I know a lot has changed. I do not plan on getting the expansion for now.

Should I roll a new character and enjoy levelling?

Is there a best solo class? I’m planning on slow levelling, enjoying things, story, and absolutely NOT doing dailies/weeklies.

I will play when I want, I hate the daily system in every game.

What should I roll? I remember rolling a guardian, and to be honest it was boring. Low dmg, low hp, warriors would destroy me on PVP, I didn’t survive at all.

There are no weeklies and monthlies were eliminated. There is the a daily log in reward, but you don’t even need to do that daily (all progress is saved so if you can’t log in one day, it’s not a big deal.) There are dailies and if you like achievement points and random goodies you can do them, or not. Those aren’t really a big deal either. I skip them when I’m being lazy.

Easiest classes for leveling are warrior, ranger and guardian. But since you said you don’t like guardian, then try warrior instead. If casters are your thing, the easiest of those to level is necro.

ArenaNet just announced they are completely going to change how building our characters work. Acquiring and using traits and new skills will become completely different from what it is right now. You can read more about it here.

It would probably be better for you to wait until this new system is implemented before you return. They said it will be implemented before the expansion is released, and it makes no sense to return to the game and begin relearning how the current system works, only to have it be completely redone (and forcing you to acquire again traits and skills you already had) while you’re in the middle of the levelling experience.

Also the new system they are adding will be easier. And hi, you posted in the other rng and time gates thread!

You can wait to just deal with the current system and focus on getting to 80 and at least 65 out of the 200+skill challenges for when the change happens to keep nearly all of your traits and skills or do all the worldmap’s skill challenges minus Dry Top and Silver Wastes and WvW and get everything unlocked and then some for the expansion if you do decide to buy it n the future.

There is no need to get the expansion anyways right away either when it launches.

Cool, then gonna wait.

Just to make sure, is there any type of currency that you need to farm that is tied to daily log in?
Mostly because sometimes I don’t feel like playing and I don’t wanna feel like if I don’t log in I’m losing something HUGE.

Well, it’s hard to get a lot of laurels without the login rewards.

But the laurels are guaranteed for 2nd (1), 7th (10), 9th (2), 16th (3), 21st (15), 23rd (4), and 28th (20 or some other goodies see below) day for a total of 45 laurels.

28th day is however, a pick of stuff ranging from the 20 laurels to:

Permanent 2% increase to account gold find, and a choice of:
Vision Crystal and 1-2 refined ascended crafting materials
8 Obsidian Shards and 7 Mystic Clovers
20 Laurels
6 Tomes of Knowledge

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Login_rewards

Just log in when you can. It resets every 29th login (resets every day at 8 PM EDT 5 pm PDT) back at rewarding day 1’s but you don’t have to log in consecutively. It continues from the next login and never expires or resets your login rewards for missing a day.

I don’t even log in every day any more.

the “new player experience” is just a total nightmare. and makes lvling not fun at all. esp if you are used to the old system.

how ever it is worth playing your current toons because it only takes a few mins to get to grips with the class / game and u can always go to low lvl zones to learn the class again thanks to down scaling.

not much has really changed since a year ago. apart from some gemstore items etc. the real changes are going to happen over the next few months.

the trait system revamp will be here before the expansion.

also guildwars 1 and guildwars 2 expansions are not like other mmos. there is no lvl cap increase no gear resets or new tiers to be added. it will just be other ways to improve your character with out needing to grind new sets of gear.

so if u have the highest quality gear today (ascended) at the end of HoT expansion it will still be the highest quality , depending on the stats and how the meta works, but its a safe bet direct dmg will still be highly sought after (zerk, assasins etc)
