If anyone has tried the mmorpg ffxiv:arr, you should know that there, you are able to swap classes (and combine skills in the classes, but that doesn’t fit gw2 so I’m not gonna bother talking about it).

To me atleast, being able to swap classes on one character and level them up individually would be perfect, I hate swapping around on characters, sending items through the bank etc etc etc, 24/7 when making new characters.

Maybe make it a possibility after reaching lv80 and finishing the story?

GW2 to me seems like a better game to add this than ffxiv:arr because the ability to gain exp outside of main story quests is much more in GW2 than in ffxiv:arr, so in ffxiv it turns in to a real hassle to level up a second class, while in GW2 it would not be an annoying thing, but rather enjoyable unlike in ffxiv:arr.

Anyone agree on this or?

Just thought bringing this out there, and if the community has interest it might be something Anet is able to implement into the game, maybe?

Just fantasizing is fun in itself:))

This gets asked for so often its like asking for mounts

It would be nice, but after three years i dont think it will happen, if it does ill be pleased though!

IMO mounts ruin a bit of the map exploration as it gives you more speed f.ex. if it’s just for cosmetics I don’t see any harm in implementing mounts, tho I don’t think everyone would be happy with just that ^^’

My point was the commonness of the question, not the opinions of either side. This gets asked for just as often as mounts, that was literally my point. If ANET wants to add mounts, they will. Ill be sad and leave, but its their game, if they think it will fit in the game they will add them. Just like this, if ANET thinks it will fit, then they will add it, but with how often it gets asked for, and hasnt been implemented, ill be surprise, and if anything it will be a gem store item(good way to make money here, i have two characters i want to swap classes, but keep the names, and armor, since they are both heavy that wouldnt be a problem.)

You also have to take into account armor weight. I suppose this could be limited too, a heavy armor character could only swap to another heavy armor class, but nobody likes limitations to such things.

I don’t see the problem with heavy armor characters being able to switch to light armors f.ex. just keep the character cosmetics, and have armors locked to one type of class, so being a heavy armor user, your armor is locked to that classes equipment, when you swap first time, you just get a new class with no equipment on, character looks just the same, with the same name etc, and then you can equip it, swap back and forth and what you had equipped to that class, is still equipped when you switch back to it, and when you swap to a new class again you have no equipments on that class again, I don’t care if this is frequently asked, I haven’t seen those threads thus far, which means it’s appearantly not frequent enough, your point is legit, but not the only point to be made:)

Do a quick google search, “GW2 Forums, Class swap.” Believe me its common xD

New thread hasnt been made in awhile(same with a mount thread, from what i can see, thank goodness~), and probably because its being suggested in the Gem Store item thread, and lets be honest, if this was to be added it would be a gem store item.

As i said though in the first post on this thread, id love to see this

The way GW2 has been run now, I doubt the gem store would make mounts purely gem based, however I do see them bringing in the coolest or most special skins in the gem store, however I like how GW2 makes the best items in the game just extremely time consuming in forms of farming etc

Class swapping topic, not mounts.

Imo i see no reason to have a full class changer, but does not mean that other would not use it.
We would see players flipping to the class that Anet elects “as most effective” most of the time.

I doubt we’ll see any sort of profession changing capability (beyond Specializations), akin to the FFXI and FFXIV MMO games. Now, I loved that about those two games (second to their crafting systems), but by this point in GW2’s existence, I guess it doesn’t really make sense to push for such a change, as most of the player base have an alt for everything already—plus, let’s face it, this is a business decision, and a sound one at that when we are not required to pay a subscription fee. Alts equals character slots sold. They rightfully wants us to buy more slots in order to have a character for each profession, if not more. There’s nothing wrong with that.

There are perks to alts as well mind you, with how Birthday gifts (such as year 3) gives you certain things that may be worth getting more than once (e.g., a Select-a-Dye™ consumable—more alts, more rare dyes to select from). And with so much of our equipment and items being Account Bound, with an easily accessible Account Bank, moving things from one character to another is not all too much of a hassle.

I think the system works as-is. And from a business standpoint, since we do not pay a subscription fee, I do not see it being the smarter thing to do. GW2 is a business that I want to see thrive. If that means I have to buy some character slots, by all means, I will.

Nope. If something like this was implemented I’d want a bunch of refunds, which I don’t think Anet would like. It would also reduce, if not totally eradicate the need for people to buy more character slots, reducing Anet’s income – which is definitely something that they are NOT going to do.

That’s what I’m thinking, there are perks with having alts, but also I find it a hassle to create a new character, go through the same story over and over and over again. and most won’t need that extra character slot to still be able to use their most wanted classes.

And if marketting is a problem because of character slots, make it so you can swap one class on a character, if you want to swap more, you need to purchase character class swaps or make it so you have to purchase if even for one class swap.

Which solves the whole refund problem aswell, because it’s basically still just the same thing.

I atleast feel like GW2 is a game where this possibility fits in:o

Sorry, but I just don’t. It’s been 3 years since release and this has been something that has been suggested time and time again. If it wasn’t implemented at release or shortly thereafter then I seriously doubt that it’d be implemented any time in the future. Plus there are many other things that devs could be spending their time on to actually improve the game instead of changes like this.

The fact it would eat into character slot money pretty much tells me its never going to happen, though I’d far prefer it to having multiple characters in general.
As far as I’m concerned, I have a main, and even if they release a class/specialization I like more, I’m stuck with what I’ve got now. I would like for her to have access to everything since its the only character I’ll ever really bother with (the others only exist for unlocks that require them currently), but I know that won’t happen.
Makes me actually hope they never release another class or specialization that does anything I really like since the other classes becoming more enjoyable is actually just a negative for me as things are. :-/

A change like this would be an improvement in my case, and seeing how it’s been mentioned so many times, I guess many would see this as actually improving the game, and even if they haven’t done it already, doesn’t mean it wouldn’t fit in. f.ex. Being able to swap to mesmer before a jumping puzzle, swap into your guardian tank because your team needs that more than your dps warrior.

It’s atleast things I’d like to see in GW2 along with all the others who have mentioned this time and time again, good point against it here is the character slots that gives anet an income, but there are ways to work around that to keep the satisfaction of currently bought character slots up and maintain the income.

But you do not need to go through the story, if you don’t want to. You can make a new character, ignore the story completely, and do whatever you please to hit Lv.80. You can equip them, still ignoring the story entirely whilst doing so. And you can continue to play the alt(s), again, ignoring the story. If you don’t like to be reminded that it’s not completed by having it tracking in the top right corner, take a look in the Options. They got you covered.

What you’re proposing with a single profession change, makes little sense to me truth be told. If anything, this would need to be a Gem Store only thing, you pay or you don’t get it. In the venue of name changing tickets and makeover kits. If you can swap a profession on a character for free, they already lost a potential character slot sale. For that matter, we can convert Gold to Gems. They have provided us with means of keeping the game completely free beyond the initial purchase (F2P players can’t do this, so they still need the initial purchase to have this option). I’m all for them adding a Gem Store option for changing up the profession however. By all means, there’s nothing wrong in that either. I just don’t see it being financially sound to provide it once for free. And while I like freebies, I do understand the game needs revenue, again, because we don’t need to pay any subscriptions. The FF games has their subscriptions coming in from every player, every month. GW2 has players buying into the game, and potentially spending money in the Gem Store. Many converts Gold to Gems, which is of no value to ArenaNet, financially. Now they have Free to Play players as well (—welcome!), who may never spend a single penny on the game.

Keep in mind that you can level up without running around in PvE too. You can level up from Tomes, sPvP, World vs. World, crafting, and so on forth. You have multiple ways of gaining higher levels within the game.

And all the people who have put in all the effort to level and gear all those characters to actually swap to them for times that they are needed will be getting screwed over as well. I can swap to my <x> for <y> because I geared and leveled it. Not because I bought a thing that lets me change the profession. A lot of people would be angry about that, and I don’t blame them – I’d be one of them.

Multiple ascended armor sets? Yeah the ones who have crafted these will be screwed over too if this happens. I’m assuming you’re thinking that the stats on the armor will just change without having to change the actual armor itself. There’s another group of people that will be angry, and again I’d be right there with them.

You don’t realise it, but your suggestion would screw over many more people than you’d think.

So say it’s a gem item, it’s something I’d still happily purchase because it would really contribute to my affection towards this mmo in particular, I’m happy to spend money as long as it is something that would make my experience greater, I don’t see it being too much work altering the game this way, for something that would have so many potential buyers, right now the gem store is rather bland atm (IMO anyways) and has so to say nothing I’d be willing to spend money on, especially not over and over again, this class change opportunity, if they make it a gem store only thing, It’s something I know atleast I would gladly pay for over and over again.

Certainly creating a new character isn’t a hassle for many, but it also is for many.
This option would be a new possible income for them.
For those who won’t bother spending money on character slots.

I understand there are many arguements against this, but there are also many arguements for it, and just qouting an earlier reply “Do a quick google search, “GW2 Forums, Class swap.” Believe me its common xD” I know there are potential buyers of this class swap system.

Alts have their own benefits + Some people prefer new characters, some don’t<me included.

Adding this option just plays to everyones tastes, and would still add to just another thing they get sales on, which I am pretty sure Anet would not be against.

This isn’t the case with people who have at least one character of every class, like myself. I don’t switch to classes because they’re good. I switch to different classes because I’m in the mood to play a certain way at a certain time. The thing about GW2 is that there isn’t a “superior” or “most effective” class.

What’s the point of having alts then…………….

Right, because race doesn’t play a factor in having alts either. Oh wait, it sometimes does!

This system wouldn’t disallow people from making alts, it would just allow characters to swap its class.

making alts should have more incentives than just different looks imo. Many people make more characters because they want to play the other classes, sure the looks are a great bonus but ultimately it’s mostly about the class.

I doubt a system like this would ever be implemented though.
Having to level more characters = more playtime = more potential gem purchases = more $$$ for anet.

In FF14, you still have to level every class. Unfortunately, there are barely enough quests to level up a single class. The other classes are leveled thru FATE (like Dynamic Events) grinding. You also have to carry all the extra gear.
