PvE Main – Zar Poisonclaw – Daredevil
WvW Main – Ghost Mistcaller – Herald
I bought 3. 1K of every collectible, meaning I’ll never have to hold any in my actual slots? My money was well spent, and the tears fall from my eyes.
Making us paying for something we should rationally have by default for free? It is not only wrong, it is offensive.

What makes you think you should have more mat storage for free? You got 250 for each mat when you bought the game. If you want extra things you are not entitled to them just for logging in. You can easily have these extra things by buying gems with real money or, wait, wait, converting in game gold to gems. The later you can easily earn by playing the game without spending one dime of real money.
When you bought the game, box price, you got unlimited play time for as long as the game is active. I’m sorry you feel like you are entitled to everything else that comes out after, but hey, you will live.

Just don’t buy it. Nothing changes for you in that case. It’s a convenience item.
I just make some alts and a guild bank for myself. Problem mostly solved.
The only collectibles that ever go above 250 for me would be bloodstone and empyreal. So to me this is pretty much equivalent to saving 2 bank spaces for 800 gems. I’mma have to pass.
Do people really stack that many materials?
There is also platinum ore, iron, copper, orichalcum ore, t6 leather thingy, gossamer scraps, silk scraps, cotton scraps, vanilla beans, butter, eggs, … this is a very long list.
To be honest, the collections expansion was data mined ages ago and we knew it would be a gemstore item. At the time we were ok with that.
Really? I didn’t know about that so I guess that means I didn’t ok it. You guys knew it is going to cost $30?

$10. $10 for 1 of them. $30 if you wanted 3, like I did.
If it weren’t for Bloodstone Dust, I wouldn’t give this a second thought…
Which is why some of the new recipes are 250 Bloodstone Dust instead of 2 Bloodstone bricks. This way, you have to retain some of your Bloodstone Dust as dust if you think that you may want to use those recipes in the future. Which means you would have to use more inventory space.
Smart don’t you think, especially considering the timing when this Collection Expander was released right after those new recipes?

We’ve all lived with 250 stack size for this long and been fine. This isn’t exactly a core game feature, it’s a nice to have like unlimited gathering tools. I have zero issues with them charging for this. Frankly for as much as we get from this game for free, I’m a bit surprised we don’t pay a sub….
couldn’t they at least give us 1 of these in the 10k achievement chest – for accomplishing sooo much of their game? and then if we wanted to – can purchase the remaining 2 from the gem store?
of course the ability to deposit more while on the battlefield means less time to go to your bank/vendor/guild bank to empty the bags out. i purchased the full inv slots for my main but even still need to go back to base every now and then…. couldn’t they at least give a little as well…… im not asking for all 3 for free – just 1 as apart of a achievement chest. maybe 15k instead of the 10k or something along those lines..
2400 gems… >.> Sorry, I’m just going to trash all my extra bloodstone dust
Good thing I only have 1 main and 1 alt. Free mules FTW!

Did that in GW1 and it was very inconvenient especially when searching for something.

That makes it even more inconvenient. Bad enough that I have to do this for dungeon story mode completion.

Not really, spreadsheet loads faster than the game itself and comes with search command too. I can also analyze the data in many different ways and view it on any web browser on any device.
spreadsheet still has a problem, if i dont update it, then it wont have the correct information. eg; being too lazy to update doesnt help either!
Could of at least be discounted for the festive season!!!
I like it when the Anet engineers really earn that paycheck.
You mean the ones who artificially limited the stack counter to 250 in the first place, so they could then charge extra for the “feature” of removing that artificial limit?
I suspect you should be “praising” the marketing department, not the engineers.
GW2 has officially become crippleware.
They allowed the stacks to become 1000 in the SAB minigame.
They also figure if they can do that in a minigame, why not make it a global game thing affecting potentially everyone’s inventory. Also if you’ll cast your mind back not that far, there was a cost to upgrade the SAB storage item to the next highest level, and it was exactly that amount in baubles. It was an in-game currency but still you had to work for it.
The only difference here is that you’re paying potentially with real cash or having to convert gold over to gems to get the same functionality. I’ll remind you that this is by no means a NEED, it’s only a WANT feature. If you need that much space and you’re a hoarder on the collectibles then that’s your business and you would be Anet’s prime focus. Personally I always found it easier to stash collectibles in my guild bank/vault/trove/cave, and I realise that this theory doesn’t work for bloodstone dust and anything else that’s acct-bound… but, whatever blows that skirt up.
they are selling these because of poor sales of gems?
not much items peeps needed to buy in the store?
well, i guess their database/system/network/servers maintenace costs is needed?
maybe they should follow eq2/swtor hybrid ftp/sub price modes
then this feature will be given for free for those with subs
Here’s how they should have done it. Give a living story meta reward of 250 collection expansion. Then put it on the gem store for a cap of 1250.
That would make everyone happy and anet still gets to make cash and appear to not be so blatant about their money grabs.
But then.. that’s something most people would consider useful, unlike glowy back skin #82 so that’s probably why it didn’t happen.
This is a pure quality of life item and I have no problems with it…
Everyone can store 250 of everything for free. Now you can pay/support GW2 and store 1,000 of everything.
Don’t see a problem here…
Also, to those saying this should be free, you are aware that most countries nowadays are capitalist economys and not communist…right? Also, wages/running costs after be paid every week?
spreadsheet still has a problem, if i dont update it, then it wont have the correct information. eg; being too lazy to update doesnt help either!

Well it doesn’t take much effort to update it and I love updating spreadsheets. Yay!
Hmm $30 just to have a functioning inventory just doesn’t seem right to me. Figured it would be one upgrade.
This, its too much.
Now we know why they’ve been putting, into the game, more and more recipes that require over 100 materials.
… Yep: definitely starting to see a Nexon 2.0 in GW2’s future.
“You don’t have to buy it to play; they’re just milking that cow harder than ever.”
As much as I want to say they outdid their selves $30 for a semi functional backpack note I have 1 20 slot bag full of mitril 1 20 slot and part of another full of bloodstone dust (legendaries on main so f ascended) another 20 slot full of dragonite and empher whatever bank full of butter apples and bleh cant remember the other crafting item seriously I could see spending $30 for wallet expansion to hold as many of them darn collectibles as we want but to free up 3 extra spaces across about 150 used by about 5 items? not worth it
Edit: ok nerd alert if it’s a personal bank etc for each person and there is magic why can’t it be like in DnD bag of holding that holds unlimited items? hrm hrmmm? 2 characters 128 of 136 slots used(at all times WOOO I get to pick up 8 items YEZZZZZZZZZZZZZ) with a full bank

As long as people are willing to spend absurd amount of money for Anet to literally change one line of code then they will keep doing it.
I just can’t believe anyone would spend that much money. You can feed an entire village in Africa for a month on that. I mean just 5 years ago $30 got you:
10 new zones
1 new class
2 new races
12 new dungeons
3 new raids
5 new features
1000 new quests
30 new mounts
Now it gets you:
extra bank space.
A feature involving few number tweaks
QoL asked since long time ago
Stacks instead of single item, overpricedAlsoknownas: “Cheap Cashgrabbing”
yeah, down with a company making money, permanent conveince items are totally not what people want! /sarcasm
this is a smart cash shop item and exactly what I would have expected from the start of the game. I’m surprised it took this long to add it even. The only item in the shop right now I have a problem with is the black lion keys and that’s only because I feel they are over priced.
Making us paying for something we should rationally have by default for free? It is not only wrong, it is offensive.
would you rather they charge for content? They could just as easily sell dungeon access and pvp maps. Personaly I will go with convenience items.
It’s interesting to people complain about what they have the option to pay for yet no mention of what they’ve been getting for free. Interesting indeed.
Actually, I can see both sides of this point. My contention is this.
People who have enough mats to make this worth it, are making money/gold anyway. If you really have so many mats that you need this, you’re playing enough to make it worth ten bucks extra. I play enough to make it worth 30 bucks extra. If you’re not playing that much you won’t need it.
For me, it was a no brainer.
Blame the people who said they would pay for this feature long ago. It’s sad that people are complaining that Anet is listening to the people. If you don’t like it or think it’s overpriced then don’t buy it and thank those who do because these sales help us get more free content. I will buy just to thank them for the game and get something useful as well. Capitalism working as intended
Charging players for their database cleanup…
Genius. I take off my hat ANet.

More sales for free content…You know that makes absolutely no sense in any way shape or form. Either way you pay for the content, whether it’s $15 of gems or $15 for a subscription. At least a sub game offers you the game for your purchase, the Anet system actually milks MORE money out of most people before they realize it.
I’m not saying it’s not smart or a good move from a capitalistic standpoint, but to say any of the content is free is just ludicrous as it’s being paid for by the players either way. Most of this “new content” is gated behind gems or RNG anyway, so it’s just a poor example in my humble opinion.
I believe GW2 will be my first and last buy to play MMO. Its getting way more expensive than subscription.

Go a couple months without paying a mandatory subscription to access a game you already paid for and see what happens. Then go a couple months without buying gems in GW2.
Now, let’s call you out on what appears to be a blatant attempt to spread misinformation: Show me one piece of content that is gated behind gems.

Any skin that has been put behind a lockbox is content gated behind gems. To be fair I don’t even look at the gem store much these days, and haven’t participated in any world event since Dragon Bash. If you would like to argue the semantics of what “content” is, argue with someone else. If skins are the only progression Anet is willing to offer, that is their content in my eyes.
They may of changed their stance on this kind of stuff, but to be perfectly fair I’m much happier just getting in a few hours of WvW every week and not worrying about their next “content” cash grab.
it’s cheaper to buy the gems, convert to gold.then create your own storage guild and then convert the gold into influence to create guild banks.
Yep, I think most of us are already doing this and will continue to do so as it’s a cheaper option than even store bought space.
Agreed, I bit the bullet months ago and did the personal guild thing and it has worked out rather nice, the added benefit is that if you choose to run under that guild banner sometimes and build influence you have the added choice of dropping banners which comes in handy at times and is normally appreciated by the other players.

Indeed, I enjoy dropping banners for people as well
I’m not a hardcore player, but in the past month or so I’ve been having stacks of just about everything you can gather piling up in my bags – I have lots of alts and it’s starting to pile up in their wee little lowbie bags, too.
I’ll probably buy at least one. I don’t know, realistically I think they’re worth probably half the price being charged for them (to me), but I don’t have to buy them all at once and I’m not paying a monthly fee so spreading it out over months won’t add up to a lot. Eh. Dunno.
what if the collection increase item was discounted to say 600 gems?
Who would be buying it then?
I know i will – hint hint anet – please for the xmas time discount this! wheres ur xmas spirit eh!???
$30 to activate a feature that should be standard… yeah… no.
lol this, not to mention i have no plans to spend 30 dollars on a game that’s future looks bleak at best
I think it’s sad to say I would rather gw2 go subscription and give us actual content than have this crap
Should have voted Evon
I dunno, I don’t know why this is that surprising. This is what happens when is game has no subscription and is free to play. The money comes from somewhere, in this case it’s convenience and cosmetics.
The game already had almost the exact same things since launch. You could buy more character slots, more inventory slots, more bank slots. This is exactly the same as all of that. You don’t need these things to play. They add convenience, sure, but it ultimately doesn’t make or break the game for anyone.
If you don’t want to pay a subscription this is what you get.

What he said.
I’ve always assumed the 250 stack limit to be a database thing. In binary the highest number you can achieve with 8 bits is 255. (this is why you’de never see an IP address with a higher number than 254)
Going past 255 requires more than 8 bits = more disk space. 16 bits have the potential for a stack of 65535 though and once you’ve crossed that bridge a stack of 256 or 65535 takes up the same amount of diskspace/computing power so there really is very little reason to charge 3 x for the upgrade.

Interesting stuff. How about 2.5 billion or so in a stack? Because that’s what the last game I played bank offers as well as personal inv spaces for some items like cash, runes etc. So how many bits would 2+ billion work out at, seriously I am interested lol?
