I have started to notice that more and more people are turning constructive posts into rage filled off topic railings about how either the OP has been cheating and deserves to be banned or that it just isn’t fair that the OP came up with other ways to enjoy the game. This turns even the most helpful thing’s into ignored refuse because people start to avoid these threads and thus the community falls apart.

On the other hand I have noticed that players are starting to pull together more in game looking for solutions to difficult problems and working as a team to overcome the challenges they face. Which is absolutely thrilling. People asking if anyone needs help and being constructive brings those participating closer together and the community grows.

Am I going crazy or have things really gotten this bad on the Forums and Improved that much in game?

Just remember it only takes about 30 people to turn a forums into a mess and that there are certain :ahem: vested parties that are less than thrilled with this game’s success.

Gladly the those that on the forums are a minority. Many have admitted they either no longer play or have ever played the game.

You are correct that most of the helpful threads soon become polluted by the a fore mentioned people that “contribute” to these forums.

Unfortunately this is the only venue given to us by Anet to offer our input into the game. But as I said at the start; the forums are only a minority of where Anet gathers its input, which I am thankful for.

All we can do is still try to give good feedback and suggestions to them. Maybe in time those that seek to get their cheap thrills will move on and allow the forums to become what they are meant to be.

But i would not hold m breath for it to happen soon.

You’re witnessing selection bias!

People who are enjoying themselves in-game are likely to stay in-game and help others enjoy themselves too.

People who are enjoying themselves so little that they exit the game are likely to come to the forums to voice their dissatisfaction with whatever is bugging them.

Aside; my server’s been really great so far this month in-game too. It’s been a blast

I have noticed this too OP.

It seems like just lately the forums are even more a look into the abyss than usual, while ingame it is a whole different story.

People seem to be getting their groove in the game and communities are forming with great humour and in general are very laid back.
New people are helped and encouraged and welcomed.
Vet players are having fun and helping each other.

It is like a different world in game- instead of QQ about something you will see people offering solutions, workarounds or just help.
I almost never see a negative comment ingame.

community on forum is usually more informed and it cares more for the game to the point of discussing it to improve it….(not that they are infallible or can t be biased)
Even reporting a balance issue is useful because the hardest part of fixes is identifying the problem itself….once you know the problem the fix is easy.

There are then some players that like to troll and just wave personal attacks and just try to discredit people….that are the most negative forum population…..they don t add nothing they just make diffucult to discuss game issues.

People who don t follow the forum are either casuals that will swap game way before even thinking of complaining…(that are important too…)
or are just tired of trolls

GW2 balance:
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

Coming from a different game this forum still looks relatively friendly to me… ^^’

But well, it is just the minority of the people on the forums, some people probably don’t even know of the forums.
I personally come here to check for updates, suggestions, lore, theories and give my input every now and then. Like now…

pretty much every video game forum is just a huge whine and rage fest. Like others have said, happy players are in game, and when they get off for the night, they don’t even think about going on the forums. If they have a question, they’ll ask it in game or go to the wiki. kitten players want to vent so they get on the forums in hopes that people will listen and rage with them. I also play Planetside 2, an FPSMMO and my god the rage and whine on their forums is insane, yet in game the community is humming along as usual.

I’m in a weird spot, i’m happy with the game yet I work during the day and often finish my work early so i’m left to browse the internet….and here I am lol

Kind of. Those who enjoy the game are happy to spend their time playing. Those who don’t are happy to move on to something else they will enjoy. It’s the malcontents who come here and try to convince everyone else to be as miserable as they are.

To answer your exact question I would have to say: ‘crazy’. The forums have been fairly stable since the Great Schism back in November of last year. No changes here to speak of.

In game, since the 4/30 patch there are decidedly fewer instances of people pulling together to solve the challenges they face—at least in Orr. I am on an excellent server with a reputation, historically, for keeping the temples open (well, except Balthazar—that ones pretty much closed everywhere). No longer. Orr, since 4/30, is pretty much a fail-fest with increasingly discouraged players. It is far more common, in game, to see someone cursing Anet than anything like pulling together to solve a challenge. This is a disturbing new trend and I hope that Anet fixes Orr once and for all. They made a step forward in January, but have taken many steps back since.

So, I would have to disagree with this OP.

I must not be reading the same forums as you, as I have not seen this occuring.

I’ve seen it.

It is more negative then positive

and when someone tries to inform/educate/suggest they are shot down.

Also there are those that don’t look through the past thread to see if their suggestion has been posted before. Prime examples: Mounts and dueling. There are tons of these threads.

but back on topic. More and more flaming, derailing of topic and things of this nature are more commonplace.

Since the game is B2P, even if they no longer play the game, they can still come here to “share” their feelings till the end of their days.

Well, if you follow the OP’s posts, they made a topic not so long ago about actively farming the crab toss event and they got some negative feedback about it. It pays to check someones post history. I suppose the op is upset because someone either accused them of exploiting, or not following the spirit of the event.

You have to remember that most people that use forums have been active forum-goers for a long time, and have been on forums like reddit, 4chan, etc. And in those places you get ripped apart if you make the slightest grammatical error, or out of place suggestion. So people on forums are often edgy by nature. A lot of people go on those forums because they feel better by insulting others.

The actual community of people here that only use forums for GW (like myself) is very small. Most people just see this as another place to flex their ego.

Now on the contrary, people that don’t go on forums tend to get their fill of social interaction by directly dealing with people. And in direct interaction, you can’t be a mean person and just hide behind your screen, laughing. These are the kinds of people that will actively engage you in game and help you out. They are there because they enjoy making others feel good, while “forum trolls” enjoy making others feel bad.
