Combos/Fields dont require skill?
sure there is nothing that require it, but will proper use you can make a lot of good use of it, stacking mights, swiftness, giving stealth to whole team or chaos armor to whole team aoe weakness etc etc etc, so used skillfully it certainly can make stuff easier to do
Easy to learn (or fluke), hard to master.
Having the foresight to set up and execute combo fields at the right time is a skill that few take the time to learn.
If care is taken, they certainly can add to combat. Teamwork is key
You can complete most of the game’s content without being a great player. However the great players (and the just darn good ones) make strong use of things like combo fields: a few “area mights” make all the difference for taking down dungeon bosses more quickly and in certain group fights (e.g. vs Tequatl).
Because there isnt any content in the game that requires proper combo/field use in the game.
There used to be but then Anet decided bypassing invulnerability on WvW camp npc’s with life steal wasn’t kosher and, well…
Pve content involves fire fields, it doesnt “require” them but it makes fights a lot shorter, though its less skill and more running the right build
Spvp might use a lot if a team has staff eles (do people do that anymore?) but its mostly things like d/d eles and warriors blasting their own fire fields for might, or engies blasting water fields, so again not a ton of teamwork involved, but they are used
Wvw seems like the place where they take the more skill/coordination, especially water fields, but I dont play wvw much so someone else could explain it better
It would be really neat if they were more important, or at least if the weaker ones (dark, ethereal, ect.) were more useful, but if youre suggesting future content literally require specific combo fields it would be a bad idea simply because it would restrict what classes you could run.

Maybe if anet made a separate skill slot for combo fields, people would use it more with skill….and made them more visually distinct from non-combo field skills…

The skill is knowing when to use it and how to take advantage of it.
They promote good synergy. Though I have a hard time remembering what all of them do. A spreadsheet for them would be great if such existed.

There’s a table on this wiki page that has them all:

In your opinion, does Combos/Fields require skill?
Because there isnt any content in the game that requires proper combo/field use in the game.
That kind of reasoning makes no sense.
In many MMORPGs you need specific gear in order to advance. Does that mean that gear grind requires skill? No.
The fact PvE does not require combo fields has nothing to do with the matter of if combo fiels would require skill or not. It has more to do with how PvE does not require skill at all.
I feel the field combos could use more work and versatility.

Light fields are largely worthless and most people want to avoid them.
Many of the bolt mechanics are so random/minuscule that it has no impact what so ever.
Projectile combos are a byproduct of masses of fields strewn across the ground, and what ever happens happens.
At most we look to have fire and water fields and people want to blast finisher them. A couple of leap finishers are useful, such as smoke for stacking of invisibility, but that is limited to thieves.
I would like all finishers to have much larger impact and used skillfully to push fights and have an awesome WOW effect from group utility. That is how they were sold, but I was less impressed when I played the game in the end.
