Hello everyone,

I was reading through some Fire and Frost stuff and came across a note on potential changes to dailies I would like to comment on. The changes stated basically that you could choose which dailies you wanted to do. Personally, I like the way dailies are at the moment and for a few reasons think they should stay that way.

Initially the daily activity consisted of the same four categories: getting a certain kill count, killing a certain number of creatures, collecting a certain number of resources and taking part in a certain number of events. The type and number of requirements was always the same. When you keep things the same all the time you have only a certain amount of replayability before it gets “old.”

Currently, the daily requirements are random. Meaning that you may need to revive allies one day, but not the next. There is variety in this. Not only does this improve replayability by “mixing it up,” but it gives you a full variety and it is random. Yes, that means that some days you may get the one or two types of requirements which are not your favorite, but honestly that is in part what makes it so much fun. It also makes you appreciate the ones you do like more.

By allowing players to choose their own dailies, I’m assuming that people will typically choose their favorites. This in turn, will turn the system into something similar to the original system: the same type of requirements which will again reduce the relative replayability when compared to the random system. Now, I have not seen the new system or know in detail how it will work but that is my 2 cents. I worry (ever so slightly) that this will detract slightly from the game so I just wanted to mention it to see what everyone else thinks. I know Anet always puts a great deal of thought into their decisions and look forward to future updates!

Some of the current dailies are just downright annoying. I personally hate the healer one, it can be very frustrating depending on the zone you are in. I think it’s great that I will be able to ignore dailies like that and focus on accomplishing the ones that fit the zone I’m currently in.

Variety is great but when variety means that one day your daily will take you 30 minutes and the next day it takes you an hour it isn’t fun.

If players have a choice of dailies, there will still be variety in which 6 you have to choose 4 from. Also, once choice is in game, players seeking variety from day to day can choose to do different daily requirements. Choice doesn’t have to mean always doing the same ones.

I can’t get dodge to increment, it seems to happen at random but doesn’t register when I actually try to dodge in combat. So if it shows up as a requirement for the daily, I know that I won’t be able to complete it.

Dodge is easy….I don’t get why ppl don’t get it.

I can’t use the normal double tap to dodge cause my hands/fingers are kinda twitchy and it sometimes makes me jump off high places. Yeah…as in multiple times. Jumping puzzles…out.

But the daily is easy to me. Turn it on and get my dodges within a half hour, turn it off.

If I can do it….you can

I’d be happy to get rid of some of the more time-consuming dailies like kill variety, gathering, and events. I know that, depending on which zone you’re in, these can still go by at a decent rate, if I log on and play for only a short while, I don’t want to have to choose between doing a dungeon or doing my daily.

i would much rather be able to choose dailies. visiting laurel merchant and crafting is just plain stupid for example.

The dailies will still probably be random, there’ll just be more choices. Since you will get to pick the ones you want out of what is offered, they can add more specific dailies, such as complete 1 dungeon, complete 3 fractals, kill 5 players in WvW, kill 1 champion, etc – aka the ones people would normally complain about if they were forced to do it.

I agree with this…but…

The visit the laurel merchant you know is temp cause it’s new. And I agree with it being in dailies for the purpose of eliminating the “where’s da larel merchent?” spam.

Some others seem to get old though.

What I see is that no one will ever be happy with dailies though. Which I could care less….happens all the time in MMOs. Just do it cause it has a reward. So much complaining about easy tasks mostly.

But the daily is easy to me. Turn it on and get my dodges within a half hour, turn it off.

Nope, I can’t.

I can dodge, yes. I hit a key and my toon dodges. It’s easy. The thing is, the 0/20 count or whatever the Dodge requirement is for the daily, DOES NOT CHANGE. It doesn’t work. I can’t get the count to change by dodging. Then I go back and look at it an hour later and it says 3/20. I didn’t hit the dodge key, so I don’t know why it counted three dodges because I didn’t dodge.

Maybe it’s a bug, maybe I double-tapped and dodged without realizing it. But I have not been able to finish any daily that included Dodge but I have finished every daily that does not. So I’m looking forward to actually being able to complete the daily every day.

Believe me when I say…I feel ya

It’s about the mob….partially

If they would look at the mechanics behind dodge, they’d see what we do. But if you change mobs, you’ll get it.

Go for mobs that have a wind up. Centaurs have this, so do bandit scouts. Basically, it’s any mob that has an intro to their attack. Or any mob that has an AOE. It’s really about the mob right now, not the dodge.

That might be because it’s actually evasion that adds to the counter. You can dodge without getting an evade check, and you can evade without dodging, so it can be frustrating if you don’t realize that.

As for the OP, I assume the ‘choose your daily’ system will still be from a small set that randomizes daily, except it’s up to you to decide what ‘4 out of 6’ or whatever the requisite is.

Don’t like the dailies at the moment, they feel like job. Do this and that and then do this and that, all for a leaf of spinach. Just work the checklist off as quickly as possible, so that i can do the things i actually like to do. I think i will take a break until the WvW-patch.

Roll a thief. Go swimming, and learn all your spear skills. Skill #5, Shadow Assault, evades on attack. Use that skill to kill aquatic mobs, and you’ll finish your dodge daily in a few minutes.

I see. I play casually, and there are more classes than I have character slots. So I’ve been trying different race/class combos and deleting the toons that are less fun for me when I want to try something different. I didn’t have a thief when the daily requirements changed, but yesterday I freed up a slot and made one. I did notice that some of the attacks caused “EVADED” to flash on the screen or somesuch, but ironically the daily didn’t include dodging so I don’t know if that would have counted. Today it does include dodge so I’ll take my new thief out for a spin and see if I can get it done.

Heh, there is “dodging” to avoid being hit, and “dodging” to proc the “evade”. I get hit a lot more by Karka timing the dodge to actually get the evade than I do just dodging em naturally without worrying that it counts. It is kind of a phony daily, it only seems to count near misses rather than just avoiding damage. Other examples, dodging charge attacks, you have to wait, dodging 100 blade idiot AI wars you have to wait, dodging excavator burrow attacks, you have to wait.

You can dodge out of damage all day and not update. It is really “Evade 15 attacks” and that is a much narrower parameter not wholly dependent on dodging.

Ley lines. The perfect solution to deadlines and writers block. Now in an easy open Can.

When I can choose, I’ll probably stick with:

Daily Kills
Because it’s super easy

Daily Variety Kills
Because I enjoy roaming around looking for something fresh to kill for the day

Daily Dodger
Because just doing a Twilight Arbor dungeon run will get you those evades

Daily Crafting
As a way to consistently level my crafting, that I’m always procrastinating from

Daily Events
Because if I don’t, I won’t ever finish my Monthly. lol

I want to stay away from: Daily Gathering because it makes me feel like I’m on a quota, when I enjoy gathering everything in sight anyway; Daily Veteran Slayer, because I feel this pressures me too much to go to a spot where there’s a ton of Veterans; Daily Healer because it makes me start seeing corpses as numbers… Not something I should consider helping. :/

“Bleeding, Poison, Confusion, Torment, they all look delightful on you.”

Lv80s: Guard, Thief, Necro. Renewed my Altaholic’s card on the HoT Hype-Train. Choo choo~

I do my dodging daily once by fighting Embers and voluntarily dodging right into the fire font they create. I heard it’s even better if you get those flame thrower wielding charrs and dodge while they spray it at you. You can easily get 7-8 “dodges” per dodge.

I haven’t had too much difficulty getting any of the daily requirements. Here is what I do for my dailies:

Kill Variety – Back when this required more than 15 types, if I wanted to get them all quickly (less than 10 to 15 min) I ported to Overlake Haven. I’d run east to the Destroyer area, then up the river to take you to the vista overlooking the village by the floating castle killing each type of monster along the way. If I remember correctly, if you got the hawk by the castle and the raptor there were at least 17 different enemy types.

Daily Kills – If you’re actually killing things while you play you shouldn’t have trouble getting this without extra effort.

Daily Veteran Killer – In the southern shores of Southsun Cove there are Veteran Sea Scorpions all over. You can kill 5 easily here.

Underwater Kills – The nice thing about this is that it applies for anything you kill with your aquatic weapon set out: even critters. There are tuna all over the place in the southwestern part of Southsun Cove.

Dodger – If this is the daily, I aim to get at least one dodge per enemy. This way I can still do it casually but am assured of getting the requirement. My favorite place for this again is Southsun Cove. The Young Karka attempt to shoot you with 5 bolts of web when they first attack, if you dodge just after they notice you, you can get 2 or 3 dodges.

Healer – The reactor in Metrica Province is full of corpses to heal.

Visit Laurel Vendor – This is more of a chore than a challenge.

Daily Crafter – I typically turn 10 basic raw materials into refined materials (eg – copper ore to ingots).

As you can see, I do a lot in Southsun cove. However, there are lots of other places that offer the same types of benefits. Also, instead of trying to do all of these on one character I do some on one and some on another (or a couple more). That way I save on the map travel, spread out the xp and get it done fast.

Something I read from Anet implied that there will be even more randomness/variety to the dailies options now. Before they had to make them more general since you had to do all of them to get you reward….. now that you can pick and choose they can start adding more categories to the rotation like completing jumping puzzles and such. And they mentioned at some point having unique rotations for every day of the month rather than every day of the week. I believe this was all from an interview someone did on a website.

I wouldn’t worry about them becoming too stale for awhile.

Wait, we’re saying that, if given the choice, players might choose to do the dailies that they enjoy the most?

EGADS! The horror!

I honestly will never understand some people’s preoccupation with opposing the right of other people to decide for themselves what they think is fun.

They said that the new system will allow them to be more specific in Daily requirements (like zone-specific kills, or jumping puzzles, or something that a lot of people find difficult/challenging).

I’m sure a lot of people will try to complete-them-all every day, since we’ll eventually have a system for rewarding achievement points…

I don’t think it will be a problem OP, they’ve commented that if anything the dailies will be MORE random than before, including some pretty specific stuff now. I think it’ll be fun, but I’m sure somebody will get bent out of shape over SOMEthing..

@dodgers – if I’m feeling lazy I just log onto my ranger and autoattack with my greatsword..
