Maybe block them? Blocking a follower removes them from your follower list and adds them to your block list. (Then don’t look at the block list if you don’t want to see them).

You say you don’t want to block but they remind you of bad memories and you probably will never speak to them anyway, so might as well block if you really want them off your follower list so you can’t see them.

Problem is, this removes them from my Followers list, into my Block list.
So it’s not fixing the problem, it’s just moving them…

I hate having people on my block list + I’m just such a noob that always looks on it

Ok, I feel like the kitten; but this is like a learn to play issue… But it’s learn to ignore.
Either block them and quit reading your block list or quit looking at your followers.

How exactly is ANet supposed to remove them from your sight? They are not going set up a way to go into someone else’s account to remove names from a friend’s list. The only other option I can see is the ability to make the name invisible, even though it’s still there. Truthfully, I doubt they are going to spend the time setting this up. There isn’t a crowd of people clamoring for it and you do have the option to take them off your follower list by blocking them.

I know that feeling, it’s why I can’t go back to FF14 and wow, because Satan plays them and I really don’t wish to be reminded of Satan.

I still don’t understand why the contact list works that way, is so awkward and uneasy to have, for example, unwanted contacts following you (sure you can report stalkers and block stuff but really.. ) for example people who blocked you first can whisp you back (you need to block them too so they can’t keep whisping you), if they block you they can tell where you are or what are you doing through the contact list.. there was even a case in wvw where people block you (that is blocking someone from another server) exclusively to know your acc name and harass you… it’s just dreadful

Thank you for posting this now I know not to every add you as friend. In fact I will Block you.

I don’t know would this help your issue. If you don’t want to see player’s display name in your follower list, you can give nicknames to them.

1) Go to the followers list
2) Right click player name
3) Choose “Set Nickname”
4) Give a nickname

If you don’t want to see their character’s name, this is not working. It works only for display names.

Very simple, I can delete them from my friends list.

Might depend.

You can delete on your friend’s list because that’s on your account. The followers is showing what’s on their list on their account. So to really delete, you would need the ability to modify a list that is on someone else’s account. I very much doubt that will ever happen.

I suspect the best they can do is to toggle the names invisible. That is, the names will still be there but you can black them out.

Just got a reply from Arenanet and they’re unable to do anything for me, the only way to get them off my followers list is for them to remove me.
