I have a warrior I love, an Engineer I cherish and a Guardian I’m training to kill everything. I’ve also been looking into the forums for the Thief and Mesmer to broaden my playable classes.

The differences in how the classes talk to themselves is quite impressive:
- Warriors like their high damage output, but wish to have more soul(combat tricks) to their class, even to the detriment of that damage.
-Guardians mostly bunker down and try to fine tune their abilities to survive combat until the enemy is dead, lamenting the lack of escape. And fearing the upcoming “boon hate” that was mentioned.
-Engineers tinker heavily, no one satisfied by the current traits or bugged skills, but refusing to leave the class they love so much. There is also much more “just get used to the class” and “Its’ supposed to be a difficult class” thrown around here.
-Mesmers seem pretty content. They can’t agree on how best to use their clones, but they’re generally happy.

And then I went to the Thieves section, and there was either annoyance about not being able to be perma-steathed anymore or calling the other half noobs for various reasons. I know every forum is full of grief, but here there were maybe two threads where there was true collaboration.

I’m not complaining, I just thought it was interesting how the classes seemed to attract specific types of people. It’s actually a nice way to decide if you’d like to play a class. Read their forum posts, if you like the people, you’ll probably like the class.

Interesting. I doubt there will ever be any hard science on the matter, but it’s fun to speculate! I think it is true that certain types of people can be attracted to certain professions in this game.
However, I’m not sure the forums are the best place to evaluate a class community. Take the thief forums, for instance: they are pretty volatile, but if you look through enough of them, you’ll see that many of the problems come from NON-thief players posting in the threads. This causes a lot of misinformation to float around, and in turn, the thief players get defensive.

“Premade”
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I find each forum area is like an island. And the hardcore players of that profession seem to be blind to the other sections.

Warriors constantly complain about not being viable in PvP, having no means of escapes and being crushed by certain profession builds, all the while other professions acknowledging that a Warrior can soundly crush them unless they are a bunker or keep them at bay.

Elementalists are content with PvE but perhaps grumpy that they feel daggers are the only viable weapon for damage. It’s generally the same in PvP but for different reasons and they even look forward to the changes in meta to make their other weapons more capable against other players. That said, they are actually self aware of how they fit within the professions, not being very damage oriented like a War or Thf, leaning on the supportive side like Guard.

Rangers are a conundrum I’ve been interested in so finally rolled one myself. Everyone knows that Rangers have a stigma in PvE and their answer to it is to perpetuate it. Pets die because they are weak and stupid, not because you left them in a situation to die. Spirits are weak because they die and have weak effects, not because they don’t understand how they are applied. Their perpetuate that stigma to PvP where it doesn’t seem true. Apparently, Rangers aren’t very good there despite having heard the opposite…and it all feels like it’s because their name is ‘Ranger’ so they should be viable at range and dismiss the utility of the pet….most of that is my opinion though, but in summary: they feel they aren’t in a good position in the game as a whole (even PvP) and choose to reaffirm that in hopes of getting a hotfix rather than trying to work with what they have now. This might be changing but I’m more an observer in that forum (and in Mesmer).

Thief, rogue, whatever its called in an mmo, it seams to attract a certain type of player, not exclusively, but a majority, probably the stealth/gank/run away mechanics.

I generally stay far away from class forums unless there is a specific question I need to get an answer to. To me if the mob dies and I am alive 9 times out of 10 I am happy. In most of the forums it seems if its dies in 36 seconds and should die in 30 seconds you or the class itself are a complete waste of space and should not play/be in the game. Also ‘time is money’ just reminds me of this http://www.hoornaert.net/?q=time-money
Edit: can’t get the hyperlink to work properly. Include /?=time-money to get to the cartoon
