They all seem to be very grindy, give almost no reward worth the effort, and if they do give a good reward, such as an ascended armor, you could’ve farmed a full set in the time it would’ve taken you to complete the collection for a single piece of armor.

I love the fact they’re grindy, I love the fact they exist, but the rewards for them are…underwhelming beyond belief.

Am I missing something?

I don’t know, but the bandit weapon collection has a pretty cool reward, as well as the trash collector.

Yeah, some of the rewards do seem underwhelming, but they are optional. So do the ones you want, and leave the rest.

They’re also not all achievable anymore. Well…ok, one could feasibly sit around waiting for days for a group who actually want to do the Bloodtide escort for the Orrian Relic….but then that’s assuming Triple Trouble isn’t up.

I know some people resort to saying, “Well, the idea is that you should have to work to feel the sense of accomplishment”. Sitting around waiting for people on a dead map to do an event no one wants to do but that is necessary to get the collection item…and having that further stymied by a a mega-event that nearly always fails but does succeed in preventing obtaining the collection item"…there is absolutely zero sense of accomplishment in that.

For the Orrian Relic one, you COULD always put it in the LFG, and or ask your guild. Or just try to solo it. Instead of waiting around for people to come to the event, try to find them.

Please make collections worth doing

They’re something that you do passively as you play the game over the long term. If you choose to rush through them then of course they’re going to feel grindy.

Most of the collections aren’t even worth doing as a long term goal, because if you get some of the items needed for them you’re better off selling them for the 100g+ they sell for.

Then don’t do them.

I won’t, and they’ll remain useless. Good use of dev time.

Or we could make them worth doing, and the dev time isn’t wasted.

Well they are for the most part optional, so that helps to balance out some of the lackluster rewards. But yes some nicer collection with some nicer rewards would be nice, but I wouldn’t be heart-broken if it doesn’t happen anytime soon.

If the rewards were much more substantial, then all people would do is grind-grind-grind collections. In their current form, they are a minor encouragement to people to engage in exploration and specific content. Most people will find that they get 30-80% through basic collections eventually, merely by playing the game as they like. As they reach 70%+, some of those people will decide to complete the collection because it’s so close.

I think that’s a perfectly fine system and so I’d be against buffing up the rewards for existing collections.

Have you considered that the items are that expensive precisely because of people trying to force-finish the collections? Without the collections, or once the “I must have it now” people are mostly done, a lot of collection items will be relatively worthless again.

To me, collections look like they are working as intended. It’s fun to every now and then find an item that goes into one of the collections. It’s not a “do it, and do it now” checklist, but rather a kind of trophy case displaying shinies you’ve aquired in the course of regular play. I like how collection items accumulate slowly but steadily, and if I finish a collection, it’s a pleasant bonus .

I used to think the same, then i started doing them and realised i actually just enjoyed doing them over time whilst doing other things. I find them rather good fun as an activity in themselves
