Client multi accounts REMEMBER ME
As a workaround, you can:
- use multiple Windows accounts to run multiple different GW2 account
- swap out the Local.dat file where your login information is stored
- use the -email, -password and -nopatchui options to automatically login
- use a program to automate any of the above
I don’t want work around, i wish to have valid option to swamp between them, since it’s not that much of a work. Their client already has drop menu, they just need to include it that’s it. I know Anet has a lot of work, that’s why this is just a suggestion for future when they will be empty handed for 5 minutes Would be cool!
While its somewhat less secure, the -email -password and -nopatchui command switches aren’t a work around.
They are a valid option programmed in by the devs.
Would a drop down be nice? Maybe
But I have 6 links on my desktop, each one opens a different account.
And with those commands and a saved location for the authenticater it means each account is a double click away from being opened.
clickclick, I’m in, wrong account, close
clickclick, in a different one
As I said the need to save the above info is risky like any save password function (it leaves your username and password in plain text for anyone to find if they gain access to the computer and a saved location, so it leaves this computer as a totally open access point to all your accounts, so I only recommend using it on a computer with good physical security), but honestly if the above is too risky it simply means one is not observing proper security in other areas anyway.

Yep- I would recommend the 3rd option. It’s pretty simple. However, currently it hasn’t been working for my accounts strangely(but works absolutely fine for my bf’s computer). Probably something small I’ve overlooked, but I don’t mind typing out my alt account details too much.
Here’s a quick how-to, just in case people need a step-by-step.
Make extra shortcuts on your desktop and rename the shortcuts to something you can associate with each account (e.g. account name/char name/ which “number” your account is).
Right click the shortcut and select properties.
In the target field, after the file location name, write -nopatchui (which means when clicking the shortcut, it will launch directly into your character select screen) along with -email johndoe@email.com -password prettypinkbubbles1234
Of course, use your own details
So it should look something like:
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2\bin\Gw2.exe” -nopatchui -email johndoe@email.com -password prettypinkbubbles1234
If you try using one of these shortcuts with the -nopatchui command before the client has been updated, the client won’t launch. So, you’ll need to have a normal log-in for one of your accounts and make sure you open it before using and of the alternate shortcuts (I use my first account considering this is the one I usually log into first).
EDIT: Yes, absolutely what Scribe said. I forgot to mention it myself (silly me). Reiterating for good measure: Make sure you only use this method if you are sure nobody will be able to get access to the details, other than you. It is essentially the same as storing passwords on a desktop file, which we’ve all been told isn’t a great idea. :P

I tried the nopatchui on my computer. It freaked it out and after it finished with its nervous breakdown I took that thing back out. I’ll just have to continue typing the login.
ANet may give it to you.
Just the -nopatchui or all 3 options?

Hmmm. The place where I got my information about nopatchui didn’t tell me that I needed to first start up then close down the client with a regular login. That might have been the problem.

Ah yeah its a bit vague, that switch tells it to bypass the patch phase, so if you need a patch it does wig out and can’t tell you.
Or at least as far as I can tell, if I click that icon and the game sort of half loads I’ve been able to get it to finish by just clicking the normal icon, not sure what it does but it seems to work.
For me at least it only needs to open the patch window if there’s a new update (been happening this week a lot)
I keep a normal icon by the rest, and pop that open to see if it needs any patches before closing and using my custom ones, but most of the time I don’t need to use it.
No idea if it makes any difference whatsoever but I put -nopatchui after the email and password switches, not before like Crimson listed. It’s something to try if it still acts wonky at least.

Well, I may try it again, someday when I’m feeling brave. lol.
My computer expertise hovers slightly above level one, with the ability to follow clearly written instructions but no idea how to fix things if they go wrong. The computer freaking out the first time left me suspicious of nopatchui.
ANet may give it to you.
I think you might need to add all of them inn, not just the -nopatchui.
you usually type inn the email and password in the patcher, so if you try to bypass the patcher without any login details, it won’t know which account to use, hence why it acts strangely.
So try to add all of them next time: -email -password and -nopatchui

I run two clients at once. If only I was lucky enough to have such a simple problem. Making a shortcut for each account is such an easy fix in comparison. Also if you are interested in running multiple instances of GW2, Google how to run multi-instances of GW1 and modify the instructions for GW2 file and registry paths. Or if someone nice who can program would modify the GW1 auto multi-launcher for GW2?
MultiWars, saves a lot of hassle, and a lot of the solutions listed out there involve Hex editing gw2.exe which is very very much not allowed.

Thanks for putting in the instructions, I have 2 accounts and I am thinking of getting a third, changing from one to another has always seemed such a pain. Now I have the standard shortcut for my main account which I always go in first so patching shouldn’t be a problem, and now a second short cut for my second account.
I admit it took a couple of attempts to get it to work, not due to anything wrong in the instructions, but due to my inability to follow them precisely. I was about to come on and say it didn’t work for me, then as i read it through again I realised where I was going wrong. If a computer muggle like me can manage it there is hope for you all.
Can we have an option, to remember multiple accounts?
For example i have 3 accounts and it’s kind of sweet feature to have drop menu pick account which one you want to log on, and there we go!
this would be a great add to the game . hope one of the dev,s see this post. and think so too.
