Commander Tag System Has No Limits
Right click join squad? Not hard
Well, maybe Anet wasnt wrong about 300? gold per color after all..
Right click join squad? Not hard
How is this even relevant?
The most annoying thing on map to me are all the caustic comments and rude remarks concerning commanders in general that are continuously posted in map chat. I can see that there are a bunch of commander tags on the map but do they affect my game play? No.
Anet could have tied colours to wvw ranks. There you go, problem solved, so simple.
Instead they did the normal kitten stuff they always do, so it’s rainbow doritos forever.
Besides that, it’s funny to annoy those people who get annoyed by commander tags in PvE, I mean really, you need someone to tell you were to stand?
We had a total of 6 minutes to burn; however when we returned from the battery event, this commander stayed in his position which was close enough to make people think that this was the stacking position for the burn; however, this wasn’t and I noticed this. People got sucked into the vortex and we failed the burn.
Don’t blame people for making you stand in the wrong place, you have a functioning brain, you can figure out where to stand on your own I’m sure.

I agree on the first and second parts of your post. In fact, to your first point, they could have tied commander tags to WvW rank from the start, making players have to get a specific rank to unlock the tag for use in all maps. It’s annoyed me from the start, but as said above, it doesn’t affect my gameplay. If there are too many for me to handle I’ll simply join the squad and tell the people in the squat my reasons for joining. So far they’ve been generally acceptable of players joining just to get the tags off the map.
And to your second point (in response to RGPrestige) I agree as well. If you already knew that you shouldn’t have stood in that position, the best thing to do would have been to tell the members of your squad/party that it’s incorrect. Best case they’ll agree and move, worst case you’ll have to retry the content again.

Why have a Commander pin in PVE it should be a PvP/WvW trait now using Guild markers for Guild events is a system they might explore and not allow the commander pin in PVE
Total noob bearbow rangers in PvP with them are pretty annoying…

If a commander has an empty squad, his tag should time out and go down after 60 seconds or so. This would give legitimate commanders a chance to form a squad and organize.(Which is what the tag is for after all.) Posers who only want a vanity tag would have to constantly tag up.(They should also be allowed a refund if they don’t like the change in functionality.) It’s not an ideal solution, but would probably help to significantly deter posers.
Colors for rank would get too complicated.(As well as different icons for rank.) I would suggest simply “qualified” and “unqualified” commanders. Unqualified commanders tags would only be an outline, so it wouldn’t be useful for obscuring items on the map. There would be some test for qualifying commanders. Once that test that was passed or achieved, the unqualified/lieutenant commander’s tag would become a full commander tag.

re: Commander tags have no place in PvE – Commanders are useful for organizing the more complex PvE events including temple events and the more difficult world bosses. Commanders do have a place in PvE.

Oh my: Commander tags rank bound: One of my favourite wvw commaders is somewhat 700 ranks below me and it would be unfair if he wasn’t able to use the tag he likes and the different colours serve a purpose: You usually have a “public” zerg on the map which anyone can join. Also a guild group who solved the problem of only one tag allowed by targetting their commander, if they wanted/want to target something else they’d lose the commander. If the main zerg defends something it can be handy to capture another objective, thus a red tag which is then joined by the yellow (guild) tag or whatever. And on my previous server it was really important to watch the tag in combat.
Commanders have no place in PvE: They do: If my screen is full of doritos there must be some world boss up – I usually find hunting world bosses really boring so I have no clue when they’re up. A bunch of commanders remind me.
Guess I’m just so used to a map full of commanders that I really don’t care anymore. If things are serious in wvw though I join a squad.
EDTA: Give them some time until tagging up 24/7 becomes boring. I’m pretty convinced that will happen.
