being a “spy” for jq, then sbi, and now currently BG. Claiming he has “friends” on those server that claim to know me from a large guild on whatever server im spying for that week.
ManlyMan owns all.
Between the NPCs in town and the warriors always spouting off about their “great justice” I have just learned to use my mute button while within cities. Although this may now be the best solution it does work.
I never understood those warriors that spammed for great justice… I’ll be using the bank sorting items and for 10minutes straight this 1 warrior kept spamming it
