Combat. Anything changed?
I left this game almost a year ago, tired of the cookie-cutter hotbar “combat” system. Has anything changed since then? Are fights now something to actually look forward to or are they still just time sinks against enemies with way too many hit points and 2-hit kills where you run backwards and hit keys 1-5?
I’d rather not waste the time reinstalling 25 gigs and to discover nothing fundamentally different and delete it again.
Combat updates have been running in the wrong direction. There have been several nerfs but none of the fundamental changes you are looking for. sPvP forever flounders while PvE is still the 1111111116111111116111111 dps race it’s always been.
The game was released too early (in order to beat MoP), so don’t expect any meaningful changes for a while. Come back after the first expansion.

I dont understand, what do you guys want? As far as I know, all MMORPG’s work exactly the way you described
Do you want you mind to be ported in to the screen, and telepathically control your character? One shot kills for everything maybe? A dozen tiny little skill bars that block every bit of view in game? Perhaps you should try actually making some kind of effort into creating a discussion rather than baseless complaining because YOU don’t like something.
This game hasn’t even been out for a year, did you quit the first week?

Meh, in mine and others’ opinions, the holy trinity does not make combat interesting. That is why I was looking forward to GW2 and why I continue to enjoy it. This game was not built for those mechanics and implementing that would require way too much work. It’s just not going to happen, but I’m sure there are plenty of MMO’s coming soon with the mechanics you want.

Those roles are denied in this awesome game.
What tanks provide: ORDER, this game gets very chaotic without some positioning of mobs and bosses. Who tanks help: DPS, so they can focus on doing damage and not constantly trying to support, to keep a fight alive.
What healers provide: Well, heals and buffs, obviously. Who healers help: DPS, so they can focus on doing damage and not constantly trying to support, to keep a fight alive.
Every class can stay the same really, just put good taunts and better defensive cooldowns for the warrior and guardian. Or any tanky class, necro maybe?
As for healing, I have healed/supported every MMO I have ever played and I love that role. Good MMO players carry and that’s what makes not only a good community but a good safetynet for anyone that’s new or just needs some more time to learn to be a BAMF. It’s a game, let us support our own community of players. We (tanks/healers) badly miss it. A light mage, cleric, some kind of spirit/whisp or a tree/druid , would be a good class to add for this role."

Tank, healer, DPS. That is the holy trinity. That is what I read in the OP and that is not what this game needs.

I think G&G and Jrunyon are talking past each other. G&G (and the OP Shooopa) seem more concerned with how interesting the encounters are, while Jrunyon is interpreting it as being concerned with the input mechanics of wsad, mouse, and keybindings.
(Given Shooopa’s complaints involving hitting keys 1-5 and G&G likewise invoking pressing skill keys as a bad thing in his first post here, I also had Jrunyon’s interpretation initially.)
Lol, well that clears it up.
I would be all for new buffs and de-buffs (I think that’s what he was talking about) and I’m sure we’ll see new skills in the future, but there’s a fundamental problem I feel must be worked out first; I don’t want to have to rely completely on my 789 skill slots to be competitive in stuff like WvW. (In sPvP I’m definitely not opposed to dedicated players having a greater edge, provided a ladder or elo system is introduced to filter these dedicated players from the rest of the flock.)
Sometimes I just want to have fun and not be completely shut down by a dude who Macro’d perma block buffs.

Its not even been out “almost a year” how can you be away for that long if the was not here?
Any way combat is as deep as you want to make it. If you just use one weapons all the time hitting 1 over and over then its not going to be all that deep mainly wars. If you switch your weapons you get a bit more complex. If you use your F1-maybe F4 ability ontop of that it gets a bit more complex. If you use your utility skills with your weapon skill it get even more complex. If you start to use combo fields to up your out put it gets a great deal more complex in that you must use other ppl if you want to get more then just your stander combos. If you draw that with the environment effects and mob types well time rolls it gets even more complex.
Simply put if your running in combat and all your doing is spamming 1 and never switching weapons and never using any skill in combo with your weapons kill its going to be very very bland but some ppl need to play the game this way to get use to real time combat. This game is made to be easy to pick up but hard to master. Most thing in pve is doable with some of the most simplest effects when you hit the Spvp and WvW part of the game you MUST think about what your doing all be it a fast and more reflex way of thinking unlike the sit back mmorpg that are “i hit you you hit me” combat with no true devastation from it.
