So there’s two parts to this: 1. Why do we break the Colossus loose in the first place? If it’s to leave the fractal then how would we know to do that. 2. Who/What is the Colossus? there’s no known lore (that i know of) about Colossus’ even existing in the gw universe. And to add to that it seemed like he was corrupt or something as his stone structure had some sort of aura coming from inside, like he was about to explode or was corrupt. I want to see what you guys think and see if i didn’t miss something important >.>

Actually there’s a Season of the Colossus in Tyria. It’s the earth equivalent of Winter, associated with the element earth in Tyria and celebrated as Grenth’s season in Elona.

The last day of the Season of the Colossus is Wintersday, where a battle occurs each year between Grenth and Dwayna. Dwayna (and Lyss/Llya/Lyssa) represents the Season of the Zephyr, which is the earth equivalent of spring.

This is probably connected to the lore behind the Season of the Colossus. Remember: everything in the fractals of the mists has happened in the past, or a fragment of the past. There are no futures in Fractals. It’s clearly back-lore of some kind that we’ve yet to discover.

As Fractals are a glimpse into the past, perhaps he’s one of the Giganticus Lupicus.

As Fractals are a glimpse into the past, perhaps he’s one of the Giganticus Lupicus.

Giganticus Lupicus are canine in appearance. He’s perfectly humanoid.

Sadly this is one of the points where many fractals fail – there isn’t enough story on these supposed historic moments. This fractals supposedly happens “at the beginning of history”, and it is known that around that time giants ruled Tyria. I believe the Jotun “king” or whatever at the beginning of the Norn personal story mentions something along the lines of “true giants” having existed long before humans came.

Giganticus Lupicus being one kind of giant. It’s also hinted that, unless a retcon took place (hope not), the Lupicus we fight in Arah is basically a baby or juvenile. We know of another race we classify simply as “Giants”, because they still exist today, albeit very few of them remain. Colossus would appear to be much older than most races, with the exception of perhaps Lupicus, and could simply have been another race that walked Tyria long before even written history begun being kept, let alone GW1 taking place.

Its not just he cliffside fractal, its all of them, except the Ascalon/Charr one, which the only reason we have any reference to that is from GW1. That why I don’t get why people are weighing the fractal so much in the Cutthroat Politics. We’re not going to be able to get much, if any, story in the new fractal, mainly because they can’t make it too long.
