Combat Mode mod

So is it ok by ArenaNet to use Combat Mode Mod?
No.
I read a post yesterday by ANet saying it is not permissible to use Combat Mode.
On the other hand, do you think they have the tools in place to tell what mods you’re using?
The user agreement you clicked yes to says ‘no mods.’

If it connects to the game or alters/links to the games files when running, then yes, they can tell. Same as Blizzard can tell.
I didn’t have any idea what it was, so I looked it up.
It appears that it does not in any way interact with the game files. It just draws an overlay on your screen -which I assume uses the Direct X dlls, as well as communicating with your mouse driver. Neither of those are part of Arena Net’s software.
The answer from ArenaNet is that third-party tools are permitted as long as they don’t alter the running game code (i.e. hack) or invoke a multi-sequence macro on single key press or click. The combat mod apparently falls into the later group and they’ve made a public statement about it being not allowed.
That being said, what I find interesting is that the new Logitec G600 MMO mouse (which I have and love BTW) has an option to program multi-sequence macros . I have only one such macro coded and that macro was to trigger the key sequence to remove HUD and take a screen cap then put HUD back up. I’ve stopped using that because apparently this behavior is also not permitted?
It’s a strange rule to me.
I suspect the bottom line is they view combat mode as a mod that can give an advantage in certain scenarios (e.g. PvP) where it could disrupt things so I’m glad they are saying “No”. It would be nice to have the feature baked into the game down the road.
It’s really not a mod.
It’s a macro, but not a bot.
But all the macro does is hold down right click.

Why is this topic still being addressed?
More importantly, when is this going to be added as an optional feature to the game (that’s a rhetorical question that only ArenaNet can answer)?
The script LITERALLY just holds down right click, with a small dot in the center of your screen (no more obtrusive than the ugly color changing cursor).
ArenaNet, you can’t tell me your artists can’t come up with a good looking stylized circle indicator (reticle). You guys basically put in TERA-like combat then backed out, which is why this simple mod works so well; you’ve already done 99% of the work.
