Hello,

Recently I have been inundated with countless people using choir bells and other musical instruments. Unfortunately, these people have likened to spamming a single note on their musical instruments, creating a very annoying noise. I am fully aware that there is a ‘musical instrument slider’ in which this noise can be eliminated, but I feel that it is such a burden to have to do this. I also feel that if I am to eliminate all musical noise, I will be unable to hear those who are competent on their musical instruments.

I find that these people often follow certain people around, certainly to harass and cyber-bully. I think that it’s unfair that there is no block or report option that fully deals with such pests. The fact that people can get away with such acts is quite shameful.

Do other people feel this way too? Is it not irritating to be subject to such annoying people, and then be blamed for not lessening the noise they make? I suggest that the musical instruments be disabled or eradicated entirely in order to deal with this thoroughly annoying experience.

What does everyone else think about these annoying people?

I think if people find it annoying they should use the slider and turn it off…I mean that’s what the slider is there for.

But then you can’t hear anyone else play, plus it’s a bit annoying that you have to turn it down to begin with, right?

The slider was ANet’s compromise between the two. I agree that if someone is being trollish with their instrument, turn down the instrument slider or just turn off your speakers. If you don’t give any indication to the troll that their actions are bothering you, they will rapidly get bored and leave.

Any good musical instrument player also won’t be playing near a troll, so turning down the slider temporarily is unlikely to hurt your chances of hearing good music.

You could always turn the slider down so everyones’ instrument is muted and when you’re bored and in LA you can request that a talented player plays a song for you. Then go through the Asura gate to one of the semi abandoned racial towns to a quiet location and turn the slider back up and enjoy the concert. Don’t forget to give them am amazing tip. Some of those instruments cost them a lot of money.

This was an issue last year. The slider was introduced to help deal with it.

I reported several players last year for griefing and I know one of them got a few days to think about what they were doing. They came back after a break, started griefing again, I reminded them that reporting might result in a longer “vacation”. The annoyance stopped for a while as this person had a history of causing trouble. I believe they have since left the game.

For those objecting to reporting: this person stood in the bank in LA, constantly spamming a single annoying pitch (horn) with a lot of players in chat telling him to stop. This would happen for hours.

I also turned in feedback saying I believe that /block ought to also block musical instruments.

As others have said, the slider is your best bet. Unless you have screenshots where said player has indicated in chat that they enjoy griefing. In which case, feel free to contact support and provide the screenshot.

And yes, there are some very talented musicians out there. Particularly in light of the fact that the instruments do not cover all of the notes in an octave (sharps/flats).

Playing/practicing is one thing. Although I use my home instance for that, or dungeons with my guildmates, who often bring their musical instruments along. Using an instrument to spam one note to annoy other players… immature at best.

At least we have the slider option, last year we had no such convenience and LA was a mad house, then they introduced the musical instruments like the horn and things got really out of hand.

If you consider changing an option “a burden” i can’t imagine any reasonable solution would appease you.

As for your solution to disable or eradicate instruments entirely, i think you are offering incendiary compromises in order to ruffle feathers and get attention for your post…whats the word….oh yeah… i think you’re trolling.

What is this world coming to? Everybody gets fake outraged about petty childish things then compares the acts to things they have no business comparing them to. Cyber bullying? Harassment? Really?

Use the kitten slider. If they follow you around in-game report them.
