Most boring PvE profession to me is the warrior, because I feel like I’m not doing anything to kill stuff. Sure it’s easy but yeah…not all that interesting.

But the question is tough because different professions are better or worse in different areas of the game. Like I don’t use my engie in open world PvE anymore (much anyway) but I used him often in PvP.

I tend not to use my ranger in dungeons, but I love him in open world PvE. I hear they’re really good in PvP now too, with a spirit build.

I like my necro for the rare times I’m farming. Different professions for different purposes.

Out of Thief, Guard, Mesmer, Warrior, and Necro:

I find the Necro to be the most fun. Their mobility is low, but watching the conditions fly and applying so many of them is a ton of fun. Fear is fun to play with, and the ability to debilitate all the enemies around you is nice for groups. There are some disadvantages, such as being useless in a group with a second necro due to poorly executed condition limitations, the low mobility makes running away impossible, and condition specs just do overall less dmg then some other classes and direct damage specs. But once you realize in the end those things don’t matter much since you can beat everything anyway, I found it the most fun.

Warrior I found probably the most boring but only because it is so ridiculously OP that there isn’t much to it. You run up to the mob hit 1 button and it almost instantly dies every time. It’s easy, you have no chance of ever dying, you do 5x more dmg then all the other classes combined, but you also fall asleep at the keyboard in my experience. I play the game to have fun so ultimately I shelved my warrior until the day they finally decide to balance them for PvE.

Most boring in PvE is warrior. Buy berserker gear, lay face on keyboard, profit.

Least boring is Ele or Mesmer, because you have to put in that much more effort for reward. (Ele far more so than mesmer.)

Most fun, for me, is Ranger, despite the stupid pet mechanic, and the (intentionally) lower damage coefficients.

For me the most interesting professions are the Elementalist and Thief. This is due to how integrated their class mechanics are with the way to perform in combat. Something about them just sets them apart for me, I feel like it’s related to skill availability. It’s very different for these two professions and I’m sure the engineer would interest me as well, since it’s very different too.

The least intersting professions to me are the Guardian and Mesmer. This is exclusively due to their lack of mobility and the extensive amount of time it takes to explore Tyria. Once you’ve seen it on one or two professions you’ve seen it on them all. I just want to get to the challenging content after the wonder and awe of a new zone has worn off.

I haven’t spent much time with the Engineer, Ranger, Warrior or Necromancer, so I can’t comment on them.

Most boring:
Necro, Guardian.

Both are ridiculously OP at their niche, to the point that it negatively effects the game for the other classes (similar to thief stealth), and being OP is “not fun.” Despite being good, both lack build variety, which is also “not fun.” Both also lack mobility, and mobility “is fun.”

Least Boring:
Ranger, Elementalist.

Neither are OP (at least for today). I fell for GW2 the first time I played with ranger’s sword, THAT is how combat skills should be, fun with interesting movement. Ranger has tons of viable specs and every weapon was interesting to use (until shortbow was shortend), even if spirits and pets are the ABSOLUTE WORST implementation of pets/totems in any game since… ever. The fun, mobile weapon skills carry the class.

Ele’s get a nod for sheer number of weapon skills at one time without being horribly implemented like Engineers, and just enough mobility to reach minimum levels of enjoyment. Unfortunately, lack of real ranged DPS weapons and almost no viable spec diversity limits the long term enjoyment of the class.

I’d say that warriors are the most boring and elementalists are the least boring.
Warriors don’t have a challenge, I find it to be such an utter joke that they have the highest base health and armor AND DPS ability in the game, but they’re all around kitten iness in pvp makes up for it.

I honestly love elementalist, I only wish I wasn’t pressured to go 30 into arcane and 20 in water in order to survive, since fresh air builds with 30 in air but only 10 in arcane put out great DPS, but struggle do to less water/earth swap uptime and boonduration. Lightning Hammer Builds often with 20 or 30 in fire are also very viable but somewhat fragile PvE specs that can put out crazy sustained damage.

It’s very common in MMO for the most popular classes to also be the most simple to use. For instance, WoW and Paladins (who have oddly enough gotten LESS popular as they’ve gotten more involved gameplay wise). Or perhaps more relatable, W/Mo from GW1.

The simplest most brain dead classes are always the most popular.

I’d actually like to play my warrior – especially when I play one of the other more complex classes and take about 3 times longer to actually kill things compared to a warrior that uses 2 skills and kills way faster then say an Elementalist who swaps Attunements 6 times in the process – being somewhat of a min/maxer it hurts my brain to play a class that is more complex and slower then the simple mindless hack&slash of a warrior. But the warrior is just soooo boring…

Basically it reeks of simply dismal class- and/or game design. By making this big thing of not wanting a decent and well-tested class system (trinity based classes) in their game they now have a totally broken and even more restrictive and unappealing class system. What’s the point if every class can do everything when in reality they all suck completely compared to the DPS-output and farming capability of the simplest of all classes?

Complexity should be rewarded, not punished… again… really wonderful game design right there.

lol nice post but don’t write that on in the warrior section, you’ll get told to stop lying and bunch of warriors will justify their class is very complex and requires lots of skill

Not exactly. It’s just that warrior doesn’t have much else going for it. Take away our damage and what do we have left? High health and extremely lackluster support skills. Woo.

I agree that warrior is not exactly the most involved class to play but if they take away our damage they’re going to have to rework the entire class from the ground up.

If you think Warrior’s boring, you’re not playing it right.

I’m guessing all those saying it’s boring are running greatsword on their warriors.
Me, I run a build that relies on quick weapon swapping to use a burst skill every 5 seconds, and I use hammer and longbow.
Not quite as quick at killing things as the standard cookie-cutter GS zerker build, but insanely fun. Massive amounts of might from comboing Earthshaker and Arcing Arrow into Combustive Shot, lots and LOTS of CC, and constant keyboard dancing as I squeeze skills in between the bursts. It’s as active as my Mesmer playstyle.

I think all professions have the potential to be boring or fun.
It all depends on how you build them, and quite a lot of the time whether you decide to fully incorporate the profession mechanics.

Using the above as an example, the GS Zerker Warrior takes no advantage of the profession mechanics. Ideally, you’ll never use a burst skill while zerking, as it’ll reduce your damage, and you’ll only ever switch weapon when you need to get out of melee range to recuperate. So really, you’re not doing much more than auto-attacking and following a set rotation.

My build however relies on all the Warrior’s core mechanics, and leverages them to their greatest degree. It generates adrenaline quickly in order to allow regular use of burst skills and I’m constantly swapping weapons thanks to reductions in weapon swap time, another core Warrior mechanic. It’s not as easy or efficient as playing Zerker, but it’s a boatload more fun.

Similarly, you can build a Phantasm Zerker Mesmer, and as soon as you’ve got them all out, it’s just a case of following a rotation.

But if you build around the idea that you’ll regularly be shattering illusions, you’ll quickly start using all of the different types of shatter and traiting to make them more effective. And again, it’s a more involved playstyle as you’re constantly looking to generate illusions. That’s before you take into consideration reflects, bouncing attacks, etc.
Myself (and a lot of Mesmers out there), I generate a lot of my illusions through dodging, and as I prefer the double-tap to dodge playstyle, again my fingers dance across the keyboard when I’m in the zone.

So the key to making any profession interesting is to really look at their core profession mechanics and try utilising them as best you can. Don’t just rely on 1-5 and your utility skills. Really leverage those F key skills and build around mechanics that define the class rather than going for pure damage.

Pure damage is more efficient, sure.

But let me put it this way:
Efficiency is considered a virtue amongst accountants. When did you ever meet a fun accountant?

Please note that due to restrictions placed on my account, I am only allowed 1 post per hour.
Therefore I may take some time replying to you.

I think this design was fully intentional. The classes are all fairly effiecient and can do just as well as others when worked TO THEIR LIMIT. The warrior is a easy limit to hit, elem is as hard limit to hit. They are allowing playstyles for both players that like simple gameplay, and those who like much more involved.

The issue is, they can’t allow one to outpace the other just because its simpler. Then there would be no reason to play it. So yes, you do have to work harder than a Warrior as pretty much any class, but you aren’t necessarily worse.

Though yes, I will say GS could use a small bit of a nerf. Not a big one, its power is way overstated.

This is somewhat analogous to the question, what musical instrument, the guitar or piano, is hardest to play? Well, most people will say guitar as you’ll be playing something that sounds like music much sooner than on the piano. True as far as it goes, but I’ve noticed that to play any musical instrument (including a blade of grass) at the virtuoso level takes an equal amount of practice, gifting, commitment, whatever.

It’s similar here. To play a warrior at the highest level possible is not boring. You will constantly be on the edge of your seat. Most of these discussions devolve to the lowest common denominator and pronounce X profession boring. Calling any profession boring just shows that you are not approaching it in the manner required to make it art. So, why not make it art.

I’ve also noted that Warriors have the strongest tendency to defend their class.

A lot of people with high level warriors call it boring. A lot of players who play the class often in PvP call it boring. They give many concrete reasons why it’s boring, while those defending tend to give rather vague reasons while ignoring those put forth by others. Often going “Well you just play 100b, so thats why you call it boring” which is a fallacy, you’re just attacking the person rather than the argument.

It’s ok to admit that Warrior is rather base. It’s utilities are the most basic in the game. It’s weapons skills are rather cookie cutter. It’s traits are very basic. It has the highest base hp as well as highest base armor. Nothing really sets it apart from others aside from it’s simple nature. A common argument is that it requires weapon swapping, which is both untrue (little synergy between weapon types aside from the oh so popular, lay down a flame field then switch to a weapon that can use it) and need not apply, as such arguments can be applied to any class (just about all, if not all, have various incentives to weapon swap).
