Hey there, as allways some people are not happy that they simply were not mailed their 6 Ascended items of your choice with this new patch.

Why should I have to work for something when they said it was no gear grind blabla. We have all seen it, maybe you agree or maybe not.

I just wanted to tell you, look back to the week you started playing. How awesome woudn’t it be to have these laurels and such then? By the time causual players level to 80 they can get a Ascended item for simply just having fun with the game.

But now alot of you people are whining that you HAVE to PLAY the GAME for 20 days to get a piece of Ascended gear. I just don’t get whats wrong with everyone. You seem to want everything handed to you on a pillow.

What’s next, moving your mouse over mobs kills them so you don’t have to press your skills?

Have fun playing the game, if you don’t why play?

but i do have fun, i have fun exploring, chatting with people, doing dungeons.. but the problem is the limit on it, its a daily limit so i can’t have it any sooner if i try any harder? well that sucks.. if i play for 16 hours a day vs a guy who logs on to play 1 hour a day just for dailies, we’ll still get the same ascended gear at the same time.. that i don’t really fancy..

I partly agree, partly disagree. My main thought is – you can get 1 ascended gear item in 20 days (~50-60 days for all 3) by doing 30 minutes of work a day on my daily. I kind of wish you could at least half that time by doing 1 hour of work a day…

Leaving aside the whole operant conditioning aspect of the new dailies…

Casuals, by definition, only have <10 hours per week to play, and often this means < 1 hour per day. Dailies take > 1 hour per day to complete. See the problem?

As a casual player, the first thing I have noticed is I’d need to spend close to 100% of my game time grinding the daily in order to complete it in a day/gaming session, not to mention the last thing I want to do with my gaming time is spend it doing stuff I’m not interesting in.

I have absolutely no qualms with the Laurels or Ascended gear. I’m actually enjoying the addition of both alongside the drama they bring as I really like my drama; specially when it’s sourced from a bunch of buffoons (Third infraction here I come!) who have no idea what they’re talking about.

Laurels: Way I see it is that we have this neat new system that gives out a much better reward than the daily system before it. Save that extra reward came with a greater challenge, some finding it annoying. Now I do agree that some of the new dailies were not necessary, but you can easily do them in WvW, etc. The other issue seems to be being given a few less Ks of experience a day.

Though I’m not complaining at all. As said, they added an awesome reward system, made it harder to do dailies and int he process they removed some of the experience you get from doing them. Boohoo.

Ascended gear: Ascended gear was intended for helping players go further and further into the levels of FotM, specifically designed to have infusions for Spectral Agony. However, these items have ‘slightly’ better stats. So people thing they’e been ripped off. Some idiots complaining that this somehow affects PvP and other screaming that it gives an unfair advantage in WvW small gang lolfare and 1v1s (No, no it doesn’t).

Though now we have utility infusions for the amulets; which give you extra gold, karma, etc. And if you’re lame enough to purchase the cheaper utility infusions; you get +7 to one of your stats. Personally these only affect PvE aspects and are fine by me.

The only thing you could argue that gives an advantage in WvW is the backpacks (The books and other things) as they have large ranged stats and are pretty ficken cool; so everyone wants one but they’re actually difficult to obtain as you need to go into the fractals to actually get them. Only confliction.

Grinding the daily? Well if you do not have time to do a daily I think you should not expect to get the highest tier of gear in a flash.

The new gear grind isn’t fun, if I wanted a gear grind I’d play WoW.
I’ve basically quit playing GW2 because of the Laurels. It’s very clear to me ANet can’t think of or doesn’t have the manpower to implement things that aren’t a grind.

Sorry, I’m done with grinding. I did a lot of it in EverQuest and WoW; it’s old and boring and I’m tired of it now and I won’t waste my time on it.

You don’t need end game gear to experience anything unique in PvE. You may have a point with WvW, depending from which PoV you are looking, but ascended gear is completely optional at the moment. If you don’t think the price is worth the additional stats, you’re free to spend your time playing for something else, like a kitty tonic, or a legendary.

- Awesome? Just what about them is awesome? Here, you can have this candy once a day, but only if you complete this list of tasks that I’ve presented for you. Kill 50 monsters. Go see the laurel merchant. Go gather 30 items of harvest. Go and wait until 10 NPCs die and then resurrect them. Good boy, here’s your one laurel. Gather thirty of these laurels and then I will give you the max stat item that you’re after.

I’m not sure what about it is ‘awesome’. I do have daily job that pays me actual money. I can spend that money to buy fantastic stuff and services. I don’t need a second job on my free time.

I don’t mind playing the game for my Ascended gear.

How about, “Ascended Gear in WvW”?

Man, what a concept. Equal rewards for playing the game my own way!

But we can’t have that.

Dailies do not take an hour to finish. My daughter is 13 and plays and has about hour a night of freetime. She knocks out the daily in 15 mins, if that.

You can get them all really fast in Wayfarer Hills. Maw is up every 20 mins, there are vet mobs, there is underwater mobs etc etc.

She is the definition of casual player. She has 80 elementalist and 46 guardian and when she WANTS (ie she does not log in everyday) she does the daily in 15-20 min tops.

These people that say an hour to do a daily? That is a flat out lie unless you are not even putting effort into doing it.

That is exactly the mind state i have come to detest within MMO culture.

‘I AM L33T. EVERYONE ELSE IS NUB, I PLAY ALL MY LIFE. HOW DARE YOU HAVE SIMILAR POWER GEAR THAN ME.’

You shouldnt really be playing this game sir, and its folks like yourself that meant ascended came in the first place.

How about the amount of gold you have vs the people who login just to do dailies… Theres your advantage over casual players right there kitten de kitten derp.

If they would’ve just allowed not only FOTM, but also W3, World Events (Karma), and maybe crafting as other ways to get this stuff, I think a high percentage of the complaints regarding ascended gear would be non-existant…but like you said…we can’t have that. I mean, it didn’t work with exotic gear did it. :/

What I don’t understand is the choice in cost for rings vs. amulets. It makes no sense that an amulet, being statistically superior to an individual ring, costs 30 laurels whereas a single ring costs 35. Unless, of course, we assume that the developers are trying to force us into fractals with this nonsensical pricing system. Super.

Now from what I understand, there will be more methods to acquire these ascended items. I sincerely hope this is the case, because I have no interest in fractals. I do, however, have an interest in 10% higher stats for the rest of the game and don’t feel like grinding away in a game mode which I do not like for the sake of these better statistics which will someday almost certainly be necessary to actually be effective.

I partly agree, partly disagree. My main thought is – you can get 1 ascended gear item in 20 days (~50-60 days for all 3) by doing 30 minutes of work a day on my daily. I kind of wish you could at least half that time by doing 1 hour of work a day…

I was thinking the same thing the other day. For some reason it’s acceptable to repeat the same fractal levels over and over and over for rings, but it’s not available for me to complete my daily 10 times one one day for more laurels or something? I’d rather do it that way than suffer through PUG fractals, to be honest. Picking my poison. >_>

I think you are half correct.

The pricing does seem odd but I think its due to the fact that Anet arer looking at the whole picture.
Rings can be purchased through multiple avenues now. Fractals and dailies, where as amulets can only be purchased with laurels.
It would then make sense to have amulets cheaper, promoting efficient players to play fractals for rings.

Otherwise they would be alot more complaints surronding the cost. Where as alot of people have accepted fractals as the shortcut, and one you can use to gear up your toon at the same time as dailies for amulets.

idk, I attribute all the laurel complaints to two things…

1. It’s not traditional to offer the best in game items for such a small amount of effort over a period of a few weeks. Most MMO’s make them exclusive by requiring crazy time commitments and/or high drop rarity. Hardcore players want that exclusivity.

2. We’ve got rather high expectations of the updates for the first 3 months of the year, and Laurels are pretty much the only thing we’ve seen so far with the first 3 months of the year 40% over with.

Edit: I suppose I should add, I love the laurel system and now that I’m older with a kid and a job, I think hardcore MMO players are certifiably insane, and having been one, wish GW2 would have existed 10 years ago so I could have spent more time outdoors!

Problem is, some of us hate fractals and the method for getting the ascended rings by not playing fractals literally takes MONTHS for more than one character, with no way to speed up this process, no matter how much effort you’re willing to put into it. What’s more, laurels spent on rings can’t be spent on amulets.

It feels like some sad attempt to get me to play longer (not actually more), when honestly I’d be more willing to play a game that doesn’t try to funnel me into a specific mode of play or force me to wait for nearly a month for a single piece of gear.

I’ve put something like 1400 hours into this game since launch…it just blows me away that the only progress I can make towards an ascended ring at this point is 15 minutes worth of play a day with the use of that reward being directly at odds with getting a different piece of gear, or else play a game mode I really don’t like.

These people that say an hour to do a daily? That is a flat out lie unless you are not even putting effort into doing it.

That’s an over-the-top statement, considering you have no way of knowing what zone the player is in, what server, and most importantly what zone they are in. Sure, you can find lots of everything in the beginner zones, but what about those who are in the mid-zones? Good luck finding 5 Vets, say, in Bloodtide Coast in any kind of time frame unless you’ve memorized the zone. Maybe some folks don’t want to have to go to WFF or QD to complete the daily. That just might be part of the complaints about having to go out of your way to finish them.

I don’t have a problem with doing the new dailies, but I do see both sides of the issue. People do not have to be lying if they say it took them longer to do a daily than your daughter, they just have to be playing elsewhere.

can someone tell me what do I need Ascended gear for? I mean, I’m already doing all the content as is, and I’m doing without a single piece of ascended gear. As far as I’m concerned, the only place I’d need Ascended gear is Fractnal level 20+, and let’s be honest here, if I’ve done the dungeon 20 times already I should be able to get a few ascended pieces, right?

Everyone has been waiting for this new Ascended gear for awhile now.

Its now released. Usually when something is released it is immediately available for use.

This is not the case and I fins it very strange. Dangling amulets in front of everyones face for 3 weeks and having no other way to get it but 1 laurel day by day.

Thats where the problem is. Bad idea in my opinion. New items should be available the day they are released.

In other MMO’s, at least some of the BiS gear drops from raid bosses. So, say the gear piece “you” want drops from Boss X — along with 5-6 other things — but he only drops 2 per kill. It didn’t drop? Too bad. It dropped? Great. Now, how many in the raid want it? Just you? Congratulations! Others do, too? Is your group using DKP or RNG rolls? Now, are you lucky? Do you have more DKP? You are, or do? It’s yours. In other words, if you pass all those hurdles, the item is yours. If not, come back next week, with no guarantee you’ll get it then either.

So, of the two time gates, which would you rather have?

I’m pretty sure that no time gate is what you are asking for. However, that is not a good idea for any game’s longevity.
