Complete downtime during peek oceanic times?
Kittens happen. Might I recommend watching a movie during the downtime? It’s what I intend to do!
At least its not another one-time welfare precursor spewing event which working class oceanics cannot attend…
I can understand from time to time that maintenance needs to be done on servers, what I don’t understand is I thought the design of GW2 meant there would be no “downtime”.

ArenaNet aims to get to a situation where most gamers never see a “down for maintenance” message while playing Guild Wars 2.

Quote from Colin Johanson
We hope you go your entire lifetime of the game with Guild Wars 2 and never see the message “Guild Wars 2 is currently down for maintenance”.
I bolded the important semantic bits. They never promised that downtime would be non-existent, but rather stated that they hope there will be as little downtime as possible. Downtime is always going to affect someone’s prime-time. They set it during a period that is convenient for them, being on the west coast of the US and all.

What are you Oceanic folks peeking at, anyhoo?
On a serious note, I’m trying to determine if this is in fact the first time we’ve seen maintenance requiring a period of some hours. Seems like it is but I can’t recall.
And on an interesting note, another game I play will be going down at the exact same time for a maintenance period of 12+ hours. However, they need it badly. As my Asuran mesmer has been wont to say, I thought that was interesting.
