Cobalt burns my retinas
-don’t use one of the skins that glow or have particle effects
-turn off the particle effects in your display options.

Have you downloaded new drivers for your graphics card recently?
There’s some hardware that can fix that. Look here:
… but seriously. If you don’t like all that sparkle and shine, why are you adding to it?
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

Lol. Drivers would affect the radius of lighting set by game devs? That’s a new. Its not a bug.
And yes, I know can turn off particle effects or pick another sword (I regret ever equipping it, could have sold it for a decent profit but the preview showed NOTHING for the ground lighting). That still doesnt change the fact that the lighting effect is absolutely ridiculous. The particle effects are just fine.

I will agree to the OP, i bought Cobalt and after 1 or 2 hours of sadness i changed the skin and realised i wasted 20 gold on nothing, but didnt care coz at least the shining hell was gone.
It isnt a bug or anything just the way it was designed, and the thing is other players dont even see the glow so u cant even stand out with ur blade, nope its just a personal torture for the eyes which i dont think is worth it. They should remove it coz its silliy and annoying if u ask me.
Also if it is a bug pls remove it faster.
I love it. Take it with you to the Obsidian Sanctum.
So I’m a Mesmer. I throw sparkly lightning all over the screen and shimmering pink bubbles. Every engagement is an explosion of fabulous. I also poop rainbows because I carry Bifrost. That’s when I’m alone. Lets not even begin to discuss how it looks when there are more us. We cant even see bosses because they are covered in flame/sparkles/explosions/unicorns/whatever.
But now I also have to have my retinas burned off every time I swap to one of the new greatsword skins?!
How much more lighting effects can the game have before the entire screen is just… white?
if you dislike it that much give it to me =)
Would setting animation to low when you’re using it work?
I know that tones down the effects of other weapons when I do it.
Use another skin. I enjoy that it acts as a light source. There are actually several items with this, like the sylvari t3 cultural torch.
It’s not a bug, or something to be removed, it’s a preference.
I love it this way
Looks like the usual issue with snow and anything that provides light.
Yup
Would like a “Toggle sparkles” option pls. c:
The problem is not just for Cobalt (I have it) but for all the skills that, put together, are incredibly sparkly O__o eyes hurts so much

You’d be surprised… have you done the new Dwayna Priest lately??

There are some people that didn’t turn off the horrible post processing effects yet? :p
I wish we had a toogle to turn off other players’ particle effects, other than skill animations. Would make the game far more visible when there are large numbers of players around. Much like the volume control for players’ instruments, this would greatly reduce some of the polution in-game.

here’s an elegant solution: !http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/6/6e/Transmutation_Crystal.png! + !http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/f/f9/Ebonblade_Alt.jpg!
Something wrong with your settings. I don’t get all that light on mine.

I haven’t noticed any changes in that fight. Postprocessing has always been enabled but probably not at the highest setting.

Exactly. Typical player playing a guardian with post processing effects turn on (even on low) has almost same effect on the encounter as blind man since what you see is just a white screen.
Seems fine to me.
Use another skin, problem solved.
They finnaly put some nice GS skin in the game that does not look like that crap with stone/bone/leather/rusty/dead animal, and you came here to complain, jesus.
I use this skin and it’s amazing, thank you Anet.
Simple solution: switch Cobalt for Ebonblade:

The exact same model (but with different colors) and no particle effects or lighting effects to burn your retinas..
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.
