Hello fellow adventurers!

Since the very beginning I am very pleased about some features that I found in GW2 only! For this topic I’ll stick on combat dynamics aspect:

- I don’t need HP, MP potions anymore (what a relief);
- I can dynamically react dodging from incoming attacks;
- I can heal myself;
- I can be saved by a team mate when in downed state (that actually happened a few times, while I was begging for help…lol);
- I don’t die through one-hit-only! (At least not so far… even with common gear, against some threating people);
- The hit detection seems quite accurate (In some mmo’s out there we get hit by meele attack miles away);
- Movement matters! If I get on moving, seems like my opponent can’t defeat me while he takes a soda sip and smash some buttons;
- I can combine skills with my teamates!
- I can switch between ranged and meele style whenever necessary, with chances to do them both pretty well!
- I can combine weapons and skills, building different playstyles. I got amazed, for instance, by thief possibilities: dagger/dagger, dagger/pistol, pistol/dagger, pistol/pistol.. not to mention shortbows and swords!

I’m definitelly against gear-based/insane grinding games (I won’t and can’t discuss about most recent changes yet). That’s what made me come to Tyria! Im at lvl 41 with absolutely no rush to level, since I still don’t need to reach level cap in order to enjoy the content.

So I’d like to have some opinions from you about these combat/gear/skill stuff aspect in pvp subject (WvWvW). Once at 80 with such features, a player still have chance against might heavy geared ones?

I really hope the community and Anet team keep working together, making GW2 such a pleasant experience.

Have you all a nice time!

It’s definitely a lot closer to an action combat game now, however I think some of the elements of the combat are lost with auto/tab targeting. The auto-targeting can select some of the most random targets from time to time (some not even on the screen or anywhere close to line of sight; I will have enemies two feet in front of me and it will target something 180 degrees behind me, not even on my screen), so it’s definitely not something to get used to at the moment.

-Dodging can be useful, although not as useful as in true action combat games, it’s definitely a welcome addition and something that every player should learn to do well (telegraphing is better in most action combat games; there is a certain “weight” to attacks that you can feel and recognize as something coming intuitively)
-Downed state is kind of a touchy subject; it’s a good idea, but not implemented as well as it could have been in my opinion (needs some tweaking).
-Don’t worry, you’’ll be one shot at some point (mwahahahaha?)
-Hit detection is decent, although projectile tracking and auto-targeting kinds of obscures it…
-Movement is always great (although some skills need some working on for their animation to make more sense, or because they just lock you in completely for almost no reason at all; ranger sword 1 I am looking at you…)
-Combo fields are okay
-Weapon swapping is awesome
-Some of the weapon sets could have been much better (whats up with warriors dual swords? They don’t even use them as dual swords; more like sword and throw a sharp pointy object randomly…)

You might have to worry about gear progression in PvE and WvW here soon; Anet has stated that they are going to add more gear tiers and levels in the future… pointless if you ask me ( a small amount of vertical progression is okay, but treadmills are just annoying as they don’t actually do anything but entertain the monkeys for a few seconds).

A decent set of gear versus the highest tier sets of gear can be made up for with skill at the moment, but if Anet continues with where they are going it might not be that way for long (sPvP should be fine though, WvW will not be…).

It’s a good game, but gravity has a powerful tendency to take things downhill.

Hope you enjoy exploring Tyria!

There are one-hit kill enemies though. They’re called “Champions”.
