One of my biggest drags about GW2 right now? Conditions.
Okay, so that was a bit melodramatic. =P
Whether it’s WvW, PvP, or PvE, using a cooldown skill to ditch a condition (or a half-dozen conditions) feels like a waste half the time, because some mob or its friend is going to slap you with the exact same status or a host of different ones.
One the one hand, this means that being able to dodge at the right time, position, etc. is highly important. On the other, it’s terribly annoying when you get buried under the same debilitating statuses.
What I would suggest is a brief (maybe even just 1 second, one precious second) immunity to conditions after you clear them.
Because, and I’ll be honest, I want to actually be able to control my character while I’m playing. ANet’s enemy design seems ridiculously focused on enemies piling on CC (Aetherblades being the most atrocious offenders), and the AI does so with no reservation, which leads to mass stuns (from WvW hammer warriors, which I play :P) or Zojja’s Blind Bomb Barrage in Twilight Arbor (I think).
So, I pose the discussion to the community for pros, cons, and tips for implementation.
Stability. There’s your CC immunity.
I don’t have an issue with condition damage. In fact, I think it’s a rather important component in the combat. Conditions have been around since pen and paper roleplaying games (sleep, slow, hold person, etc.).
Elementalist Earth Trait line – Diamond Skin – Immunity to conditions while your health is above 90%
This has merit. Condition spamming at the moment is very prevalent.
CC has a counter, stability.
Condition spamming does not.
Yeah in all honesty I do have to agree.
Conditions, especially ones that stack a lot, are somewhat problematic.
The game basically expects you to have condition removal in your utilities – but it also expects you to have breakstun/stability. The idea of having customisable utilities becomes redundant when you’re forced to fill two of the three slots with specific skills.
Yes, the issue currently is that conditions are extremely powerful and op in PvP/WvW while extremely underpowered using them against AI in PvE. I’d rather have them toned down and fixed in PvP to make it more competitive instead of noob friendly/skill less, and have PvE just focused on DPS. PvE doesn’t “need” conditions to win, all it would do is give them another option while in PvP condition soecs are basically needed to win and is brainless spam aoe.
The problem with saying that PvE doesn’t need conditions is that it discounts a lot of things that are already in game. PvE needs conditions to be more viable otherwise there are a lot of traits, weapons and armour that just may as well not be in game.
Yeah condis are a big issue, i think that if they could add something to condi removal skills to do something like that for 1 seconds, would be nice. However i thnk if they added more boons to the game to help with condis. There are boons that deal with protection against straight up damage and immunity to certain attacks mostly caused by direct damage, but it seems the only boon to help with conditions, is regeneration which doesnt heal enough even when you are traited for it, if the enemy is destroying you with condis it means they have more than 1 so they probably have poison too. I like your idea but i think boons would be a better way to solve it.
Stability. There’s your CC immunity.
Stability does not clear imobilize or fear if i remember correctly. Stacking that up with other conditions makes it almost impossible to clear. Im down for a 1.5 or 2 sec imunity after cleansing conditions, however it might be smarter to limit it to certain ones such as imobilize, chill and fear. That way you are not nerfing the conditions that damage but reducing the perma lock down that plagues big WvW group play.
Stability does clear fear (or at least on my ele it does).
But yeah, immobilize can be nasty.
