(was unsure where to post this since the Ideas subforum was archived)

With the new trait system that we have set it, it’s made so that we can change our build on the fly to match any situation that we come up with. Sometimes it’s not enough just to change a trait point or 2 but may need to change your gear as well, to better fit the new traits. Now I know that going into your inventory and having to equip 6 Pieces of Armor and 6 Accessories (trinkets) and 2-4 weapons is a tedious thing to do.
What I propose is a way to link the gear so that it appears as 1 item in your inventory (see screenshot examples below). This would make it quick and easy for us to be able to swap gear when we chose, it would also allow us to be able to carry multiple sets of items without it taking up most of our inventory space.

Ideas to Achieve this

  • Have a new option in the hero panel where you can drag up to 6 items of the same kind (6 pieces of armor or 6 trinkets) that will allow you to link items. This will allow you to name the Linked item as well so that it is easily distinguished for what it is. When you click link it forms a new item in your inventory. When you want to unlink the items simply right click on the bundle and click “Un-Link” and it will separate the items to your bag. If your bags are full make the character over encumbered (like when opening a map completion chest or a WvW Rank up Chest with full bags).
  • The other way I can think of doing this is by making it act like a spreadsheet does, where you hold CTRL and click on items and when you have the items selected you right click and click
    “Combine” or “Bundle”
  • To prevent people from abusing this system make it so that when you bundle an item it automatically Account-Binds the items involved.
  • Also, to make it so that you can tell which items are involved in the Bundle: when you point your mouse over the item, have a box appear (like when you point at a skill) showing what items are all involved in the bundle.

How do you guys feel about this idea?

+1 to this.

  • Implement a Set Gear-Slot into the Hero-Panel
  • Let us mark 6 Equipment Pieces for all Body Parts and 6 Trinkets.
    • Once everything has been marked, right click on the Set Gear-Slot and choose the Option “Create a Set from all marked Items”
  • All market Items become now merged into one Set-Item, that can be put into the Set-Slot.

That system will count only for Equipment, that you aren’t wearing right now.
Equipment, that you wear, will you have as single items still shown on your Character per body part.
But if you want to exchange now 1 Armor Ste with an other, this system will allow you to do so now alot quicke,r because you’d have not anymore to double click on each single item to echange one set with an other.
With that system, the amount of clikcs would get reduced to 1 single double click to exchange one armor set out with an other and it would make space in your inventory, because all of your secondary armor sets that you run around with in your inventory wouldn’t need then anymore like 6-12 inventory slots, but instead only just 1

Example:

I have currently 2 Armor Sets with that I play mainly.
- My Standard PVT Set for WvW and PvE
- My Berserker Set for whenever just more DPS is needed over Survivability.

the Berserker Set currently takes away 6 Slots in my Inventory.
With your/my suggested version of handling equipment, this would be reduced to just 1 Item that needs Inventory Space, once all of the items that i want to use as a “Set” get for the time that I need it so temporarely “merged”, just like how it works currently with Accessoire Equipment in PvP.

There we also don’t have to equip 6 Accessoires, we just have to use basically Set-Gemstones there, that have merged Stats like as if you’d wear with them all 6 Accessoires and it simplifies makign your Character Build by having to click only for equipping that one item, instead of having to equip every single Accessoire.
So its just a system for more play comfort.

Stuff like that is always appreciated very much. Seeing, that something like this exists basically already in PvP, makes me wonder, why ANet hasn’t already came up with it, to make something similar as a QoL improvement for PvE with the Feature of being able to create out of marked items “Equipment Sets” to basically merge them asclong as you want into 1 single item to reduce that way the amount of Inventory Spaces, that get blocked.

Personally I like the idea behind sub classes ~ quoted from Chris Whiteside

+1 to the ideas,

I have been thinking about this idea for a while. The basics are the same as you describe in you posts.
When you are really diehard about you other build it can take up to 16 slots in your inventory (6 armour, 6 accessories and 4 weapons). I am all in for a one click equipement change but I personally think the reduction from 16 slots to 1 is a bit big.

My suggestions for a bundle are:

-have it use multiple slots make it an item which uses a maximum of 3 slots in your inventory. It behaves like a 1 slot item only use 1 or 2 extra slots, so double click and you change all your equipment. This still leads to opening up 13 extra slots.
-Have three seperate bundles one for each type of equipment armour, accessories and weapons which each use just 1 slot in you inventory. This gives you a bit more freedom to change just parts of your equipment instead of everything at once. However it will always be 3 slots in your inventory if you want a bundle for each type.

The acountbound suggestion from OP is great this would make it a quality of life upgrade for you and not a possibiltie to create greater storage space for stuff with which people want to speculate at the Trading Post.

You know I didn’t even think of the PVP trinkets, now that you bring it up I guess that is kind of similar to what we’re recommending. When I get home tonight I’ll see if I can photoshop some screenshots to further show the idea

I was thinking more of having a set for each equipment type. So 1 set for armor ( 6 items to 1) and another set for Trinkets ( 6 items to 1 ). So you would be trading bag space from 12 items down to 2.

I would prefer the Templating system from GW1 to ‘Bundling.’ This way I could potentially use the same pieces (amor / trinkets / weapons) across several set ups. This set up seems to ‘lock’ things together, unless I’m just reading it wrong. (Not enough coffee yet, still sleepy) This method would limit my flexibility of using perhaps armor set A with trinket set A or trinket set B as needed.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

The original intention was to have the sets of gear separate. So have Weapons as 1 set, Armor as another and Trinkets as another. This way you only want to swap out armor you can, or if you want to only swap out trinkets you can.

The idea is very similar to the template system in GW1 but rather than have it just as weapon set where you click F1-F4 to swap weapon sets it’s more in-depth and not only restricted to weapons themselves. Kind of like the PVP templates we had in GW1 without the naggy need to save templates to your HD.

They could even monetize it by selling the kit to bundle our gear. 400 gems to bundle 2 sets of armor, weapons, and trinkets to switch with a double click would certainly be worth it to me.

Ah, I see. A 1-click equip would be handy… ponders

Yeah, I was thinking of the pvp templates where you could save specific armor and weapon set ups. We could use the skill templates as well, at least the trait section of it to save various trait set ups. Could probably roll it all into 1 for GW2, since people will most likely run a specific trait set with a specific armor / weapon / trinket combo.

The saving to my HD wasnt a big deal for me, and wouldn’t be again if it meant they would be more likely to implement it. Having them saved outside of the game meant I could work with them without being logged in, even email them to a friend. There were several times where my husband grabbed them to replace his bc he had to reformat or whatever.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

My second suggestion is just what you are describing. 1 set for armour, 1 set of a trinkets and 1 set of weapons which are all seperate 1 slot sets.
When I play a Minionmancer on my Necro I use Cleric gear all the way even my weapons. When I want to play something else I also want to be able to change all my weapons with one click so that is how I came to 3 in my second suggestion
