My wife called me up this afternoon to say I had a card from the ArenaNet staff saying happy holidays, at first I thought it was a generic computer printed thing that everybody got, but this card is actually signed in various inks which is kinda cool. Pictures below.

Oh wow! they’ve been doing that since guildwars 1.
I have never gotten one but I have heard people talking about getting them during the guildwars 1 wintersday events and some of my friends in gw1 have gotten one.
they used to be numbered back then dont know if they still are.

They send them out to a randomly selected group [in the 4 digits] of people that are on their mailing list [I think it’s an opt-in-by-default list] every year, from what I’ve heard. Pretty awesome.

Wow! You’re so lucky! Usually they do this to very positive members of the community or wiki members that contribute a lot. Are you either of these?

Can’t say I am either, I’ve made 2 topics before this I believe both less than stellar I suppose. I also haven’t done any work with the Wiki site. If only my in game RNG was this good >.>

Anet has been doing this since GW1. You are on their mailing list when you register your account. Randomly, a few lucky people every year are chosen to get a card. And no, you dont have to do anything special for them to get one, its just a random shot in the dark whether your name gets chosen.

I suppose you have to be level 80 and have matching legendary gear to get one.

Studios usually only send this sort of thing to press outlets with hopes of getting a little page space. The amount of crap Kotaku gets every year is astounding. They usually let it pile up and then do give-aways or charity auctions some time in the year.

Things like this are why Anet is one of my favorite studios. …Now when is the first community design a weapon contest!?

I got one of these last year! It made my day! It probably made my week! I still have it sitting on my desk. Thanks ArenaNet!

I think it’s cool that they do this kind of stuff and is one of the reasons I definitely think Anet is an awesome studio Loving the game you build and the community you build it for is a great thing to see from a developer.

What an awesome gesture from Anet! I hope I get one! J/k. My year was made when I got selected to participate in the public closed beta. X-mas came early for me this year!

I think gw1 and gw2 first beta testers that buyed the game to play on beta need a real gift. compared to others new players.

Did you get a Black Lion Key?

These cards are from GW1 as others have stated along with other perk items given to select paying customers during the holidays, the same requirements anyway, you must have purchased something in their store in order to leave an address. This was discussed in a monsterous thread years ago.

So unless you buy gems with real money or they have it on file from GW1 you will not be getting an xmas card from Anet because they will not have access to your address. Just some fun facts they are picked randomly from paying customers, something the employee left out.

Of course they also may hand pick full positive fans based on posts and ask for addresses but that is just guessing on that part.

Nothing wrong with a business comping some paying clients.

Just a quick side note before it gets pasted, folks leaving real addresses during beta in the info, who does that.
