Greetings everyone, just to start the things off, I am not a relative “newbie” to GW2 (used to be a PvP-er only at the start) and recently came back to the game to find it enjoyable once again.

However, I have been poised with a difficult task, namely, choosing my main.

Mind you, prior to my return, I have had a level 50ish Guardian and Warrior and I was playing as a Conditionmancer (paired with Condition Ranger) in our tPvP setup, with over 90% win rate over the course of 70 games.

I have recently leveled a Necromancer to 80 and bought the expansion due to Reaper, however, here is my actual problem:

When I want to create a class I want to create the following:
- I want the versatility of an Engineer
- I want to be able to have the PvE faceroll of a Warrior
- I want to have an option to be complex as Elementalist/Engineer
- I want to have the durability of a Necromancer
- I want to be ranged DPS like Longbow Ranger

I understand “your personal preference is… personal”, “fun is subjective” type if arguments and I completely understand them. But I have started so many characters in the past 3-4 weeks that I am known to spend my Sundays in Character creation screen while browsing all possible forums/websites/wikis to give me a better glimpse of what I want to play.

I would not create such a dreadful or rather “corny” topic if I truly did not need help regarding this, regardless of how “subjective” the outcome might be, I am currently not in a position to determine the fun factor of it all, especially in the playstyle department.

Thank you in advance for any response provided.

You’ve only got 1 choice: Make an engineer, a warrior, an elementalist and a ranger.
No one force you to “main” anything… just play the class’s you want to play. and quit the amazingly limiting idea people have of “having a main”…

Edit: yes, I’m dead serious. make ascended gear for all of them. in time, get good at all of them. the game is no fun if you have to focus on only one class for 5.000 hours…
(>.> I DID NOT PLAY MY WARRIOR FOR 3K HOURS!! I WILL NEVER ADMIT IT!! ;P )

Just make all 9 classes, and play each of them depending on what you need at them moment.

If you need versatility, Elementalists are always a great option. They can be anything, just not all at the same time.

They can be High DPS
or extremely durable.
are as complex as you’d want it (From Staff ele to D/D ele)
as versatile as Engies
Can be spec’ed for Ranged DPS.

Just play engineer.

Because as a good friend once said and we both will echo it being engineer players.

Engineers can do everything, every other class is capable of with 10 extra button presses.

I would recommend you an Elementalist because:
-Very versatile
-Great dps for PvE
-Complex it is!
-Sustainability:This one depends on build while plain ele, on tempest tho there’s lots of ways to get it.
-Staff brings nice ranged dps, it is however AoE mostly.

My advice is the same as a couple above, make them all and play them as much or as little as you want at the time.
