@Commanders
Reported for going AFK. lol…
Seriously though, there was once a Commander who stood still on a waypoint. No matter how much I clicked, it kept saying “Join Squad”. After 4 mins, the Commander moved and I realized something: the waypoint was contested. It had been contested all along. I could not see the cross swords on the waypoint because of the Commander icon.
So i’ll give you a costly hint. You want to waypoint, right?
Let’s say you are in Malchor’s Leap and a commander is standing on Lights Waypoint. Use any waypoint in Cursed Shores, then since you are now in another map, you will not see the commander in Malchor’s Leap. You can now use Lights Waypoint.
Or you can zoom the map. Works for me every time.

I hadn’t thought of that…but still, the question remains, why should I have to? Instead of paying to waypoint once, I am paying to waypoint twice in some cases.
I would think that it would be common courtesy to simply take a step off the waypoint before you AFK. It would also clear up whether the waypoint is contested or not. Kind of like it’s common courtesy not to stand in such a way as to completely cover an NPC, although that doesn’t seem to be a problem in this game.
And within hours, dozens of griefers bought commander tags…

Zoom in <——Zoom out’s tricky friend!
I am a commander myself, and I can honestly say I’ve never been the type of commander that reps the tag 100% of the time and afks in cities/maps/zones. However, I’ve seen commanders that waypoint and don’t move for about 5 minutes, and it bugs the crap out of me. I rep the tag only when I absolutely need to so people know where large scale events are.
Especially in this game, I’m noticing that people buy the most expensive thing in the game to display their wealth instead of their experience with certain aspects of the game. Therefore, the tags are basically handed to complete morons that have no idea how to use it, so they rep 100% of the time and afk with it.

So they’re the MMO equivalent of European sports cars…
Having a commander on/of toggle in the map legend would fix this.
So is it only me who gets it the other way around? If a commander is on a waypoint I see, and can select, the waypoint and not the tag.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I have always been able to click on a waypoint with a commander tag over it, while champ farming and in wvw.. Maybe this is only an issue for contested wp’s?
If you’re a commander and you go AFK in WvW or PvE you’re not a good commander period.
Slightly on topic, but can people who aren’t commanders also take a step outside of the waypoint when going AFK? T’is not fun teleporting into your mass of bodies…

It will defeat the purpose of the commander tag – to be seen across the map…
Hey, guys (and gals) I only wrote this because I was trying to do the fist part of the Mad King/Bloody Prince meta and there was some knucklehead that was parked on the waypoint. I warped to the southern waypoint and walked it, but I told him about my issue as I walked by. He was obviously AFK, and was still AFK when I finished that chapter and walked out.
Now, I may be one of the only ones who have this problem, and I will admit that it may be my graphics settings, but seriously, what harm can it do to take that one step off the waypoint? I even do it and I don’t have a tag to get in the way.
Lol, I have to remind my party members to do the same thing – step aside- as their little blue dot will cover the waypoint. My world map is always zoomed in as far as possible when I open it, though…I’m not sure that will help in some instances.

Sooo if I don’t want to follow commanders or if I don’t care where they are I should still have to see their tag? It’s not like a map toggle would remove it for everyone around you, just you. We can remove other things with a toggle anyway.

Not really. if you want to see the tag you can toggle them on. There really isn`t a need to see the commander tags unless there is an event where everyone needs to know where to rally to and who to follow. We already can turn off most of the icons on the map so a commander toggle won`t make big difference. Just another option available for people to use.
Double click it. Even though your mouse is over the commander tag, double click takes you to waypoint.
