My friend just bought GW2 and made a character on one server > deleted character > made character on my server. Is he locked into my server for 7 days even if he deletes his only character or can we both delete all our characters on my server and make new characters on a different server immediately (and not wait 7 days for his timer)?

There is no way to circumvent the 7-day cool-down period.

Actually, Inculpatus, isn’t there a provision if you have deleted everything and started over?

I am truly curious.. I think I may have heard something about it once.

You can delete all your characters and transfer at no cost, but there is still a 7-day cool-down in effect.

The only way to bypass the lock is by contacting support, but they may only give the option to reverse the transfer, locking you to whatever server you were previously on.

Once you have transferred a 7 day lockout to another transfer starts. Even if you delete your characters again, it’s still in place.

Since you haven’t transferred yet, you can delete and transfer and he can guest as long as it’s within the same server group (NA or EU) but then he will lose all progress when he deletes when the lockout ends unless he pays for gems to transfer at this time.

I dont understand why would you delete your character to transfer… The only reason to trasnfer would be for WvW since you can guest all you want for pve.

That said, even your WvW server of choice, by the time you are 80 and fully equipped wont be the same. WvW come and go all the time.

One thing you can do so you don’t feel like you’re wasting too much time or progress while you wait is to play some PvP. When you go to the Heart of the Mists you are upleveled to 80 with free access to all the stats, weapons, traits, runes, sigils, etc. You can play around with max level builds and earn some skins for your PvP lockers. (anything in your PvP lockers and personal bank are kept intact when you delete your characters – as long as it’s not soulbound).

Another choice (a bit of a grind) is to farm Black Lion Chest Keys. You get one when you complete the level 10 personal story and there are some players that create and delete characters just for the keys. The keys are super rare drops later in the game and quite valuable – you can check youtube for guides on how to do it in like 20-30 mins.
