I have never messed around with leading a guild in GW2, it was never anything i really cared to worry about. I was in LA reading chat and the conversation went to having a “pocket guild” as a way to increase bank slot space. So after a few questions i had asked were answered i made my own guild.

Yay bob, you must be thinking?

The meat of the problem is i recently decided to move to another server. I felt the one i was on was lacking the play style i wanted . I wanted to do this before Guesting was implemented and was still free. So i make the plunge and woot i am on my new server.

And then when i run to LA and the guild vault i had so painstakingly created and filled with goodies and hard fought gold, i was assaulted by the fact that ALL of it was gone, no items, no gold, no influence.

No warning, like “Proceeding with server transfer will remove all items, currency, and influence gained on current server” NOTHING to warn me i might have just made a gigantic mistake.

Oh sure, you all might say, Dradiin, you are dumb, why didn’t you read about it on the forums. Or what ever other kind of burn or slight you might fit into here. How am i supposed to know there is an issue with this situation prior to it happening ?

This needs to be remedied so others who might have alot more players to be affected by this, are warned away from this decision.

If i had even the slightest knowledge of this happening, would i have proceeded to do this ? NO.

I am a 1 person guild, what happens to those guilds with 100+ why is this oversight even here without it not being addressed MONTHS ago.

It doesn’t remove all those things, those things just stay in the vault on the server you WERE on.

People have been making posts about the fact that influence and such things don’t transfer with you for a while now.

You didn’t lose anything, your guild upgrades, influence and bank contents are waiting for you on the server on which they were earned/unlocked.

All those elements are on a per-server basis.

Well unfortunately; he should have done some research before switching. Now he only has 8 days until transfers aren’t free.

But I mean….you can still transfer every 7 days. So he could potentially still transfer over, grab his stuff, and switch again before it’s not free.

You might also be able to get it back if you guest on that server when that comes out. I’m pretty sure it uses your guild stuff from the server you guest on.

No, he won’t be able to get his stuff and switch again before it’s a paid feature. Remember, he’s gotta wait 7 days before going back, then another 7 to transfer to his “new home”, which is unfortunately 6 days after the paid transfer date starts

My problem is not that i have to transfer back…. its the fact that there is no WARNING prior to making the decision to do this.

No not everyone decides that the logical conclusion of an action taken in game is STUPID or BROKEN or even UNDOCUMENTED.

Do you go to the forums and search for posts about what will happen when you switch from one weapon set to another ? NO, and why would you ? You along with 99% of the rest of us go under the logical assumption that everything will be fine.

Apparently logic escapes certain individuals who create some of the games systems.

If this is a natural game mechanic, why is there nto a simple popup notifying the user of the consequences of this ? If a guild leader is transferring servers would it not behoove Arenanet to have a simple script that pops up when this is attempted ?

Why is this too much to ask ?
Why am i the one int he wrong here ?

The only mistake you made is not having an understanding of how guilds function in GW2. This is a rather common mistake because it is different from how most games orchestrate guilds. Guilds exist outside of servers and are available to any player on any server, but all upgrades, influence, active buffs, guild vault, etc are server specific.

There is no warning because technically nothing in your guild changed. Your guild didn’t transfer to the new server. Guildes are game-wide and don’t exist on only a single server.

Ok even with the knowledge of this, how does this negate the fact that there is no warning about this happening prior to a server change ?

Am i asking for something that is too difficult to do ?

I don’t understand what warning you want to be honest…

They didn’t do anything but move your character from one server to the other (which is exactly what you wanted). Nothing with your guild changed.

No offense but the warning are there…it’s called research. The FAQ and the Wiki both confirm this information and I was able to find it on both sites in less than 1 minute flat.

Lesson to others…if you’re going to do something as drastic as transfer a character in a person guild then read about the specifics before doing it so there’s no surprises. It’s all there in black and white, just need to look.

Isn’t the real problem you assumed you could transfer without causing problems with guild related items. In most MMO’s when you transfer to another server you lose everything. Including your guild. GW2 is somewhat freer when it comes to transferring, but it still uses the same server structure as most other MMO’s. So shouldn’t you have assumed there would be consequences rather than not.

Some people are jumping the fence and assuming this is a case of “why didn’t you research it!?!” and instead it’s a case of “why didn’t I get a popup?”

Simple.

You get it when you are in overflow.
You get it, continuously, when breaking gear down above a specific quality level.
You get it when you’re about to drop something out of your inventory and will in turn delete it.

Basically, this is an issue of functionality. If this were deleting your character, you’d probably be a little annoyed there wasn’t a safeguard in place to stop you from even accidentally doing it.

Agreed. He’s not lost anything. Will guesting get his stuff back without having to pay? I have no idea. I don’t know the limitations of guesting, not until we get it and tinker with it will we officially know what’s doable and what’s not.

However, that doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be some sort of buffer to say where you stand if you make that action. I think in the long run it saves people getting angry because there wasn’t enough info. If they give you all the information you need, head on, without having to find a guide, or faq, then people haven’t got a leg to stand on, but if they’re given vague information, having to go out of the way to find that, then people will kick up a fuss.

Again, the point isn’t whether he lost it or not. It’s about pointing out there’s steps missing that people could, like himself, fall into.

So clearly i need to research every inane thing about this game prior to doing it because if i do not know every concept PRIOR to attempting it, it is my complete fault for not taking loads of time to go read every aspect of the game not matter how insignificant or important that might be.

Clearly asking for a simple pop-up telling a player that any items/influence in your guild, even if i am 1 out of 400+ members, is too hard for people to understand this.

I am quite aware in less than 7 days i can hop back over to my old server and get everything back, i just do not understand why there is not a notification for guild leaders ?

Guess it my bad for not taking hours upon hours to read about every little detail about this game prior to doing something in it.

Again, no offense but if you take the research aspect out then you’re still left with common sense, which tells you that you’re transfering a character…not a guild. What if there were 100 members of that guild? Would they have lost their guild without any notice simply because the leader decided to transfer their character to another server? That wouldn’t make sense.

I have nothing against adding in a popup but at what point do we start thinking for ourselves again? We shouldn’t blame or expect others (not saying that you are) for not holding our hand every step of the way. Having said that, I fully agree that having a popup would save players and Anet more hassle than simply not having one as is currently the case.

Also, I’m not sure if this would work but could you maybe ask someone from your old server to join your guild and send you the items? I know that’s not much in the way of good advice and it wouldn’t help at all with the influence / upgrades but that’s all that I can think of. Sorry.

Some people are jumping off cliffs and assuming this is a case of “why didn’t you research it!?!” and instead it’s a case of “why didn’t I get a popup?”

Simple.

I want a warning when I move my character forwards or backwards! Too many times I accidentally move and fall right off a cliff!

You get it, continuously, when breaking gear down above a specific quality level.
You get it when you’re about to drop something out of your inventory and will in turn delete it.

Basically, this is an issue of functionality. If this were some kind of dreamland, you’d probably be a little annoyed there wasn’t a safeguard in place to stop you from even accidentally moving and falling off a cliff.

Are you sure you want to go the slippery slope hyperbole route with this? This is no different than not checking your directions and blame then the map when you get lost.

What need to be remedied is the fact people can use a 1 person guild to store item.

There should be a minimum activety or influence requirement to keep a guild operational.

And I’m pretty sure if you are in a 400 guild, “some one” knows that the guild item isn’t transfered. Most of the time there are plenty of guildie server hopping just for map completion. So it is quite impossible for a large guild wanting to transfer server and no one knows the guild itself can’t transfer to another server.

What’s wrong with using a personal guild for storage? You earn the rep, you earn the upgrades. You’ve earn the guild stash. It’s not like it’s just being handed to you.

Again: The point is to keep guilds from server hopping on a whim to try and get better WvW conditions, as many guilds have done.

And I can’t say I disagree with it, knowing that. I don’t like it and it was a surprising decision to me when I first found out, but I can’t blame them for trying to limit people’s ability to build up influence freely in one server, then hop onto another server and significantly alter their WvW prospects.

Remember when our developers talked about “strengthening the core game”?
How’d that work out for us so far?
Now let’s try some ideas that will really work.

Well, i have the same issue when me and my guildmates transfered away from a deserted server. Luckily we still have members that stayed behind so they can help sending the stuff over by mail. I don’t blame them but infact, a nice warning will be good enough.

“Please beware that guild influences and upgrades are not transferable, do you still wish to transfer? yes / no”

As above will be enough. People who don’t familiar with the transfer policy will stop a moment and do some research.
