Q:

I click the “Create” button. I choose a race. I click on a class. I stop there.

Depending on the class I have chosen, and sometimes the race (though usually not) a special kind of armor is shown on the left side of the screen. It looks pretty cool, but for now, all I’m really interested in are the colors of said armor. Thus we come to my question.

If I were to attempt to replicate the colors of the armors for each race/class combination listed below (all female, if that matters), what dyes would I use, and in what order? (Simply say top, bottom left, and bottom right, for each item to signify dye location in that item. For items that can, and sometimes do, have a varying number of locations for dyes, also signify top and bottom, or only.)

Charr Warrior
Human Guardian
Norn Elementalist
Norn Necromancer
Asura Engineer
Asura Thief
Sylvari Ranger
Sylvari Mesmer

Thank you for your response!

Just play with it yourself and see what you like, thats part of the fun. What you select in creation isnt what you will end with, trust me

I know that. I have so many dyes now… 1 uncommon, two rares, a total of 205 dyes altogether. That’s a lot of potential combinations. But the unanswered question is one that has been bugging me from the beginning.

if you have an extra character slot, it’s unbelievably easy. You keep stopping yourself from knowing. Create that character, get into the game, check the dyes, STORE the armor pieces/weapon in your wardrobe, delete that character, keep researching with your alternates.
Almost all the personality choices have special armor pieces, grab those when you’re researching your colors.

I think the OP means the endgame armor you see in creation, not the limited starter dye set base stuff you get once you are made.

I’ve never tried to duplicate any of those, as I like my own colors better (though human female warrior has some gold hues I covet). You’re asking someone to do a significant time-using project here … you should at least screen shot the ones you want so people can suggest possible dyes, then you can go in game and preview those armors from the wardrobe and preview the dyes from the TP to see what’s close. Thus you’d do most of the legwork, merely asking others to help narrow down the dye list to check.

@Donari: I’ve tried taking screenshots, but somehow the colors don’t come through properly, the whole picture is 10% darker than the original was. However, if you want screenshots, I have no problem giving you some… assuming I can figure out how to post them on here! Hehe.

I saved a character slot so I could make videos before onetruemedia closes its door regarding different potential looks. Here’s my most recent one (not potentials, but the ones I actually created in this one): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PK2RVFReCHk&feature=youtube_gdata. You’ll notice, both in the pictures used in the video and the ones posted above, that they’re darker than they’d appear on the actual client.

Posting them here is actually very simple! Click the “more posting and formatting options” button below the text input box. You will then get more options below the box, including attaching an image. Hit the browse button, select the image from your own files. To post multiple images you then hit Preview rather than Reply. You’ll get the options again, and can browse for a second file. Rinse and repeat until they are all up.

The advantage is that thread readers can easily open those images without having to load all the framing and advertising one gets with PhotoBucket, TinyURL, etc. If you do that, I’ll take a shot at guesstimating some dyes for you. It might take some time since I have to do that silly work thing Mon-Fri and my evenings then are for relaxing, RP, PVE etc

You know that difference may be due to the color space used when the image is saved.

Color space? What does that mean, exactly? I’m using the full version of FRAPS, if that helps at all.

Oh, and when you go to your class trainer that also happens to be the same race as you, they’re wearing the same armor set as in character select. Different races have different armors just as different classes do.

I tracked down the personal trainers for these characters, and did my best to match the colors (when I couldn’t even come close, such as for the guardian -I don’t have bright white-, I picked the close colors I did have, and made other selections that looked good with it/them). The final picture, if you’ll notice is the same Asura a second time – because I decided a totally different color scheme altogether, at least for now.

There are two color spaces that images are usually saved as. AdobeRGB & sRGB. I do not entirely understand them, but they will affect how an image looks when it is displayed.
