Hey there. I started gw2 a year after launch and played it pretty hardcore until HoT came out.
I tried HoT and i hated it (PvP wise) and i quit the game. I tried getting into it a few times since then but now with the new xpac comming out i want to actually play gw2 again.

My problem is, all i do is basically pvp and i dont know any of the pve content of HoT at all.
What is there to do? Are fractals/raids profitable to make some gold? Should i bother trying to level that whole mastery system?
And… How do i have fun in the game other than pvping now days?

Thanks!

Start with the story, I think it is really fun. And as you are traveling the map, just do the events for fun. You’ll level mastery stuff in no time.

Also, each HoT map has a map wide event. Feel free to find a group, they usually call it out in map and join it! I really like them personally.

Best way to play GW2 imo, is don’t necessarily have a goal, just explore and find stuff to do. If you feel you need a goal, definitely follow the story, and everything will fall into place with that.

Some of your question is really subjective so it makes it hard to answer. That said, if you like the player versus player because of variety that humans add over AI do you WvW? If so WvW has become a game mode that isn’t just a gold sync now and you still get to fight others. You also get to use HoT classes but not do HoT PvE since you can take WvW currency to unlock masteries from the HoT PvE zones.

For the PvE side, were you previously running HoT solo or with group or guild. If solo when you get back in game see if you can find a guild. Seeing more people coming back and re-running HoT as they wait for PoF so you might find a different experience now than then.

Fractals, well the goal of fractals is to do more fractals. But yes the loot there is still pretty good as well, but time to gold, I think WvW might be better now but haven’t run hours comparison to prove or deny.

Welcome back and good gaming!

What is your end game? “How do I have fun?” is such a poorly phrased question, that lends me to believe that you’re looking for justification to force yourself to do something you don’t enjoy, rather then being open to trying to find enjoyment of it.

Personally I don’t like sPvP enough to it regularly….. but I know why I don’t like it. Skill division in the lower ranks are too chaotic, I’m not good enough to compete in the higher ranks, and the rewards don’t translate to PvE enough to be worth getting into other then wanting competitive play. Its still enjoyable for a change of pace; but inevitably turns to frustration the moment I take it even the least bit seriously.
On the other hand, I love WvW since team comps benefit from a greater diversity of builds, I can get far more mileage out of Support play (which I’m better at anyway), and the community there is nowhere near as “intense” as sPvP.

Aside from Especs, everything about the expansions is PvE content. Since PvP and PvE combat operate on vastly different principles, if you’re hoping for some glint of familiarity between the 2 modes… you’re not gonna find it. So the only recourse is be open to an entirely new game experience, and draw enjoyment from having to relearn combat strategy from the ground up. PoF won’t be different in this regard either.

Honestly, you’re better off focusing on a game thats strictly PvP, since you’ll have more luck finding something better tailored specifically to that style of play.
