This class is so much fun! I just can’t die in open world, thx to clones and stealth. I have never played a class with such a superior survivabiltiy.
And i have been told that Mesmer’s survivability is very poor in pve and open world! I really don’t get it. Maybe that’s the case for Sw Power Mesmers only, if you need to stay in melee range, i don’t know but the condi one is immortal. You can just spam clones and phantasms 24/7 (they take your agrro) and never get hit by a single foe: Dodge = clone, Scepter AA chain = clone and so on. Your clone has died to a single hit by elite monster? No problem, just a second, there is another one on the way
I really wanna know why people believe that Necros, Rangers and Warriors are more noob friendly professions for soloing open world?

Almost everyone when they talk about PvE survivability are talking about berserker stats.

A lot of people forget about the fact that berserker is only one of many ways to build and play, and not the be all and end all of PvE content

Resident smug Englishman on the NA servers, just because.

No class should die in open world pve, unless you’re fighting bosses or doing hot events. I don’t remember the last time my core thief died in pve open world.

Fat Disgrace (banned) Man Flu Survivor – war/The Cabbage -Thief (gunners hold / [TaG])

gw1 – healing signet/frenzy/charge

Because mesmers are too convoluted, like every skill has double or triple effects. And they’re very weak at low levels, while other classes do exactly what expected of them.

And i just don’t enjoy playing an evil pink fairy that screws with other people minds.

You can’t avoid all hits, not from range attackers. However, just yesterday, I beat the champion giant in the Straits of Devastation, almost entirely by myself, using Scepter + Torch/Staff condi, despite all the hits from the slugs’ poison spits. So, yes, the condi mesmer can win practically every fight, even if it is rather slow.

Dont let it get you down OP. If you keep working at it, keep trying, dont give up, you will eventually overcome this problem. Keep practicing and one day you will be able to die in the open world on your mesmer just as much as you can on any other class.

Have you tried jumping off of cliffs? Clones and such cant really protect you from falling damage. Just remember to not open your glider and you are sure to die.

Weird things forum posters will complain about these days…

Because they have much more passive defenses, while mesmer is full of active defenses. With necro you can pop shroud and enjoy 50% dmg reduction while having access to strong skills. Ranger’s pet can take the aggro and actually eat damage unlike our illusions. Warrior just has a stupid amount of passive defenses.

Mesmers defense is all active, so if you don’t work at it, you will die. You have to manually summon illusions to take aggro, and keep resummoning them. You have to use your teleports and BF to mitigate damage, stun the enemy to interrupt an attack etc… Its all active, and when played well it makes you unkillable. When played poorly, it makes you die a lot
