Hello,
Do you remember the time, when Guild Wars 2 has to come out and Anet promised that it will be free from grind? I’m really disappointed. I’m talking about all the competitive achievements and i know that i don’t have to do that, but it’s the most interesting thing for me in Guild Wars 2 but CMON! 1,000,000 Caravans Destroyed, 500 Keg recoveries, Eliminate 1000 other survivors etc.? Are you serious? It’s so boring but Anet did nothing about that. Still it’s “free from grind”, but i don’t know if we have been lied about that or Anet thinks that is not grind? As a player and fan of the Guild Wars series, I would like to reduce requirements for achievements, but what i can do? So what do you think about that? It’s good? You wanna grind more? You wanna spend years to achiev your goal? I don’t. Anet please think about that in next patch, because in the previous one where we got “WvW Fall Tournament 2014” was very clever (applause for originator), all achievs in the “Competitve” should be like that. (Sorry for the spelling, I’m not fluent in English)

Even Guild Wars 1 had optional grind. And that stuff you’re talking about…it’s optional grind. You won’t get more powerful playing Keg Brawl by getting that achievement. You’ll eventually get more achievement points no matter what you do.

This isn’t quite what Anet was saying when they said there wouldn’t be grind in the game. I’m afraid you may have misinterpreted.

They did say we don’t make grindy games. They also said there would be stuff to grind for for people who like that play style.

This game was never meant to have required grind.

What they actually said is you wouldn’t be required to grind.

You’ll never reach a point in GW2 where your only option to gain XP and level up is to kill enemies in the same area over and over again, or where you need new equipment so you have to run the same dungeon over and over hoping the right piece will drop.

They never said there would be no need to repeat activities at all in the entire course of playing the game.

So You guys think this is normal? You know how much time it takes to get this achievs? Even if there is grind but why you have to spend on it hundreds/thousands hours to get it…?

Sure, why not. Some achievements are for dedicated players. GW2 isn’t the first game to implement ridiculous achievements.

You know how much time it takes to get this achievs?

Why does it matter? Pretend it doesn’t exist. If you’re trying to be competitive and someone else has the achievement whereas you don’t and that’s what’s setting you apart, they deserve it. Some people like those types of achievements because the 99.9% will never obtain them so it makes them unique.

No I don’t think it’s normal. I think it sucks.

But you’re complaining about grind. The real complaint is the achievements are badly balanced. They’ll be a grind though.

There has to be an acceptance that not all achievements are going to be doable or at least doable without significant time investment. I would love to get many of them, but Im not prepared to put time into grinding gold for black lion weapons. That’s fine – those achievements aren’t aimed at me in which case – there needs to be ones catering for all types of players, including those who like grind (yes there are plenty of players who do)

There is nothing which you “need” to grind for here and achievements shouldn’t just be handed on a plate anyway (wvw 2014 went too far imo, but they said that was just a trial so I expect that to change next time).

There are problems with many of the achievements, esp collectables, but grind I wouldn’t say is necs a big one

^This. It’s been two years, and I’ve never seen a soul with the “Yakslapper” title. One million. Really?

Take a look at this article where this guy estimates how long it would take to get this achievement. Now I know achievements are for dedicated players and all, but this is absurd. And that goes for all the “do one million of this” achievements.

I’m not much of a competitive player, but I can see why players get frustrated with insane goals like this.

I don’t mind it, people need something to do after 2 years of no new content.

That’s what I’m talking about… In my opiniom It’s reckless. I think it’s time to let Anet know about that problem not throught forum but maybe send them your link in mail or something luk? that because it’s weird that they don’t do anything abot that since the game starter. Thanks for your opinion guys.

A WvW Dev posted some ages ago that they already “know” the issue about the WvW Achievements. However they haven’t done anything about it -yet- for reasons unknown.

Having achievements that require dedication like the Slayer achievements or Weapon Master achievements, Agent of Entropy, Fractal/Dungeon runner etc, is good, because after some time you WILL get them -people already have those-, but some Achievements require a silly amount of time, like a few YEARS to finish the WvW Achievements, or I don’t know how much time to get Giant slayer or Shield Weapon Master.

You’re upset about Achievements requiring grind? What???

You want the achievements to require less effort to achieve? Sure some of them are stupid like Yakslapper, but the idea of achievements is to be a long term goal that almost definitely will require grinding.

Anet never said there would be no grinding, it was no grinding to progress basically. Completing achievements has absolutely nothing to do with progression. You can level 1-80 and outfit yourself in full Exotic gear without grinding. Beyond that you are on your own and grinding is almost a certainty. That’s every MMO.

Again someone misinterprets the original comment Anet made about Grind.

They did not say there would be no Grind.

They said you would not be FORCED to do Grind….and you are not. Nothing in this game that requires significant (if any) Grind, is required to continue playing the game.

In a very simplistic sense, players fall into 3 groups regarding Achievement Points.

  1. Those who don’t really care about them. The rewards are nice, but getting a reward chest is just a bump in the road. AP just naturally accrue as they do stuff they enjoy.
  2. Those who like chasing stuff. This group likes gaining AP because it gives them a sense of satisfaction, and because they derive their fun by chasing long-term goals. AP accrue as they pursue them, because that’s what they enjoy.
  3. Those who want them for whatever reason, be it the reward, the number shown to other players (bragging rights, such as they are) or any other reason, but who do not enjoy the process of getting them.

AP were put into the game primarily for group 2. Group 3 is likely to view AP accrual as grind. However, these players are choosing to pursue something that was put in for a different demographic. The litmus test is, “If it doesn’t feel like fun to chase AP, then you’re not in the group AP was aimed at.” To lose that sense of grind, all you need to do is master the compulsion to pursue something that’s making you miserable.

Apologies if someone feels this analysis left their group out, but I did say this would be simplistic.

Very well put. I’m group 2. OP is group 3.
