I decided today to start putting my materials aside for my first weapon.
It’s bad enough that we need the entire Encyclopedia Britannica of materials to create this abomination weapon. I just found out that for the clover which we need 77, that in order to obtain 1 or 10 depending on recipe, that you only get a 27 to 32% chance of getting one.

Please discuss the clover and let Anet know what you think of the way they handled it.
Personally I think more often than not Anet has a stinky way of handling material and the store in general. It makes you wonder if they really love and appreciate their player base.

PS: Would it be too much Anet to get a 100% guaranty of result from a recipe? Or do you always feel like “Bash the player, bash the player” until he quits?
This rant was also triggered by the, give me $10.00 and I’ll generously give you a soulbound item.

My rant is over.

My 2 cents…

I don’t get the problem. I really don’t get it, because clovers are not soulbound. Are they being made souldbound or something? Or is this not about them being soulbound? I’m confused by your post.

@ LilMcGinley: 371 and you still find this a perfect situation?
I’m sure the person you know who did it that many times wouldn’t think so.
It’s unfair to everyone and this post is my way of letting Anet know that their system stinks and not only for me. The thing is most people don’t even wanna hear about legendary because it’s too much everything and I used to feel the same way until I found one I can’t resist.

@ Mirta: Sorry for the confusion, I shouldn’t have added the soulbound issue which has to do with the store only.

This rant was also triggered by the, give me $10.00 and I’ll generously give you a soulbound item. This refers to the harvest scandal everyone talked about and other similar items which should have been fully account bound to be fair.
Fair play would seem isn’t Anet’s way lately.

The fact that it’s a clover shows that they actually want to reward luck. Working as intended.

Spent 100 obs shards for my first 60 clovers, took 300 shards for the next 17. Honestly i can see why people are kitten ed off. That said it IS do able from any content you play in the game, and honestly if it wasn’t for the karma cost i may have made profit on it, i haven’t really counted.

Now if you were to ask about the dungeon shards i need to get the wep… Always love farming ONE place in the game. For a game that boasts you can do what content you want, and doesn’t have a dungeon finder… Well that’s a different topic :p

I thought they were pretty helpful. While getting clovers I ended up getting a bunch of the T6 mats I needed.

Attempt = clover (win because I need 77)
Attempt = 2 ecto (win because of free retry, ecto towards gift of fortune or 18+s.)
Attempt = 2-4 T6 mats (win because you need 250 each)
Attempt = Lodestone (win because $$)
Attempt = 1-5 T6 refined (could be win/wash/loss depending on if your legendary needs them)

Attempt = Coins or shards (loss. Gained extra attempts, but lost an ecto)
Attempt = Crystals or treasure (loss. 10 clover recipe item for single clover recipe botch?)

Clovers should be the first thing that players go for in their legendary hunt since even tries that don’t result in clovers themselves lend progress towards the other gifts you need.

@ AcidicVision: Thanks I understand the clover strategy a lot better now.
But I still stand firm on the soulbound issue.

There was the harvest tool issue but also the armors bought in store in the beginning you could buy a light armor and it would be useful for other light characters as well but now once you have chosen the wearer it’s soulbound. So what now Anet? Why should we have to buy 3 times the same armor for 3 characters? That’s what I mean by unfair treatment of the player base.

I got my 77 clovers without spending a single copper. Of course, this means the opportunity cost of not selling the materials I used to make the clovers. But, I got them entirely by gathering materials.

Farming level 70+ dungeons for tokens, trading those tokens for level 70+ rare armors, salvaging for ecto. Karma is so easy to obtain, I was able to buy 2 stacks of obsidian shards and still have 4 million leftover. The only thing I ran out of was mystic coins, but I get a free one of those every day.

Those armadillos would be a lot cooler if they looked more like real armadillos. mmm armadillos

Sorry. I meant to say “as someone” as in, it took me 371 tries to do it. And yes, I stand by my belief.

ANet is a company which needs money to run; there’s nothing unfair about them charging money for cosmetic/convenience items that they know will sell. You may have a problem with it, but there are plenty of people who will and have bought multiple harvesting tools for multiple characters. And when those tools become available again in the living story rotation? A lot of those same people will buy more tools for new characters, and a lot of the people who missed them the first time around will do the same. Repeat ad infinitum.

There’s simply to much money to be made. ANet would be fools to make those items account bound.

I actually enjoyed it. By doing Clovers, I have been able to get other T6 mats, which is always a good thing. At the end of the 77-clover quest, you’ll see that you have acquired a lot of mats that would otherwise cost a lot of farming, gold, or both.

I actually missed forging the Clovers, because now, I am left with farming. I would rather forge, and have T6 mats as a reward for failing to get a clover. I mean, a failure that rewards you? I think that’s pretty awesome…

Did the 10 stacks recipe twice,
1st try got 30 out of 8 attempts,
2nd try (months later) got 50 out of 5 attempts (100%).

Hahahahahaha, kinda funny.

Seriously, the recipe is one of the most profitable things. I mean.. If you fail in getting the clovers, you get 1-4 T6 mats. Sell then to recover (And profit) your money (Or just save then, you need 250 of all). Skill points? Pfft, just farm some champions and you’ll get a lot of skill points.

Well, personally, I don’t find any problems with the clover system, seriously. My only problem is what to do with my 200+ clovers stting at my bank right now..

(Globs are 20s , and also, a real easy to get actually, with guaranteed rares everywhere).

The system works. Fortune has two meanings, either being extremely lucky or extremely rich.

For 77 clovers at the 1 recipe you’re almost guarantueed to get them around the 250 mark. That indicates fortune.

For the 10 clover recipe, you could potentially get all by the 8th try, or have nothing by that time. It indicates luck.

Pick your choice.

Not only that, but you always get a price for losing, a price that’s invariably useful to your legendary quest.

Would you settle for a 5 ecto > 1 clover guarantueed recipe?

The recipe is very reasonable considering how many t6 you need for the Gift of Might and Gift of Magic.

As for the soulbound tools. An item is being offered at a particular price, it is either worth the price or it isn’t. Do you go into stores and complain about the price of beer being too high? They are also bind on use not on acquire. They would certainly be more appealing if they weren’t soulbound on use but it is up to you if that property lowers their value enough that they are no longer worth the cost. Ranting about that would be a bit silly.

As someone with 231 clovers in inventory (enough for 3 legendaries), I feel bad. Would be nice to be able to sell them for those who are unlucky (at a massive profit, of course)

There are cheaper precursors out there. Some under 100g.
