With the recent announcements on changes to costs for the commander tags, everyone and their siblings now seem to have them, and they are all enabled.

This has created the worst UI blight of any MMO I have seen. It’s on my minimap, it’s on my map and it’s on my screen. 20-30 Commander Tags at a low level PvE event is just ridiculous. These vanity plates need to be removed, at least from my view and the views of others who find the clutter ridiculous.

1. Graphics Option to only display Commander Tags from my server.
2. Graphics Option to only display Commander Tags from my guild.
3. Graphics Option to display NO Commander tags.

This is about a year and a half overdue, and now it’s necessity is rather obvious.

Hey dude you are walking into a wall.

I’d go one step further and put in an option for Qualified Commanders. As you can see, too many people just wanna jump in at the last minute while the tags are ‘cheap’, with no other qualification to command/lead than 100g to throw away.

Again, this is something else the game has to have implemented.

Not everyone is a bad leader with the tag though. I was just in WvW and someone was leading the group without a tag, then decided to buy one and we did really good with only around 20 people, despite being outnumbered. Of course there will be bad commanders, but the community should also give them a chance to learn.

I don’t have one.

I almost wanted to get one a few times, and now on seeing the tags getting colors, almost want to get one to begin working on being a secondary commander during WvW. Alas, then I sober up.

Anet noted briefly a system for the experienced and talented commanders will come.

I will be buying a tag pre-feature pack incase I rank further up in my guild and need to take control of guild missions. I would rather pay 100g now than 300g later. 100g is still a lot for most people, so I haven’t seen commander tags all over my map.

shrug but idk.

Sadly, Commander Tags very often only reflect the ability to farm cash, rather than any true ability to lead people on a map.

Perhaps a new rank needs to be implemented where Commanders have to be elected by other players…it would still be open to abuse, but might stop people who farm Plinx for an afternoon thinking they can give orders in WvW…

That’s what PvE commanding is though, doesn’t mean you can discredit it. PvE and WvW commanding shouldn’t be evaluated equally.

I don’t need to discredit the ability to repeatedly exploit a broken mechanic (plinx etc)…it does that on its own.

Temporary solution: Join a squad and you’ll only see one tag.

Yep. Being annoyed by multiple tags on the map? Click on one, join squad. The rest disappear leaving only the one you in a squad with.

I’d say Phinx is a minority, and does not take any other commanding than the tag showing it is active. I was referring more to leading people around a map (Dry Top in particular right now), organising world bosses such as Taco or the Wurm (and maybe more in the future, if they plan to revamp others or add new ones), and organising guild missions.

you don’t follow a tag. you follow the name of the commander.

I do agree that an option to disable seeing Commander tags (off by default) should be included to prevent the possibility of players just griefing in WvW or in town maps by just cluttering up the entire minimap with Commander tags.

I bought my tag a few days ago, but I haven’t even turned it on once. I bought it solely for the reduced price before it goes up to 300g, and also for the very rare occasion when I’ve been in a quieter EotM map and nobody was able to tag up. (It’s also helpful sometimes to lead newbie players to specific areas in open world maps when they can’t find something.)

That is the one reason I have been tempted to get a commander tag.

I’m only going to say this once so listen up.

Commander tags are nothing more then a vanity item. You don’t need them to lead or offer any type of real leadership for events. It is only something people use so others can follow them no matter what. If you don’t then ok but stop trying to belittle someone who wanted it because you wanted someone “qualified” to lead you in wvw. If your not in a wvw guild then join one to improve your game life. If your sick of looking at commander tags in pve when they maybe doing guild missions to increase success rate then go somewhere else.

While I’m not doubting a lot of people probably use them now, I personally haven’t seen more than 3 or 4 on the same map (and they were together, not scattered). So it really hasn’t been a bother to me.

The community can police this themselves. Commenting positively in map chat on commanders who do a good job (why does this almost never happen?), and requesting that people de-tag when not leading will go a long way. Make it socially unacceptable to have a tag up without contributing with leadership or guidance, but do so without abuse.

Good commanders have increased my enjoyment of the game a lot, and I have great respect for them. They deserve to know they contribute to the fun of the game.

Except squads have limits of 30. That limit needs to be lifted. Then we’re set.
