Cliffside Fractal
Agreed. This Fractal dungeon is definitely my favorite of the bunch. I really enjoyed the scale of it, the verticality. I hope this is only a taste of things to come!
Im not a big Anet fan atm due to what they have started to push the game to.
But this was amazing and I too got chills.
Agreed. Seeing the colossus look back and bow brings a huge sense of accomplishment to the completion.

LVL 80 Slyvari Ranger
Good paced encounter… even though the boss is a bit of an HP sponge at the end, it’s broken into phases so that you’re not just constantly whomping on him (assuming you don’t try to cheese it by just AoE’ing the final seal).
I admit I like this one as well. Weird thing is, the more I do the Fractals the more I like all of them… including the swamp one. What started off as a complete PITA is now becoming a more strategic challenge and easier to overcome.
The Cliffside is also one of my favorites. On the bit with the fire did any of you notice that he is the one that is blows them out? If you look up, you’ll see him looking down at you and blowing on the fire to protect you. That was an incredible touch that I think goes largely un-noticed.
I also like the connotations this one has on lore. All of the fractals are on Tyria in some place or time. So….wtf was he? When did that happen? Where is he now? Are there more of him hiding somewhere? Will we see him again? The game introduced that thing we never seen or heard of before and it exists in the world, or existed since the humans have been around. I hope we learn more about it.

I have never gotten to finish this one due to various grouping reasons but I’m dying to! It looks so epic from what I’ve seen myself and seen described here.

I want to know more about this Colossus! Where did he come from, where is he going!?!? Very well done.
If you wait to go to the next level/back to the hub, you can see him teleport away/turn into glowing dust and rise up into the sky.
I’ve played it probably half a dozen times or more now at this point but it was cool seeing that since every other time we had warped out before he was done walking away.
It’s a clever dungeon. It’s more than a hole in the ground where you kill things, then take their stuff. I, too, am curious about the backstory.
Ratbag Dogsticker (Guardian)
…Yak’s Bend
That’s the one thing missing from Fractals – learning more about the backstory – where we are, why are we doing this?
I think its like Quantum Leap. You don’t really know where or why. You just have to figure out the thing that needs to be done to make the next jump.
We may never know how important a role in history it was for us to kill a naked barbarian in a swamp.

Oh my, perfect comparison. Didn’t think of it that way!
love this fractal.. intense and fast paced, demands a good amount of teamwork and the end is just sheer poetry. i wish the final boss at the chain was a weeee bit tougher though.
make sure to return the /bow to the Colossus too ;;)
I enjoyed it too, at lvls pre-10. The running back and forth between the seals part is excessively challenging on Lv.13 and up because of the huge mob sizes.
I liked it up until fractal 8 or so. It’s now on my list of “if I get this fractal as the first one im just going back to the bloody lab and retrying”
Not even the difficulty (usually) it’s just far longer than almost any other fractal without added loot. Compare it to something like dredge. Cliffside and dredge both take similar amounts of time, but I routinely leave dredge with ~20-30 heavy miner bags, usually netting me around an extra 60s-1g in T6 mats. Contrast that to my all time record of 5 bags of stolen goods from cliffside and the time taken to do it compared to the loot is just blah.
Then you have fractals like swamp or aquatic, which have similar amounts of loot to cliffside, but go by about 3x faster.

This, so much this. That fractal is just too kitten long. My suggestion would be just to get rid of the head and chest seals and remove the archdiviner altogether. The hardest part would remain the arm seals and given the difficulty I have had getting people to work together to complete it that fight deserves to be the boss fight.

I loved Quantum Leap! I am going to think of this when I do fractals from now on. If you get into a pug group with a little Ausra ranger talking to an invisible friend named “Al”, you’ll know it’s me!
am I the only one who hates this? >_> I don’t mind jumping, but when you fall and bug out most of the time, it kinda gets annoying =/

That or make the chanters and such drop loot, and then have killing them damage the seals somewhat (such that they cant be farmed forever) and then for the arms or something just keep it at 0 loot. That way when you’re donking the chest seal 10 times or whatever the monsters dont feel practically pointless to kill.
Really well designed fractal and so nice made with the colossus I really hope we see him again…
I like the setting of that Fractal, but from a gameplay perspective I don’t like it too much any more It’s pretty long compared to other Fractals, and there’s not that much loot. (yes, I love picking up lots of shiny stuffs)

I wouldnt want to remove the archdiviner. Particularly the starting fight to get the hammer in the first place, it’s such an exciting fight I find and I typically don’t mind fighting the Archdiviner straight away (without using the bug)
Colossus fractal is great, and the fractal that I enjoyed the most the first few times I played it (being a fan of the jumping puzzle/trap element of it), but it’s simply too long.
