Confirmed: Horses exists!
It’s a anorexic dolyak. Poor thing is not being fed right by that “samurai”.
It’s “confirmed, children exist” from factions all over again.
Yes. Horses exist. Cats exist. Ocean Dwelling demontype lanternfish exist. Some things can just be assumed. This does not mean you get mounts. Or at least, I hope so.

Bah, mounts. I don’t care.

Of course horses exist…

Well, I already pal around with a giant meatwall made of undead flesh, so it’s not that offputting to me. I can think of lots of reasons to have an undead horse instead of a live one: they eat less; they don’t get cold; they’re less likely to be stubborn over patches of clover; and they’re a great source of “beating a dead horse” jokes.*
*Please do not actually beat your undead horse. Like all animals, they require understanding, patience, and loving care. Exaggerated flailing motions outside of the horse’s field of vision should be sufficient to get your point across.
Okay am I the only one who read the title as ‘Confirmed: Horse Sexists!’?
Doesn’t it say a new riding broom will be available? Didn’t we already have a riding broom for Halloween? Maybe it’s a revamped one that can actually fly at high altitudes and over things.

Nope, it’s a riding broom we know and love. No flight in this game because, like vanilla WoW, the terrain is not designed for it.
However, the riding broom is a cosmetic mount for all intents and purposes. They should add more of that sort of stuff for flavor. Not that you can go faster, just for fun…

im alright with ground mounts (( Waypoints already make the world small)) but they have to be done in a way that fits GW2 ((changing your first five skills and such))

I see this statement a lot on GW2 themed forums and i do not understand it. Is there anything wrong with mounts in mmo games or in GW2 in particular? Do they imbalance gameplay in any way? Is it against lore or for some aesthetic reasons? If anyone could explain it to me I would be grateful.
SO with the new patch coming out, I decided to point out something that will make every mount hater cringe. Areananet supports the idea of mounts, and it is already given in lore, and this is evidence of this concept art: http://sphotos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/150926_10151300660039209_681568240_n.jpg
Should be interesting to see how they work when implemented
I wouldn’t get too excited. Just because it’s in concept art, doesn’t mean it’s going in the game (female Son of Svanir, anyone?). A lot of things in CA are there because they look good, not necessarily foreshadowing mounts, or what have you.

They said from the very beginning that they did not plan on having mounts here.
I cannot remember the details but I remember mentioning that characters as it is are fast enough to move around and explore the map. Not to mention we already have waypoints in the game.

Just because there is a picture of some guy on a horse, doesn’t mean we are getting mounts.
Anet has already stated they are not adding mounts, so don’t get excited or else you’ll be highly disappointed.

Well as they announced we get a “riding broom” and even if it’s “only” the one from halloween event, this technically is something like a mount.^^
Aye, adding mounts to a game designed for non-mount travel just takes time away from balancing/bugfixes/content patches the devs could do otherwise. Good for horses, no can haz mountz.

So you see concept art of a place that doesn’t actually exist in the game with characters that don’t actually exist in the game and think that some how translates to not only does “anet supports the idea of mounts” but they are somehow working them into this non-expansion update?
Here’s the thing…there were npcs with horses in GW1. To this day there are still no mounts in GW1. The precedent for horses in the Guild Wars universe lore isn’t exactly new.
Maybe you’re just being sarcastic and I just missed it? I don’t know.
(edited by fellyn.5083)
That’s just artwork.
Everyone one knows humans brought horses and had them for some time, but then charr ate all horses, and the rest died because… eh…. uh… some made up illness that affects horses in Tyria or something… let’s call it “Tyrian colic”.
So when people say “Centaurs are half man/half horse” it’s as if you said “half dinosaur” on Earth.
GW1 and GW2 both have mounts ALREADY.
But in the GW games, mounts are not something you get to own and use anywhere, and definitely not something you use to run around and to show off. They are something you mount to get a different skill set for a purpose.
War mounts.
For now, there’s only the Siege Golems and the Asuran Power Suit, but that doesn’t mean that sooner or later there won’t be an event in which you can mount a chopper to fight a flying boss within certain limits (getting strong winds and being pushed back if you fly too high or too far) or extremely expensive deployable siege devourers you can use in WvW, moving them from place to place in exchange for supplies as ‘fuel’.
Lol you guys. How many times do I have to say this, the guild wars lore was designed so that things like mounts could be added in with ease that would not damage the lore in anyway. Its the reason why the lore is on a wikipedia where anything can change, ANYTHING!. Also, show me the forum post where arenanet posted this, casue I have been looking into mounts for ages and they always say either “we dont know” or “not at this time”. Also, Im hoping they instead of just one specific feature for mounts(ex, no speed, speed, combat etc) why not have them all??Cosmetic mounts would be easy to buy, speed mounts require a few gold, and combat mounts need gems.
They said from the very beginning that they did not plan on having mounts here.
That is good news. I don’t think the game needs mounts. Nothing takes so much time to get to that a mount would make the game ‘better’.
I could get behind lower WP costs though

Lol, I heard it was centures XD, see what I mean? the lore changes so much it honestly doesnt matter XD(and please for all of our sakes dont bullkitten me)
Title should be “CONFIRMED: Players exist!”
At one point in time I believe we were supposed to be able to get guild operated airships for wv3. Or maybe I misheard that, either way the idea is probably been canned by now.
It would be awesome to get a giant siege devourer in wv3 though, like the one they had in the Eye of the North.
Lol I love how after I said the lore thing, no one is denying what I said XD
Take note: I don’t want mounts in this game … it is all made about wandering around… that just would ruin it…
I gatta say, i think waypoints take away from actaully doing events around the world. With mounts, your given more incentive to actually go from point A to B and find cool stuff along the way with out simply zipping from point A to B XP

I asked for confirmation in the main post if the horse picture means we’re getting mounts but so far no reply.

Why you need an official response? You WON’T Get Mounts in this game. Get over it….
Well, I doubt we get horses as mounts, or they would have been announced I think.

If you look carefully, you can see, that the guy is standing next to the horse but isn´t riding it. The horse got something on its back, what supports the fact, that animal are used to carry things, not to carry people.
Oh
My
Gosh
Please dont tell me youre seriously thinking we will have mounts in the patch? Its art. Its probably an NPC we havent met yet that rides on a horse. I dont think they will be giving the player-base mounts, ever. Mounts lead to reduction in travel expenses. Which means to less money being spent. Which, for a lot of people, means less of a reason to buy gems, which is less profit for Arenanet.
They put waypoints in, because there are no mounts. If they added mounts, why use waypoints.

that’s nearly the same height-difference like in the picture on the artwork. Taking the perspective into consideration it’s not clear this man on the art-work isn’t riding but standing.^^
Actually it’s fun to tease the mount-haters a bit. Who said mounts need to be to save waypoint expenses. They could as well be town-related stuff.^^
@cesmode: If there will be a time when I have to buy gems to cover my waypointcosts I will quit for sure.^^

Lol I love how after I said the lore thing, no one is denying what I said XD
No one is denying it because what you said doesn’t really mean all that much.
Out of all the things that GW2 needs right now mounts are pretty much at the bottom of the list.
Besides that I’m fairly certain anet has flat out said they won’t be adding traditional mounts to the game. It just doesn’t need them, the world is small enough as is.

To be honest.. wanted that the pro-mount people have something more to say and go crazy: P

Or what if, maybe, there were humanoids that were taller than regular humans? For the sake of argument we’ll call them “norn”.
So what if in this hypothetical situation these “norn” would be as tall standing on their feet as a regular human would be sitting on a horse? And also what if the event the artwork is used for is supposed to revolve around these “norn”?
Food for thought.

IM GOING CRAZY RIGHT NOW!!! twitch And no, he’s not standing next to the horse, he’s riding on it! That red is part of his clothing! Also it would look really stuipid if they said “Oh ya we have horses, but becasue we dont wana break the lore we wont ride them!” kitten XD
In all seriouseness, I think mounts would be amazing and non-lore breaking(as the lore was designed to do so) and I think they should have 3 teirs of em to make everyone happy
Teir1: Only cosmetic
Teir2: Speedy
Teir3: Combat
Like I said “it’s not clear” so he can as well be sitting on it, depending on how big the horse is and how big the man is.
It’s really funny that people can’t even stand the slightest hint of a mount not even in a concept-art, which does not mean much to the actual existence of mounts in the game.
This is already known. The mere existence of Necrid Horsemen proves it. Why would anyone want to ride a horrid, necromantic horror is beyond me.
Eh heh… hehe….
Lol Pirlipat, I know right? XD Especially when its right in there face XD Also, the reason why i said anet supports this is becasue they made that image that I linked there FB profile pic!

Yes.
I sincerely hope so at least.
Arenanet right now:
That’s not a horse, that’s a sad Charr.
Hence the long face.

:D
Like I said, I doubt there will be horses as mounts anytime soon, or they would have been announced. But there is this riding broom which I consider to be something to sit on and zip around a bit within the towns. I wouldn’t mind other mounts which are this way.
But they are nothing to get mad about.^^
Could someone give me a good argument as to how landbased mounts would ruin the game? Yes, I love the empasis on exploration. And little encapsulates the sense of exploring new lands as well as doing so on horseback/with your trusty mount. Currently you either waste gold on waypoints (c’mon Anet, not even a 1hr CD hearthstone?), or you waste time running through zones.
Landbased mounts (say, +50% runspeed) would be a welcome addition.
Somewhere in the shadowy recesses of the ANet design studio, a tired concept artist puts the finishing touches on his latest creation. He sighs happily and stretches, his back popping from the hours he has spent hunched over his tablet.
“That’s it, I’m done. I think it looks pretty good. Time to send it over to the web team.”
The attachment is made, the send button pressed with a flourish, and the image zooms through the cybertubes, two cubicles over to the blog updater.
She looks somewhat crazed, as most people who use the internet, inhaling her sixth cup of coffee that morning.
Whats this!?
A notification flashes across her screen – You Have Received Electronic Post
“Goodie.”
Click. Click. Click.
The blinking cursor races across her monitor, pasting the content of the blog into the glaringly white textbox, filling it with promises of hope. For the final touch, she adds in the artwork sent by the concept artist.
“Looks pretty,” she mumbles, “maybe I’ll use it on my desktop.”
As her finger presses down on the mouse, pointer hovering over the update button, she hears a drawn out scream behind her
“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooo”
She swivels around in her chair, but it is too late; the deed has been done.
Update Complete
The fateful words hover on the screen for a few moments before the webpage automatically updates.
“Don’t you know what you’ve done?”
Colin’s face is drawn into a grimace as he looks at the newly posted information.
The blog poster shrugs and turns to the screen.
“D-don’t you see….?”
He points to an equine figure in the drawing, and the eyes of the blogger widen as she lets out a quiet squeak of shock.

MOUNTS CONFIRMED
(edited by interpol.2397)
Instead of adding mounts, I’d rather they just remove the WP cost from LA, and the five racial cities. We can already bypass the cost through HotM.
Edit: Wow Interpol, you have a gift for writing short stories. lol I loved it!
